The same problem was here with Russian language. Even two problems,
actually. First, there's a problem with declension: in Russian, you need
another grammatical case (Instrumental) after "Открыть" ("Open with")
verb. This problem has been solved by using "Открыть в программе" ("Open
in a program") as a translation for "Open with", so that we could use
applications names in Nominative case. After that, however, we were
merely obliged to use quotes, since the word "program" actually required
it. So, in 2.26 for some archive, e.g., I see a Russian equivalent of
"Open in a program «Archive Manager»", which is more or less ok,
although a bit clumsy.

An excellent point. And we should probably consider each of these
individually. It is a little strange that we are designing FullName
proposal around the implementation details of gnome-panel. There are
at least two cases for open with. We have menu entries in context
menus on files and we have the full "Open With" dialog. My thinking
currently is that "open with" menu should simply use the Name. Since:
* The default handler is already set and doesn't need to be discovered
* If you are looking for a specific app you know the name

Right? Unless we don't consider names to be translated or require
articles or the resulting string to be a proper sentence.
This is an interesting point. Yes, an OpenWithLabel is probably
actually needed for translation reasons. Another example, using
Swedish:
"Open with" -> "Öppna med"
but
Wrong: "Öppna med Webbläsaren Epiphany"
Correct: "Öppna med webbläsaren Epiphany"
The reason is that the capitalization rules in Swedish (and this is
true for many languages) are rather strict compared to English; only
the beginning of sentences and proper names must ever be capitalized.
Concepts like book title capitalization does not exist in Swedish and
would be considered a grammatical error.
But this is of course a whole other issue.
Just for information, the prefix "Open with" was removed from nautilus
(see [1]) but it might present in other applications.

That hasn't been established. In the xdg-list thread one of the last
comments from Christian Rose said this:
"Webbläsare - Epiphany" or "Webbläsare (Epiphany)" is not wrong per
se, it's just bad language style."
I was using Swedish as an example as it is my mother tongue. And your
question was about my specific example, using Swedish. That does not
imply that this issue may have, and probably has, other implications
on some of the world's other several thousand languages! Please do not
generalize. In my experience, it is better not to assume too much
about other languages and their conformity with English.

I have been looking pretty much everywhere to find such, so if I missed something can you give me a link, please? Wrt my translations - Xiphos (www.xiphos.org), SwordWeb (www.crosswire.org/~refdoc/swordweb/webapp, BibleDesktop (www.crosswire.org/bibledesktop.html) I will go ahead and identify what exactly I need updated and work on that first. Evolution branched for GNOME 2.28
Hi, We have made a early branching for evolution for GNOME 2.28. We have been discussing on this in the past and to have the context, please go through the following threads, http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-hackers/2009-August/msg8.html and http://mail.gnome.org/archives/release-team/2009-June/msg00018.html The following modules have been branched, gtkhtml, evolution-data-server, evolution and evolution-exchange. The branch is gnome-2-28. Only critical fixes will be made for evolution-2.28. By critical fixes, I mean blockers and important bugs identified as must-fix by module maintainers. All freezes would apply for gnome-2-28 branch. Please note that these patches needs to be committed to master and gnome-2-28 branch. The kill-bonobo-branch and eds-dbus-port will be merged into master. So it means master will not have any freezes. Most of the active work will be going on master branch to get it usable for evolution 2.29.1. Once the branches are merged to trunk, we would be replying back to this thread mentioning the same. We have made a rough road-map for Evolution 3.0 - http://www.go-evolution.org/Evo3.0 which will be discussed and modified further. We will also be discussing over some pending tasks from Evolution 2.28 and include the ones which are possible for http://www.go-evolution.org/Evo2.28 . Hi, one string has been changed in gnome-disk-utiliy. The wrong string was: "The selected file system has a concept of file ownership. If checked, the created file system be will be owned by you. If not checked, only the super user can access the file system." It is now similar to another one. Cheese - UI/String changes
We have a new Wide Mode, an horizontal layout to optimize available space in small screens like netbook ones. It can be activated in the following ways: - from gconf through the new /apps/cheese/wide_mode boolean key - from the command line with the -w/--wide switch (this will override the gconf key) - from "Wide Mode" toggle action in the main menu (it triggers on-the-fly widgets reparenting) The state is saved in the gconf key so you will get last used mode at startup (if not overridden from command line). We eventually will add some screen size autodetection for mode switching but I'm not completely sure I will do it and shouldn't break UI freeze anyway. There are 4 new strings related to this UI change, two for the new menu action and two for the gconf schema.
