Exactly my same feeling. I wonder: since the very low traffic of these
lists, was it so hard to keep them alive? Why not ask for a hand before

GIMP directly does _NOT_ convert ANY raw format. It uses darktable or
rawtherapee for this.

absent but the earlier is present, try use it anyway)

for rawtherapee I did not find the camera support list. Try install it

Clearly it's not a mouse problem if it affects only GIMP and not the
entire system. In that case I suggest you to reset (=delete) the user
config data of GIMP here: https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/GIMPProfile/

I can testify that in Italian (and Esperanto) the term GIMP is

dimensions... but mind you! Size proportions will be affected!

GIMP devs did a great deal of rebuild in the last 5 years or so,
therefore they already did what you are suggesting to do here. The devs
was so able to maintain the good old look and feel but really, GIMP
is a new beast now!

As I said above, devs already did what you are suggesting. Guess what?
One of the goals of this overhaul is to enable non-destructive edit in
GIMP!

In my humble opinion you can try the clone tool and than polish it with the 
smear tool
or just wipe out the entire surface of the button with suitable gradient...

I work in a high school in Italy and I can definitely say tha GIMP is
used widely in education under Windows and Mac as it is Free (in the
meaning of like Freedom _and_ Free Beer) where people can't afford or
want to use an alternative raster-graphic program other than Photoshop.

For the sake of honesty, I think you have to check also for Krita:
