 It is coming, stay tuned.

I had wanted to have it rolling already, but life got in the way for a
minute.

Trade you lathe time for mill time! 12" swing lathe here, some other
helpful stuff such as metal-cutting bandsaw, big hammers, acetylene rig.
Electronics (analog, heh) too.

Any time. Happy to help out anyone with hacking non-virtual reality...

For the record, this sounds like what a lot of Make Magazine
(http://makezine.com/) is about, based on my discussions with people at
the magazine. Somewhat Linux oriented, but mostly just a "hack" type
magazine, in the old sense of the word. Not all hardware: some software
stuff - but in general, a very "do it yourself" friendly magazine, it
seems.

Cool idea. I have a couple such projects in various stages of brew on
my workbench. Interestingly enough, there's all linux-based (hadn't
thought of it in quite those terms before). Things like home
automation, music, video, etc, all have strong linux-controlled
presence, so it might make sense to set it up as the TINKERSIG of
GNHLUG or whathaveyou.

I can setup a list on the DLSLUG machine like I did for the python guys
pretty easily if it would help.

I hear the FIRST kids are using Windows, so there might be some
opportunity for moral education there too.

I like doing this stuff when I have time, and I agree that a second list,
in this case, would be worthwhile, although projects done with Free and Open
Source might get a "progress announcement" every once in a while to alert people
in this list that "something cool" is happening.

So why not announce the meeting either here or on the announcement list,
and you can have the detailed discussions some other place?

I too like to putz around with stuff computer, electrical and
non-electrical. I might not be able to make every meeting but I would
like to included in this, I currently live in Merrimack, but a move is
in the works not far just near Concord NH.

Subject: Desire for a new kind of list?

Many of the people that came to claim the "free crap" from my house over
the last couple of weeks also expressed interest in my Home Automation
setup, as well as various electronics projects, product ideas,
distributed music/video, and other odd bits of tinkering and ideas.
I've heard a couple of good business plans from folks that are either in
active development or early stages of implementation as well.

I was thinking of setting up a list that would not be just about linux,
or robots, but more of a collective local group that just "builds
stuff". The meetings (monthly?) would/could take place at my house
(amherst, NH) or anyone else would be welcome to host. The intent being
to show off projects in the works and/or solicit opinions and ideas for
improvements and such.

I offer up my place because it is somewhat spacious *and* I have a fair
amount of electronics tools and components as well as a decent enough
workshop (no metal mills or lathes yet, but I am looking to purchase a
smallish (3HP) vertical mill soon). The idea being things could go from
brainstorm to proof-of-concept all in one meeting. This would be a
variation of the usual meetings where it seems that everyone meets,
talks, and then goes off on their own without much tangible evidence
ever being created. Think of it like "Install fest" meets "Monster
Garage".

I think that with the collective knowledge and skills we have in the
Nashua area (that "area" spanning Concord NH to Boston MA and beyond)
that we should be able to get a group of "do-ers" together and maybe
actually produce something cool in the process.

So, any takers?
