[Gluster-users] A short farewell to the Gluster community

2014-12-09 Thread Dave McAllister

Good day.

After a lengthy period of consideration, i have decided to move on from
Red Hat, and as such, step down from the board as well as out of the
community lead role.

GlusterFS is a vibrant technology. It has the ability to change the
nature of globalized file systems, and to help deliver the every
increasing needs for files and storage in a cloud driven, IoT world. And
it needs a community lead to be deeper technology-wise, while retaining
a the ability to lead a community to deliver ever better, ever more
stable releases.

The community team building ever better versions of GlusterFS have been
outstanding.

So while I am leaving for a new adventure, rest assured that it will
have open sources roots somewhere, I know I'm leaving GlusterFS ready
for its next steps.

We will be determining who will be stepping into the board seat held by
Red Hat and working on enhancing the overall community.

Over the next few months, we will be searching for the right person to
take over the new and revitalized Gluster community lead role.

[Gluster-users] Call for proposals: LSF/MM conference

2014-11-24 Thread Dave McAllister

The annual Linux Storage, Filesystem and Memory Management Summit for
2015 will be held on March 9th and 10th before the Linux Foundation Vault
conference at the Revere Hotel, Boston MA. For those that do not know,
Vault is designed to be an event where open source storage and filesystem
practitioners meet storage implementors and, as such, it would be of
benefit for LSF/MM attendees to go to at least the first day of Vault.

http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/linux-storage-filesystem-and-mm-summit

http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/vault

On behalf of the committee I am issuing a call for agenda proposals that
are suitable for cross-track discussion as well as technical subjects for
the breakout sessions.

1) Proposals for agenda topics should be sent before January 16th, 2015 to:

lsf...@lists.linux-foundation.org

and cc the Linux list or lists that are most interested in it:

ATA: linux-...@vger.kernel.org
FS: linux-fsde...@vger.kernel.org
MM: linux...@kvack.org
SCSI: linux-s...@vger.kernel.org

If advance notice is required for visa applications then please send
proposals before January 1st. The committee will complete the first round
of selections near that date to accommodate applications.

Please tag your proposal with [LSF/MM TOPIC] to make it easier to track.
Agenda topics and attendees will be selected by the program committee,
but the final agenda will be formed by consensus of the attendees on the
day.

We will try to cap attendance at around 25-30 per track to facilitate
discussions although the final numbers will depend on the room sizes at
the venue.

2) Requests to attend the summit should be sent to:

lsf...@lists.linux-foundation.org

Please summarise what expertise you will bring to the meeting, and what
you would like to discuss. Please also tag your email with [LSF/MM ATTEND]
so there is less chance of it getting lost.

Presentations are allowed to guide discussion, but are strongly
discouraged. There will be no recording or audio bridge. However, we expect
that written minutes will be published as we did in previous years

2012:

3) If you have feedback on last year's meeting that we can use to
improve this year's, please also send that to:

lsf...@lists.linux-foundation.org

4) We would like to remind those that are are also interested in presenting
at the Vault conference that the CFP deadline for Vault is December
1st.

[Gluster-users] Upcoming conference on Linux filesystems and storage

2014-10-29 Thread Dave McAllister
It would be great if we could get some significant talks submitted for
the Vault conference, http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/vault
http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/vault. This is March 11-12,
2015 in Boston MA, USA.

Gluster has a strong record of technological innovation, and with the
new work coming up, it would be a great place to discuss and hear more
ideas for some of our new directions.

If you submit a talk, drop me a note to let me know, please

[Gluster-users] 2014 GlusterFS use survey is open

2014-10-23 Thread Dave McAllister
As we roll towards the release of GlusterFS 3.6.0, it seemed a good time
to find out what and how you are using GlusterFS.

To that end, we’ve got a short poll up
at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/gluster2014
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/gluster2014, which should be pretty
quick for you to take.

This is completely anonymous, unless you choose to opt in to allow
follow up. We will not be using any contact information for any purposes
other than a possible follow up.

When we finalize the information, I’ll share the findings with you in a
future posting.

And our thanks.
