New coordinator for Chinese (China) team
Hello, I'd like to announce that Boyuan Yang will replace me as the coordinator of the Chinese (China) translation team. After serving this role for slightly more than 10 years, I think this is a good time to step down, though I will still be around to help with translations. I know Boyuan personally and he has been working on Chinese (China) team for quite some time. He is very passionate and his works have impressive quality. I'm confident he will do a great job with the new role. It depends on the availability of my free time (and it's 3AM for me atm), and please don't try to push some pressure to other people in any mean, whatever you do in that direction will probably slow down everything because we are all volunteers. Hi, I don't really think releasing those ones are really meaningful because we (zh_CN team) only accept updates to released branches if the master branch is updated at the same time. Updates sent to old branches without updating master branch are ignored without notice because of the limitations of manpower. Hi, As I've said previously please be patient. You need to have quite some accepted translations before becoming a reviewer. The problem we don't have enough active reviewer was caused by not having enough people doing long term commitment, and cannot be solved in a way of compromising quality. We do have problems that existing reviewers and committers are not being active enough to keep up with current submissions, but it's not something we are able to solve by simply accepting more people as reviewer instantly. It's admirable when you are able to invest a lot of time to contribute, but we are all volunteers and people might be busy working on real life stuff. Taking over the Position of the Coordinator of zh_CN team
Hello, (Excuse me for posting a second time, just corrected the Subject...) I have been working with the GTP zh_CN team as a committer since 2008 and I have done most of the work in the past two years. Also, the current coordinator is busy doing his own work and working on other FOSS projects. After discussing with Funda Wang, the current coordinator, we decided that I will take over the position of the coordinator and he will stay as a committer. Hello, I have been working with the GTP zh_CN team as a committer since 2008 and I have done most of the work in the past two years. Hi all, I am Aron Xu from Chinese (China) team, and would like to apply for joining GTP Coordination Team to help more with coordination efforts. Here are my contribution overview and I am ready to answer your questions. Thank you for taking time to have a look. Contribution Overview GNOME: 1.Committer in Chinese (China) team[1]. I am the one who is actually doing the most coordination and review/commit work. Refer to commit messages in GNOME GIT or notification messages in the archive of i18n-zh[2], our team's current contacting mailing list. 2.GNOME Foundation member, since Jan 2009. 3.Author and maintainer of Chinese (China) translation guidelines[3]. This is the comprehensive translation guidelines for translating Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to Chinese (China) language. It is used for translating FOSS projects to zh_CN that coordinated on i18n-zh[2] (including GNOME/KDE/TP, Debian/Ubuntu and more). As far as I know, translators who are working on Chinese (Taiwan) are also proposing a guide[4] that based on this one. (Now it is stored in my Ubuntu FTP.) 4.Translated some guides to Chinese on GNOME Live[5][6]. GNOME's Downstream: 1.Debian: Chinese (China) translator of dpkg, apt and adduser. I will take over the maintainence of aptitude domain's translation in near future. 2.Ubuntu: a) Ubuntu Translations Coordinators[7] team member. Help maintain the translation import queue for Ubuntu, and triage bugs for translation issues. b) Leader and translator of Ubuntu Simplified Chinese Translators team[8]. c) Wrote a series of guide introducing localization in the FOSS ecosystem - including starter guides, upstream and downstream relationship, how to use the various kinds of infrastructures, guide to contribute to upstream projects. I don't think using the existing MeeGo team is a good choice, I've requested for membership at the same time I submit my translation to clutter (almost 3 days ago), and there isn't any response till now. There aren't any activity recorded of any members in that team, translations are just the initial copy-n-paste ones from GNOME, using teams like this will significantly make the maintenance harder. Another solution is making a copy of clutter on git.gnome.org and let gnome translation teams maintain translations there, then developers pull translations from git.gnome.org and merge them to clutter's development repository. Sorry, they're just listed there, but submission should go to the respective upstream projects. It doesn't make sense when the team committers doesn't have access to push translations to the repository. Hi Michael, Did you have a look at http://l10n.gnome.org ? And I think such a topic should move to gnome-i18n list instead of this web-list. For a well organized team, the Damned-Lies system is much better than using Launchpad, though it can ease the participation for those contributors don't like to deal with po files directly. a suggestion to d-l
Hi, I think d-l needs one more Action, that is to drop the file which has been uploaded to the site for review. When committer or perhaps reviewer takes this action, and the only thing it does is the make the status of the file turn from Translated to Inactive. This will be good when dealing with some translation with quite low quality. At present time we need to take "inform of submission" and leave a message to tell what happens, but with a "drop" action defined, everything will be much more clear.
