[Gluster-users] performance / IOP

2014-06-20 Thread Uwe Kastens
Hi there,

Are there any documents available which allows to get an idea about
performance and IOPs?

If I understand the concept correctly a brick could be a harddisk or a
subset of a RAID. So if would simply mirror two bricks on two servers the
limiting factor would be the NIC between?

Maybe someone could give a starting point.

[Gluster-users] scrub as in zfs

2011-08-08 Thread Uwe Kastens
Hi again,

If one thinks about a large amount of data, maybe as a replacement for tapes.
Will auto heal of gluster help with data corruption problems? I would expect
that, but only, if the files are accessed on a regular basis.

As far as I have seen, there is no regular scrub mechanism like in zfs?

[Gluster-users] gluster usable as open source solution

2011-08-04 Thread Uwe Kastens
Hi,

I looked at gluster over the past year. It looks nice but the commercial
option is not so interesting, since it is not possible to evaluate a storage
solution within 30 days. More than one any other storage platform its a
matter of trust, if the scaling is working.

So my questions to this mailinglist are:
- Anybody using the open source edition in a bigger production environment?
How is the expierence over a longer time?
- Since gluster seems only to offer support within the enterprise version.
Anybody out there how is supporting the open source edition?

[Gluster-users] setup trouble without DNS

2010-11-15 Thread Uwe Kastens
Hello,

I tried to setup an testing environment inside a VMWare Workstation with 3
ubuntu 10.10 server.

I can add the probes by hostname, which is configured in /etc/hosts

r...@ubuntu01:~# gluster peer statusNumber of Peers: 2

Hostname: ubuntu02
Uuid: b2dc0e78-f91a-4fa2-9faa-ce7d81a281fe
State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)

Hostname: ubuntu03
Uuid: f127902d-7f46-4438-bfeb-5ce25821ab15
State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)

r...@ubuntu01:~# gluster volume create store ubuntu02:/var/store
ubuntu03:/var/store
Creation of volume store has been unsuccessful

But working with the IP Adresses is working
r...@ubuntu01:~# gluster volume create store 172.16.101.202:/var/store
172.16.101.203:/var/store
Creation of volume store has been successful
