Have a look at the bottom right of that image you posted

See the word "Basic"?

Try changing that may or may not fix it

1. Enter your text
2. Layer->Text to Path
3. Edit->Stroke path (you need to set up color etc)
4. Edit->Select by Color
5. Ctrl + x to delete the colour (of your text)

If you right click on the layer in the Layers Dialog, there is an option to
scale it.

If you select the Rotate Tool, you can rotate the layer

Hi Judy,

Start by going to Edit->Preferences->Interface and perhaps reset the
shortcuts in case you have done something obscure with them.

Then go back to Edit->Keyboard shortcuts, and then look at the very left of the
dialog and you will see a "+"

Click on that and see what is there.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to go to 'Edit->Keyboard shortcuts' and
write down the ones you think you will mostly use.

It is fairly straight forward.

1. Open image 1 in gimp
2. Open image 2 in gimp
3. Use one of the selection tools and select the area you wish to copy grom
image 1
4.  Edit->Copy
5.  Switch to image 2
6.  Edit->Paste as new layer

You don't give sufficient information.

What size is your image? What dpi is it?

Again, just guessing,

  Open the image
  Image->Resize and make the dpi say 300
  Select the text tool, click on the image and say set the font size to 150
  Type away

Then look at the image, is it still pixelated?

Or post an xcf with the problem somewhere so others can look at it

What is ypur initioal color?

What color is the background?

Do you try to change to color with the selector in the Text dialog? That wont
work, you need to highlight the (invisible) text to change color.

Using a 2.7GHz AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ the startup time
is less than 3 seconds with 2.8.10 (Linux Mint 17.1)

Git edff1d0 also started in about 3 seconds on the second start. Wasn't
counting for the first start, but sure it was more than 3 secs.

Fast enough for me !!

You dont say how wide the strip is.

If a very narrow strip, line width say, it may be appropriate to use the clone
tool and clone the adjacent area

If it is a wide strip, you may wish to use the rectangle select tool.

 a. Select say the left hand area, note the size of the rectangle fo later
 b. Copy (ctrl+c) and paste as a new layer
 c. Now select the right hand area, copy and paste as another new layer

Use your layers dialog to join the two layers

Perhaps use the smudge tool to even out the discontinuity of the join

Install a C compiler, you probably need GCC, C++, do a yum search on those
items.

Once you get those installed, rerun configure, and read carefully the next
failure and install that as well, probably be autotools

Re: [Gimp-user] Size of output files

2015-02-27 Thread Owen Cook
I think you are doing it all wrong.

To answer your last question first, you will probably find the dpi has gone
from 300 to 72 dpi (or of that order)

Secondly, I don't quite understand what was done. Was the whole score saved as
a multipage pdf, if so, can you break it up with pdftk or pdfseparate, get the
individual sheets?

You might be able to use pdfimages to extract the embedded image and work on
that.

If you want to convert it back to one pdf, use imagemagicks convert and its
million options

Re: [Gimp-user] program crashes

2015-01-11 Thread Owen Cook
I don't use Windows, but this seems to be an eternal problem.

So I set about going through the motions of downloading a windows version

   Start at http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

   Then "Show other downloads"

   Then "Windows"

Comment: This assumes that if a Windows version is not in the main listing, it
must be in "Other downloads"
I do not believe this to be user friendly to Windows users, particularly as
they probably make up 80% of users?

But then having got to the Windows section, the first line reads;

   The Windows installer packages by Jernej Simončič are distributed from the
   GIMP HTTP server (download.gimp.org) and its mirror servers

Comment: Clicking on download.gimp.org presents a directory listing.
I could imagine Windows users rolling over to die at this point! But continuing
it then offers first a torrent

   Download GIMP 2.8.14 <<---Link to torrent
   If the torrent download doesn't work, you can also follow this link<<--link
to exe file.

It's no wonder users attempting to download gimp end up with infected programs
which are probably easier to access from a Google search.

So that's my rant, my suggestion to the keeper of the download page is to put
the Windows version at the top;

   GIMP for Windows
Torrent link
program link

Re: [Gimp-user] Question about golden-spiral-0.0.py script

2014-11-17 Thread Owen Cook
I don't know about OSX, but the python script needs python support, you have
python installed?

In the unix world, the script needs to be executable, is this the case for you?

Python scripts go in the users plug-ins subdirectory, not in scripts
