Ray Noorda, the father of computer networking who funneled much of his
fortune into launching dozens of Utah technology companies, died Monday
at age 82.

Noorda, who had reportedly suffered from Alzheimer's disease and heart
disease over at least the past two years, died at his Orem home surrounded
by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lewena; his sister, Edna Hill,
four sons, John, Alan, Andy, and Brent; and numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending for Noorda, a lifelong member of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I was. I noted his passing here:

His shows had a great influence on me as a child.

Go into Settings->Configure Kmail->Accounts. Under the Receiving
tab, select the account then the "Modify" button. On the "General"
tab, there is a box "Filter messages if they are greater than". Make
sure it is unchecked.

If it was checked, that may be the source of the problem. I seem to
remember that it occasionally gets the wrong file size or adds all the
files together or something.

No guarantees. Just a suggestion.

Are you up against the Kmail size limit for individual files?

Actually I think Subaru is the official vehicle of New Hampshire.

Banana Republic was really about safari style, not yuppies).

I'll wear it to the next Hosstraders, we should get a photo of all us

Kmail weirdness

2006-10-09 Thread Kjel Anderson
Hey everyone,I am having a weird problem with Kmail. When it connects to my pop server, it sees the mail, but thinks that it has 0 size. It doesn't do this for every message, it seems like it happens a few times a day. I tried Thunderbird email, and it does not exhibit this problem. The mail server is at Pair networks, and they are scratching their heads as well. Any tips on how to start debugging this would be apprecitated.
Thanks,Kjel

Well, another Hosstraders is behind us, and we survived.

We didn't get there until late, but it was glad to be able to chat
with Mike and Heather for a short bit at least. I was amused that Ted

Maybe someday I'll get to a non-Hosstraders GNHLUG meeting ;-)

(Note for Mike -- it may be that 256 v 384 is key for Ubuntu, as it
really doesn't seem to like our smaller Lifebook. Xubuntu didn't
either, though, which bothers me. Puppy seems to run as Root, and
DSL's mutant mixed Woody-kernel, Sarge-apps Debian seems like it would
be a nightmare to keep up on patches with, so I'm not sure what to
do.)

SLUG meeting tonight at 7pm in Morse Hall rm 301 Durham, NH

2006-10-09 Thread Robert E. Anderson
What is This Lojban Thing?

  October 9, 2006 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
UNH Morse Hall conference room 301

What if the language we speak affects how we think? If that's
true, what if we spoke a language that had a basis in logic?
Would it lead to more logical thought? "Lojban", a language based
on predicate logic with an unambiguous grammar, is the second
generation of a language conceived to answer those questions.

This presentation will start with a basic introduction to the Lojban
language (http://www.lojban.org)*, covering** the language's grammar,
semantics, history, and its relation to the predicate calculus.

Because the Lojban language is grammatically unambiguous, it is
ideally suited to interaction with computers. Linux software related
to Lojban will be demonstrated, including a Lojban grammar parser,
Lojban speech synthesizers, a Lojban-English translator, Lojban
computer games, and various Lojban media such as music, poems, and
podcasts in the Lojban language.

This presentation is free (as in free beer) and open to the public.

(* An independent presentation, this talk is neither an official
function of, nor endorsed by the Logical Language Group, Inc.)
(** Content subject to change without notice. Always consult your
doctor before learning a new language. May cause headache, dizziness,
and increased intelligence. Not to be combined with any other offer.)
