libgnomekbd 3.5.90
Just a formal beta release, with updated translations. Available here: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/libgnomekbd/3.5/ The library is practically useless these days, going to be killed in 3.8 - kept in 3.6 just for a small keyboard layout widget. xkeyboard-config 2.3
After some mess related to GNOME3 release, I am proud to present the scheduled release of xkeyboard-config. A number of bugs were closed. Troubled descriptions that went to 2.2, polished seriously. Thanks to TP, a number of translations were seriously updated. This release is recommended to use over 2.2 and 2.2.1. For people still using gnome2 (or Ubuntu, up to 11.04) it is visually more pleasant to stick to 2.1. http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.3.tar.bz2 http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.3.tar.gz The tag in git is xkeyboard-config-2.3 Bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xkeyboard-config Get it while its hot! xkeyboard-config 2.2.1
Just a couple of days after 2.2. Since X.org was very kind to release libx11 1.4.3 (which is required for xkeyboard-config 2.2), that exposed one serious issue in the build process of xkeyboard-config So, here is 2.2.1 - just a build fix. This release is highly recommended (realistically - required) for GNOME3. http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.2.1.tar.bz2 http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.2.1.tar.gz The tag in git is xkeyboard-config-2.2.1 Bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xkeyboard-config Sorry for the hassle Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
libgnomekbd 3.0.0
Hi all The first stable 3.x release of libgnomekbd is available. The only difference from the last beta is a number of updated translations The code is available on FTP: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/libgnomekbd/3.0/ It is strongly recommended to use xkeyboard-config 2.2. xkeyboard-config 2.2
With this release, I am breaking (only once, hopefully) the sequence of scheduled release of xkeyboard-config. This release is highly recommended (realistically - required) for GNOME3. The most important change in this release is totally redesigned approach to user-visible descriptions. That huge work (reworking ALL descriptions!) was done by William Jon McCann of RedHat. After those changes were made, it took a lot of work from the Translation Project guys to update the translations. I want to thank all translators who found some time last week to work on xkeyboard-config. My special gratitude goes to Catalan, Danish, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, Russian (go Russia!), Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian translators - they covered whopping 100% (933 lines)! Additional change that might affect you: the run-time dependencies of xkeyboard-config are checked at the build time. If that annoys you - use --disable-runtime-deps. There are also some new layouts, variants, model - usual stuff... So, here it is: http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.2.tar.bz2 http://www.x.org/releases/individual/data/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config-2.2.tar.gz The tag in git is xkeyboard-config-2.2 Bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xkeyboard-config There will be another release 2.3 in May (as it was planned, 4 months from January). It is already found that some descriptions need minor amendments - but I do not expect that huge wave of changes that you can see in 2.2 Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list

libxklavier 3.6
Hello people New release of libxklavier contains very important API for dealing with ISO codes for countries and languages (see xkeyboard-config CVS). The very last xkeyboard-config release (1.2) should work with it - new API will just return no results. This version is going to be used in the devel GNOME branch 2.23. The tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge.net: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-3.6.tar.gz?download The CVS repository is on cvs.freedesktop.org (the one on sf.net is obsolete), module xklavier, tag v_3_6. libxklavier 3.4
Hi all Immediately after new xkeyboard-config release 1.2, I am presenting libxklavier 3.4. The only change in that release is the change in the translation scheme. Now, libxklavier is using gettext explicitly, with xkeyboard-config translation domain (reading .gmo files installed by xkeyboard-config 1.2). That change allowed to drop a good deal of redundant code (much better implemented within gettext). It is strongly recommended to upgrade xkeyboard-config and libxklavier together - to versions 1.2 and 3.4 correspondingly. Any combination of previous and latest versions should work (1.1 and 3.4, 1.2 and 3.3) - but without translation (all user-visible description strings would be in English). The tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge.net: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-3.4.tar.gz?download The CVS repository is on cvs.freedesktop.org (the one on sf.net is obsolete), module xklavier, tag v_3_4. libgnomekbd 2.21.4.1
