Re: OT: Shopping cart recommendations wanted

2003-08-26 Thread david uhlman
Without a doubt if you have access to PHP then OsCommerce is the most
complete offering out there. It talks to all the major gateways like
Authorize.net and so on. It has lots of features like an affiliates
programs, image resizing, inventory control ...

We do a lot of OsCommerce hosting, and customizing so I know the system
inside and out. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. We also
have a new setup thats an integrated Postnuke and OsCommerce system. I
can get you the code if you want the beta version as the patches are
winding there way up stream and may or may not be accepted into the main
trees.

Some people have had a difficult time working with the OsCommerce
developers but with patience and a steady typing hand you can usually
work it out.

MivaMerchant is alright but it has any annoying limitations which you
can't do anything about. OsCommerce is GPL so change are very easy, plus
the code isn't spaghetti and its slowly becoming more modular and OO.

Check out Miva Merchant. I used it on an ecommerce site for a few years
and was very happy with it. It is sort of a PHP-ish concept, using
something called Mivascript, which I believe predates PHP.

It's very extensible, if you take the time to learn it's interface.
And, as I recall, it was very affordable as well, with a decent
 developer community.
