[Gluster-users] Weekly Community Meeting - 20170104

2017-01-02 Thread Kaushal M
Happy New Year everyone!

This is a reminder for the resumption of the weekly community meeting
after nearly a month of not being held. I hope everyone enjoyed their
holidays, and are now ready to get this restarted.

The meeting agenda and updates document is at [1] as always. I expect
there are a lot of updates to add after this long break, so make sure
to add your updates and topics to this before the meeting starts.

The meeting will start, as always, at 1200UTC in #gluster-meeting on Freenode.

See you all tomorrow!

~kaushal

Re: [Gluster-users] gluster volume permissions denied

2017-01-02 Thread vincent gromakowski
Did someone already get this issue ? Can it be kernel related ? I am using
a Centos 7.2 image from my cloud provider, could it be a low level
configuration that is missing ?

 Hi all,
I am currently setting a gluster volume on 4 Centos 7.2 nodes.
Everything seems to be OK from the volume creation to the fuse mounting but
after that I can't access data (read or write) without a sudo even if I set
 777 permissions.
I have checked that permissions on underlying FS (an XFS volume) are OK
so I assume the problem is in Gluster but I can't find where.
I am using ansible to deploy gluster, create volumes and mount fuse
 endpoint.
 Please find below some information:

The line in /etc/fstab for mounting the raw device

The line in /etc/fstab for mounting the fuse endpoint
 *bd-reactive-worker-2:/reactive_small /srv/data/small glusterfs

I'm not sure we have settled on who is _maintaining_ 3.9. Pranith and Aravinda
made the initial release, but that might be the end of their involvement. Or
not. Either way you can just send an email to gluster-users or gluster-dev
saying 3.9 looks good and whoever it is will get the message.

GlusterFS 3.9 is a Short Term Maintenance release. I wouldn't expect Red Hat QE
to be using it in their "day job" testing. STM releases are meant to get new
features into the hands of community users early.

The packages in the CentOS Storage SIG are _upstream_ packages provided by and
for the GlusterFS community, just like the packages that are provided by the
community in Fedora, Ubuntu Launchpad, the SuSE Build System, and on
download.gluster.org.

FWIW, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, and SuSE have their own processes for managing
the packages they provide – the GlusterFS community packages are independent of
those processes. Independent of all that, Niels does ask for a thumbs up from
someone in the community before he promotes packages in the CentOS Storage SIG.
(Although I personally think Niels could promote them after a couple weeks even
if nobody gives a thumbs up; as can be done with packages in Fedora.)

The GlusterFS community should not expect Red Hat QE to give the thumbs up that
Niels is looking for; it's really intended, and expected, to come from one or
more community users.

HTH.

Thanks Niels. I'm not sure about who is the 3.9 maintainer but I have
personally verified the basic things like volume creation in 3.9 and it works.
May me I will I include Kasturi, Sas to give their feedback on gluster 3.9.

Kasturi, Sas: Are you using gluster 3.9 in your testing?. If not, can you
include it in some tests and share your feedback with Niels?.

Yes, thats correct. There is no web interface for giving karma to
packages like there is for Fedora. It is best to inform the 3.9 release
maintainers on one of the lists and put me in CC. Once someone other
than me checked the packages and is happy with them, I can mark them for
signing and releasing by the CentOS release engineering team.
