Win 7 GIMP 2.8.4 32bit

Not a keystroke I ever remember using but just checked and here the 
+zoom keys (1-5) work, but not the -zoom. (i.e. the SHIFT+number)

Shift-2 is the @ sign for me, but it depends on your keyboard.
Here zooming is on the + key, shift-equals for me.

Check edit-keyboard sortcuts for what it should do.
