Translating key names in GTK+

2005-06-10 Thread Matthias Clasen
I have just committed a fix for
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300224
to GTK+ head. This adds a number of new translatable strings for
key names to GTK+. They all use Q_() and have an easily recognizable
context string:

keyboard label|Delete
keyboard label|Insert

I have not marked all key names for translations, since that
would add many pointless strings to the pot file. If you notice
a keyname that is not marked for translation, but should be,
please tell me.

Also note that I took the occasion to add the keyboard label|
prefix to the modifier names (Alt, Ctrl, Shift) as well,
so their translations will probably be fuzzy now.

I plan to do an unstable GTK+ release by the end of next week.

Let me remind translators that it's best not to translate these key
names if they're not translated on keyboards in front of you. But, be
sure to strip the keyboard label| part in translations, since that's
how context marking works in glib.

Thanks for the notification Matthias, it's very much appreciated!

Re: is there any use to keep translating gnome 2.10?

2005-06-10 Thread Åsmund Skjæveland

Yair is there any use to keep translating gnome 2.10?
It will be shipped in Mandriva Linux 2006, which is scheduled at Oct 2005.

But will there be more releases? Will maintainers think that a new
translation for some obscure minority language is reason to make a new
release?

If a maintainer don't do a new release for a module when there is a new
GNOME release, and there are some updated translations, please send a mail
to the maintainer to kindly ask him to do a release. If you get no answer,
then send a mail here, and/or to the release team.

evolution-webcal has been branched

2005-06-10 Thread Rodney Dawes
I just branched evolution-webcal for gnome 2.10. HEAD will soon be
versioned as 2.3.0 and will check for libsoup 2.4 and fall back to
2.2 if 2.4 is not found.

Also, I started to write a small page grouping all the useful
informations for maintainers [4]. All contributions to this page are of
 course welcome!

It'd be great to have some links/words from i18n people, doc people and
a11y people on this page. This is a good chance to get maintainers look
at the right informations and avoid errors :-)

I can tell you that we are developing a script in Ubuntu to get
translations from GNOME's CVS into our system so we will get all updates
after release as we provide translation updates after release. That
means that any translation added to GNOME a 2.x release will be used in
Ubuntu. Of course, my opinion is that after last minor release from
GNOME, you should give preference to next major GNOME release.

So for instance, my recommendation is that, after 2.10.3 is released,
you should concentrate on 2.11 and take care of the 2.10 branches only
after you have 2.11 in a good status.

Cheers.
