String additions to 'gdm.gnome-2-20'

2008-03-10 Thread GNOME Status Pages
This is an automatic notification from status generation scripts on:
http://l10n.gnome.org/.

There have been following string additions to module 'gdm.gnome-2-20':

+ "Welcome to %n"

Note that this doesn't directly indicate a string freeze break, but it
might be worth investigating.

wait ;) you dont even have to delete the tagged thingie..

just merge the HEAD revision and the one before the commit with svn
merge. this will remove the head and delete your commit

had the same problem today, i just tagged without thinking that i could
have missed something. just do:

svn delete svn+ssh://svn.gnome.org/svn/yourmodule/tags/tag-to-delete

this will delete the tagged version. then fix your things in trunk or
whereever and retag it.

hope i could help!

The problem here was that gettext 0.14 didn't choke on this sort of
problem. Olav has recently updated gettext on the SVN server, so the
problem shouldn't arise in the future, as there's a pre-commit hook that
checks this.

Thanks for explaining. I updated the patch as you suggest, and removed
the gui/gdmcommon.c part of the previous patch. The new patch which I
did apply is attached for reference.

Can I get approval to add translations for these two strings?

Oops, forgot to answer this part of your message. If it's about fixing up
i18n for strings that were already in the package (i.e. no new strings
introduced), this is not a string freeze break, and you should go ahead and
commit it. Please notify [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you do, though.

Right, then, this is not a string freeze break. Thanks. I went ahead
and committed this change. Glad to understand I don't need approval
from the release-team for this change.

gnome-18n-list is cc:ed in this message, so I'll assume that the right
people are notified that they now need to translate these two strings
in GDM.

  "Welcome"
  "Welcome to %n"

Thanks again,

Brian

broken translations: Belarusian, Hindi, Nepali, Marathi

2008-03-10 Thread Reinout van Schouwen

Hello,

Currently, the Epiphany 2.22 branch contains no less than four
translations that don't pass msgfmt check. I filed the following bugs:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521464 (be)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521463 (hi)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521462 (mr)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521461 (ne)

As always, please run a msgfmt check before committing your
translations...!

Good catch. I just updated rni18n.xml. But it was the last modification
of this file!

For the GNOME 2.24 release-notes :-)

Malayalam is commented out while damned lies shows 80%. Note that after
tonight it won't be useful to update the list anymore. This as the
tarballs would have been released.
I saw a lot of languages just below 80%. Although some are already
in the list.

No, the gui/gdmcommon.c part of the patch is wrong. The N_() macro only
*marks* for translation, without actually doing any translations (that's why
you can use it in static array initializers, #defines, and such). It's just
there so that intltool knows that the string should be extracted into the
POT file. The actual translations happen when you call _() on the string
variable, e.g. the 'welcomemsg = g_strdup (_(GDM_DEFAULT_WELCOME_MSG));'
line of code.

Summary: leave the gui/gdmcommon.c part of your patch out and I think it'll
be fine.

Oops, forgot to answer this part of your message. If it's about fixing up
i18n for strings that were already in the package (i.e. no new strings
introduced), this is not a string freeze break, and you should go ahead and
commit it. Please notify [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you do, though.

Release notes translations

2008-03-10 Thread Olav Vitters
Hello,

I don't plan on making changes anymore to the Release Notes (I'd like
more screenshots, but that means more work for translators, and I don't
want that).

The release notes have been translated into various languages. Thanks!
I'd like more languages though :-)

If you translate the release notes into another language, please use the
.po file from the 2.20 release notes (msgmerge or something). Various
strings have stayed the same (e.g. list of languages).

  http://l10n.gnome.org/module/release-notes

Please also check if your language has 'UI translations' for GNOME
Library. This will allow users to see every word of the release notes in
their language:

  http://l10n.gnome.org/module/library-web

(here you'll be able to translate the 'News', .., 'Community', 'Search',
'Available languages', etc that appear on most GNOME Library documents)

PS: I'm not sure if someone will change/update the list of languages as
various languages have really improved since the last time this list was
composed.

Has the patch been tested? If you use N_(), you still have to call _()
later on. So I'd expect the changes in gdmcommon.c to be wrong.

Note that you don't need approval from the i18n team for the change,
since the strings were already there before, but not marked for
translations. (but you still need approval from release team to break
the hard code freeze)

I think Kenneth is talking about a different overview. There are two
lists:
1. Overview of the release notes translations
2. Overview of supported GNOME languages

#1 is automated, #2 is manual.

I think your last commit came along with 3 fuzzy strings in
translations. Can you revert the changes? I think its not a good time
to add new strings because we are close to a new release.
