I thought we were in UI freeze only.

 Could you please ask
for approval before committing new strings? It is often approved in the
beginning of the freeze, but however requests are always appreciated.

Well, being blunt, there isn't going to be a network control panel for
3.0 if I don't add a few more strings.

NetworkManager 0.9 landed a few days ago, and I'm working day and
night to get the network panel in some kind of state for release.
That's going to me a few string additions, which I apologize for.

Richard.

Thanks for clearifying. I think the best would be to have a clear
dead-line when you think this work is finished so translators don't waste
to much effort hunting each and every string before.

I would propose to give you freedom to change strings in network panel
till March 21 (hard-code freeze). That should give everybody two weeks to
translate the remaining strings. Any later addition really needs approval
from i18n (despite release-team/doc-team).

Note that this will be an exception for only this part of the
gnome-control-center module.

Hope the rest of the i18n-coordination group agrees here facing the fact
that release management for such a big move as GNOME3 is really difficult.

Regards,
Johannes

Sure, I don't think it's a huge problem if GNOME 3.0 isn't 100.000%
translated at release time (although 99% is probably a good aim...),
as we'll likely have a 3.0.1 very soon after the main release.

Re: UI and string freeze break request for blocking contacts in Empathy

2011-03-11 Thread Johannes Schmid
Hi!

We recently implemented contacts blocking in Empathy and are wondering
if that's something we could merge to master.

The branch adds some UI and strings so it needs a freeze exception.

That's a feature that loads of users have been asking for a while so
this may be a cool addition to 3.0.

With my i18n-head on I guess that should be managable if merged within the
next fews days as we are at the beginning of string freeze.

I guess the doc people probably would like to have a working live cd
package next wednesday (Hackfest) though...

Anyway 1/2 from i18n.

Regards,
Johannes

String additions to 'gnome-control-center.master'

2011-03-11 Thread GNOME Status Pages
This is an automatic notification from status generation scripts on:
http://l10n.gnome.org.

There have been following string additions to module
'gnome-control-center.master':

+ Active
+ Connecting
+ Failed
+ Preparing

Note that this doesn't directly indicate a string freeze break, but it
might be worth investigating.

Can we get a blog post or something describing the feature
once it's merged? That will help us know what we need to do.
Empathy's help is still one of our best, and I'd like to keep
it that way.

Thanks,

I would really rather it be done before then. Networking is
a huge topic set in the help. It's not just about the strings;
it's about the whole user interaction. If that's not settled
in time for us to spend real time on it at the docs sprint,
then our networking help will almost certainly suck.

Richard, I know you're working hard on this. It's just that
there's a lot of people, from documentation to translation
to marketing, who have to work hard as well when stuff like
this changes so late.

I know this stuff is important, and I've been patient about
it so far. But if we can't come out of the docs sprint with
something we're proud of, I'm going to feel really bad for
wasting the foundation's money.

Thanks,
Shaun