Hi all Several days after 2.21.4 I feel obliged to release 2.21.4.1. libgnomekbd 2.21.4
Hi all The early bird releas of the internal keyboard utility library libgnomekbd for 2.21.4 is ready for testing. The most important change is rendering of the layout using cairo (thanks to Ed Catmur). Which subsequently makes printing available in the keyboard configuration capplet (you should see those pdfs!). Beware: the latest gnome-control-center sources (in SVN) require the latest version of libgnomekbd! Also, there are some changes related to the tests - they are using GOption instead of popt, and they are optional in the build process now. Minor cygwin build fix is committed as well Tarballs are available from usual gnome.org file area. libgnomekbd 2.21.1
Hi ppl First unstable release of libgnomekbd in 2.21.x series is ready for bug reporting. The major change in that release is that indicator widget no longer uses dbus client-server overengineered model. This happened because of some translation-related changes down the stack, in xkeyboard-config (in CVS) and libxklavier (in CVS). Though, this version of libgnomekbd is still compatible with released libxklavier (3.3) and xkeyboard-config (1.1) - but translations just would not work. By the time GNOME 2.22 is released, new libxklavier 3.4 and xkeyboard-config 1.1 would be released (planned for January), so distromakers should feel reasonably safe. I know, it is a bit early but actually that release is somewhat overdue - because g-c-c has dependency on libgnomekbd 2.21.1 for some while. Welcome to get the code from GNOME FTP/Subversion. GSwitchIt Plugins 0.6
With a long delay after GNOME 2.16 release, API-compatible gswitchit-plugins are out. No functional changes are made - just API update. Feel free to download from either sf.net: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/gswitchit_plugins-0.6.tar.gz?download or GNOME CVS (using the tag v_0_6). libgnomekbd 0.1
Hi all Another GNOME internal library is born, libgnomekbd. Actually, it existed all the way from ... I do not remember when - as two virtual CVS modules - libgswitchit and libkbdraw (used in gnome-applets and gnome-control-center). Now (actually, starting from the next releases of g-c-c and g-a), these virtual modules are history. A separate project is here to stay, 2 separate .so objects (one of them does not depend on gtk), separate unit tests, GConf schemas, translation, bugs etc. What's inside: - keyboard configuration persistence (over GConf). - keyboard configuration registry, client and server parts (using DBUS). - keyboard indicator widget (can be used in any GNOME application). - keyboard layout indication widget (can be used in any GNOME application). The code is in gnome CVS (libgnomekbd). Tagged v_0_1. The source tarball is available from sf.net (sorry, I do not have access to download.gnome.org): http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libgnomekbd-0.1.tar.gz?download Comments/questions are welcome, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
Announce: libxklavier 3.1
Another of the libxklavier stable series is out. Changes from 3.0 (last stable release): some bugfixes, putting the copyright statements into the source files. The tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-3.1.tar.gz?download The CVS repository is on cvs.freedesktop.org, module xklavier, tagged v_3_1 Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
Announce: libxklavier 3.0
First release of new libxklavier stable series is out. Changes from 2.2 (last stable release): completely new API, based on glib/gobject. Changes from 2.91 (last unstable release): a lot of fixes, huge memory optimization, new function in API (asked by KDE developer) GNOME 2.15/2.16 requires new version of libxklavier (at least 2.91). KDE 4 (subversion trunk) optionally(?) uses libxklavier (at least 3.0). The tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-3.0.tar.gz?download The CVS repository is on cvs.freedesktop.org, module xklavier, tagged v_3_00 Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
GSwitchIt Plugins 0.5
Celebrating GNOME 2.14 release, dusty gswitchit-plugins are cleaned, polished, renewed and released. Some bugs are fixed in this release. New cairo-based plugin, Animation, added. Feel free to download from either sf.net: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/gswitchit_plugins-0.5.tar.gz?download or CVS (using the tag v_0_5) Bug reports/patches/plugin ideas are always welcome. Announce: libxklavier 2.2
Hi all Celebrating the oncoming release of GNOME 2.14, another stable release of libxklavier is out of the door. The only changes are better XML handling and small improvement in relation to the modular X.org filesystem layout. As usual, the file is available on the sourceforge: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-2.2.tar.gz?download Officially, from this point, the branch 2.x is created (for the support of GNOME 2.14 and earlier), and the 2.9x and 3.x are started in HEAD, with absolutely incompatible API (for GNOME 2.15 etc). ANNOUNCE: libxklavier 2.1
