Drivel has moved..

2009-04-05 Thread Daniel Nylander
 Original Message

Subject: drivel 2.0.4-1: Please translate the package drivel
From:Neil Williams codeh...@debian.org
Date:Sun, April 5, 2009 6:32 pm
To: Debian Internationalization debian-i...@lists.debian.org
--

Dear Debian I18N people,

OK, I admit, I've changed the PO file after calling for translations.
It was to fix a long-standing bug and it's added 1 untranslated string
to the existing translations already received for ru, pt and ne. Sorry.

Also, this is confirmation that drivel upstream has moved away from
svn.gnome.org and that all PO files obtained from svn.gnome.org are
invalid and outdated. I can say this with some authority because I'm
now part of the upstream team behind drivel and I'll be preparing the
2.0.4 upstream release and bringing those changes into the later 2.1.1
release due in a few months time. *Please do not commit any further PO
changes to svn.gnome.org* - send them to bugzilla.gnome.org instead or
to the Debian BTS, or direct to me (but I prefer one of the other two
options).

I did always intend to make a second call subject to the resolution of
the upstream RCS and issues to do with outdated PO files in
svn.gnome.org
so here it is.

See:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2009/03/msg00060.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2009/03/msg00064.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2009/03/msg00065.html

Drivel subversion now lives at SourceForge (because Gnome decided to
refuse
me an account) and all future updates will be made via SF, not gnome.
There will be no further commits to svn.gnome.org by drivel upstream and
any commits to svn.gnome.org made by anyone else risk being completely
ignored.
drivel at svn.gnome.org may be deleted in future, but as I am deemed
unworthy
of access, it is not under my control.

http://drivel.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/drivel/

2.0.4 will be prepared from a branch and changes then folded back into
trunk/
for the 2.1.1 release.

http://drivel.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/drivel/branches/drivel-2-0/

I would like to know if some of you would be interested in translating
drivel. In the absence of any updates from previous translators other
than
for ne, ru and pt, I'm opening up drivel translation to anyone who feels
like doing it.

drivel already includes bg.po ca.po cs.po de.po el.po en_CA.po es.po
fi.po
fr.po ja.po lt.po nb.po ne.po nl.po no.po pa.po pl.po pt.po pt_BR.po
ru.po
rw.po sq.po sr.po s...@latn.po sv.po vi.po zh_CN.po zh_HK.po zh_TW.po.

http://drivel.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/drivel?view=revrevisiong9

All of these need updates and most need new translators. I'll send PO
files
to anyone who asks for the list of existing translations below:

(Those who have already sent updated translations will receive PO files
directly, as normal - they are ne, ru and pt. PO files can also be
obtained
from SourceForge SVN at the branch URL listed above, revision 679.)

against drivel.

updates.
Take one, update it and file the bug - I and the drivel upstream team
will be very grateful for your contribution.

Wed, 15 Apr 2009 17:12:10 +0100.

If you have read so far, please find the POT file in attachment.

It's because there are a few empty strings (level 3 characters for instance)
with only a context (and an empty msgid). For Dutch, I just removed them.

Problem is that intltool (and DL) says there are 4 untranslated strings.
Poedit and gtranslator says there are 0 (100% translated).
There is something fishy here.

Just a comment: I personally do not like that you import translations
from Launchpad. GNOME has quality assurance, Launchpad hasn't.

I'm the original Swedish translator. I did a checkout of SVN today and

Thank you for chimming in about this topic. I also have a great deal
of respect for all the quality assurance that we, GNOME translators,
have so hard fought to establish. I can assure you that when I set up
my app to be translated via Rosetta, I made sure that only official
team members of the Ubuntu translators team could perfom it. As you
can see from the Swedish translation (for BillReminder) page:

Believe me, this is a serious problem. I have been the manager for the
Swedish Ubuntu Translators team for a couple of years. Swedish is a
difficult language and many, many people can't write even close to
correct Swedish. The method we used was to limit the translator group to
only 5 people, and fight off all people who applied for membership. That
was drastic but worked. Now we channel all translations through these
few members.

Since you are the administrator for this team and the project can only
be translated by an official member of this team, is Zahirovic Mensur
qualified for this work, is he not a member and maybe we found a bug
on LP, or is there something else I missed?

This has to be a Launchpad bug. This guy is part of no translator group
and should not be able to do much more that make suggestions.
I have filed a bug, https://bugs.launchpad.net/rosetta/+bug/261660

You are correct, it's more correct but maybe not appropriate.

File in gnome2-user-guide

I have a problem with the Swedish translation for gnome2-user-guide.

The string File is used on two different places in the guide.
File for describing the object in the Yelp menubar and File for just

Problem is that we don't use the same word for these two, Fil (file)
and Arkiv (menubar).

How can this be changed in the guide?
How about adding guimenuFile/guimenu for the menubar string? (same
goes for the other menu objects on the same page, Yelp chapter).

 of those?

Hi Kenneth,

Normally, these messages regarding missing files in the POTFILES.in are
handled case by case. I usually add the missing files when I see them.
There is a string freeze now so I wouldn't recommend that you add this
file, at least not now. If you sometime want to add missing files to the
POTFILES.in, add the files in alphabetical order.

Usable commands to run in the po directory:

intltool-update -m (check for missing files)
intltool-update -p (create a new POT file for new translations)
intltool-update xx (update translation, where xx is your country code)

It is no violation at all to add extra strings to a translation. I have
done that for the Swedish translation of dasher. But I have only added
this missing file locally.

Daniel

I think yes, because we don't know much about the intentions of module
maintainers with the individual files, although most of the cases are
caused by forgetfulness. Good example is a bug i filed yesterday:

I have submitted a lot of bugreports now.
Already a few minutes after, some has been fixed

Hi all,

Silly question maybe, are the 'learn' pages localized?
I mean, the translations has already been made but are the localized
documents available on the gnome.org website?

Hi Michael,

Where can we poor translators find the POT for HEAD?

I found the 2.8 revision here, but maybe this page should be updated
with the HEAD revision?

 Hi,

As of today, brasero strings are frozen for at least one week until the
 next 0.5.0 stable release.

It is available in GNOME CVS, module brasero.

Swedish is now 100%.

How about adding brasero to the l10n status page?

Daniel
