Language translations in Damed Lies

2009-01-11 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
Hi,

Big thanks for the recent improvements in Damed Lies.

However, I wonder where the translations of language
names come from. They are different from all projects
I used to work with. Not iso-codes nor anything else
in GNOME.

And how should I fix them to be consistent with
other translations in GNOME or iso-codes?

Thanks,

Not tested, but should work:

intltool-update --pot
msgmerge -U pt_BR.po seahorse.pot --previous

I believe believe there's no way of "intltool-update pt_BR" work unless
the intltool-update's source code is changed. If you're interested,

Hi Petr.

This is the main reason we generate our diffs and send them to the local
discussion list after submmiting the translation for proffreading.
This make the reviewer's work a little bit easier.

Cheers!

Well, no doubt this feature is a nice idea, but since there's not a support
for, say, auto-generated diffs, at least as far as I know, the current
process dealing with the whole message catalogs makes it very difficult and

Yes, Marcel.
After that process one of your reviewers can "Reserve [the .po file] for
proofreading" and work on the translation again and after this, send the .po
file to D-L again and set it "Ready for submission". Once you are a
commiter, just send it to SVN. ;)

The situation described at the page was valid in mid-2007. In that time
it was true. I was very overloaded and I was unresponsive to e-mail from
our Slovak translators for about a year (maybe longer). During that
period my commit activity was zero too.

Since approx. October 2007 I started again engage in the GNOME
translation project and now the situation is better (not ideal, but much
better :-)).

Hope this is enough :-).

My understanding of "Requiring review" is that a reviewer is using
this action to notify the translator that the translation is not correct
and should be reviewed.

I think we need a state change diagram to make the workflow functionality
in Vertimus well understood by everybody. Thanks.

Umm, the page explicitly mentions that editing of it is reserved for
the coordination team. So Marcel is doing exactly the right thing in
asking for the page to be edited.

From

They may bitrot, but they aren't for anything critical, and
should not be used for UI strings anyway. Most of them are for
GError translations from libnm-util crypto stuff. Some may be
for system settings plugins. We'll have to do a bit more work to
get them translated, yes, but I don't believe that it's
critical.

So could we remove NetworkManager from l10n.gnome.org or should we poke
NM developers?

I've a similar doubt about "Requiring review" action

Initially I believed that "Requiring review" was an action that
translators could perform in order to notify reviews[1] that a new PO
file is ready for proofreading, but actually to act in a total different
manner (sets the status to "To Review" and resets the available action
to "Reserve for translation")

Related to this, I've just opened bug #567345 (add hints in PO file for
actions and statuses) and #567345 (add documentation about usage)

PS OK, maybe I'm a really really dumb translator, but... why "requiring
review" is the only action using the -ing form???

[1] about this, commiters are notified when a new translation is "ready
for upload", doing the same for reviewers when a new translation is
added could be too much, but maybe an "Ask for a proofread" action could
be appreciated