Hi all The bugfix release of the keyboard utility library libxklavier is out. There are no major changes, just some internal bugs were nailed (including the one which caused problems in the latest stable GNOME). As usual, the file is available on the sourceforge: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-2.1.tar.gz?download Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
GSwitchit Plugins 0.4 released
Hi people GSwitchIt Plugins are updated to the latest stable GNOME version 2.10. Unfortunately, on the way it lost the First group per Application plugin - because GNOME layout management was heavily redisigned. Still, three existing plugins are handy: - Flags (installs and enables flags instead of labels) - Sounds (sound indication) - Highlighter (using non-standard background/foreground colors, making the applet no SO transparent). The files are available either from GNOME CVS (gswitchit_plugins, tagged v_0_4) or from sf.net: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=319package_id=98520release_id=339187 Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
ANNOUNCE: libxklavier 2.0
Celebrating the oncoming GNOME 2.10 release, I am proud to present new stable release of the X keyboard utility library. The major change since last stable series (1.0x) is xmodmap support (as good as it can be in the world where most of users enjoy the beauties of XKB extension:). This improvement required major internal reogranization and API/ABI breakage. A lot of optimizations and cleanups were performed. Valgrind helped to find many many memory leaks - which definitely were fixed. So, the stuff can be downloaded, as usual, either from freedesktop.org CVS (repository xklavier) or sf.net: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=319package_id=49313release_id=308398 Bugreports are very welcome, as usual Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
ANNOUNCE: libxklavier 1.14
Another development release of the X keyboard utility library is out. This release is mostly about bugfixes (including some memory leaks) and minor internal architectural changes. Two environment variables are introduced in order to choose the backend at runtime - mostly useful for debugging purposes. The files are on sf.net: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=319package_id=49313release_id=293408 Cheers, Sergey PS In freedesktop.org CVS, the root is /cvs/xklavier, module libxklavier, tag v_1_14 ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list gnome-announce-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
libxklavier 1.12
Hi The very first xmodmap-enabled release of libxklavier is out. The API/ABI were broken again (sure, compatbility in GNOME CVS HEAD is maintained). Really hope to keep 1.1x series API stable from this point. So, from now on, applications using libxklavier can nearly transparently work with both xkb and xmodmap (as transparently as it is possible with these different approaches). The file are on sf.net site: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=319package_id=49313release_id=286063 Also, you can use freedesktop.org CVS (repository /cvs/xklavier, module libxklavier), tag v_1_12. Bugreports are welcome. Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
ANNOUNCE: libxklavier 1.11
Hi ppl Another development release in 1.1x series of the library is out. The most important thing is significant internal reogranization, further separation of XKB-dependant code - which eventually (soon?) would allow putting some xmodmap support in. Some bugs introduced in 1.10 were fixed (including 64-bit compatibility, thanks to James Henstridge). As usual, the tarballs are availabe from the sf.net site: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=319package_id=49313release_id=280308 Sure, freedesktop.org CVS is a valid source of the library code. The 1.1x series of the library are compatible with GNOME 2.9.x releases (gnome-control-center and gnome-applets are affected). Any feedback is very welcome. Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
ANNOUNCE: libxklavier 1.10
Hi all As a start of new libxklavier development series. I announce the version 1.10 of the X keyboard utility library. This version contains improved architecture of the configuration process - not the entire configuration compilation process is performed on the client side, so X server gets absolutely prepared X configuration - this allows to eliminate problems where X server and X client have different configuration bases. The API and ABI were changed - so users of GNOME 2.8.x are not supposed to use this version - they are recommended to stick to the stable series 1.0x of the library. In contrast, anyone using gnome-control-center and gnome-applets from CVS HEAD (and versions 2.9.x, when they are released) - have to upgrade. Some minor bugfixes/tweaks were made as well. Regards, Sergey ___ gnome-announce-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-announce-list
