String changes in yelp
Hi, I've just committed a few string changes to yelp. These are mostly to add spaces to menu entry titles. There are also a couple of translator comments added to the more ambiguous entries (from a translator-looking-at-po-files view). New string in Yelp
Hi,
I've just committed a fix to yelp which adds a new string:
container->default_snippet = g_strdup (_("No Comment"));
This stops badness when the default comment for a document is NULL.

String breakage in yelp
Hi, It appears I've been a bad boy and (accidentally) committed a string change to yelp. The affected string change is: - "No href attribute found on yelp:document" + "No href attribute found on yelp:document\n" in yelp-transform.c (i.e. the addition of a \n at the end). First, sorry. It was a genuine mistake that I overlooked when trying to debug an issue in yelp. The string belongs to a warning message that is spewed to the terminal. Under vitrually no circumstances should this be displayed [1]. Since I committed this, there have been several translations committed [2]. For this reason, I've been somewhat nervous about backing the change out. I'm happy to back out the change if requested, but do not want to cause more problems for translators. Therefore, I'm requesting either a) permission to leave the string as is or b) permission to revert the change. I'm happy to do either, but would like the i18n team to let me know which they would prefer. Promise, this is the final change I'm making to yelp this cycle. Yelp POTFILES updated
Hi, I've moved various files from POTFILES.in to POTFILES.skip as they are now obsolete. Yelp string change (again)
Hi, In yelp-window.c I've added a new string "Phrase not found". This is shown in the search bar in addition to the beeping / flashing that happens when a find term isn't found. String changes in Yelp
3 changes: yelp-print.c: Title of the dialog now marked for translation yelp-search.c: Error messages are less crypic and (slightly) more informative. They also no longer contain rubbish I put in while testing and forgot about when merging :P yelp-toc.c: Remove the quote marks around "TOC file" in an error message. Yelp Changes
(All in one, to save annoying everyone with multiple emails) Yelp has been branched for 2.20. We're a little late in this. We have also just merged a monster rework branch into trunk, which introduces a lot of new / changed strings (sorry!). The UI for displaying docbook help has changed slightly (the menu is now down the right), and we now depend on Rarian instead of scrollkeeper. This shouldn't pose too much of a problem since rarian replaced scrollkeeper in jhbuild yesterday. I've tried to update the POTFILES.in file and think I've got it all, but would love someone to check over the changes. Note to translators: Rarian doesn't have any translatable strings, so no new strings have been introduced by the change to Rarian. (Potential) Request for UI- and feature-freeze break for Yelp
Hi, Shortly before feature freeze, yelp was granted a new super-power: the ability to repeat a search online. This came in the form of a little comment at the end of the search results along the lines of "Repeat the search online at The GNOME Support Forums", where "The GNOME Support Forums" was hyperlinked to ... the forums. Since then, myself and Shaun have been trying desperately to get a redirect script put up somewhere in gnome.org [1] which would parse the query and redirect to gnomesupport.org. This allowed several things: 1) To stop from breaking older Yelps if / when gnomesupport.org changed its query style 2) In future would allow us to log searches and improve out search in yelp Unfortunately, despite our repeated attempts, this hasn't happened yet. Since GNOME 2.16 is due out soon, there are three options A) Someone with more weight than myself or Our Fearless Leader commands the script to be put into place. It happens, everyone rejoices. B) We put the script up in one of our home directories (i.e. in www.gnome.org/~dscorgie/ ) C) We remove the feature from yelp 2.16 (a.k.a the "throwing the toys out the pram" option) (B) is ill-advised as the account would then have to remain active forever and ever. Plus, if the account holder disappears, it wouldn't be easy to gain access to change the script / read any logfiles produced.[2] Therefore, I'm requesting a UI- and feature-freeze break to remove this functionality, unless the script is in place before the deadline for modules for 2.16 (4th September). [3][4] The break doesn't affect documentation. It also wouldn't affect translations as the appropriate part would only be "#if 0"'d out until the script was put in place. String Removal in Yelp
Hi, A little while ago, I wrote to tell you about a new string in yelp, the URL of the "Repeat the search online" feature. Some further discussion has resulted in this now being handled in our own script (it will be at some point soon anyway). The upshot of this is that the string is no longer required for translation and has been removed from the translated strings. Hi, Yelp has just received a large update to its searching function. This has introduced 3 new "strings" that need translating. These are (with the translator comments from the source): 1. A list of "Ignore words" /* Translators: Do not translate this list exactly. These are * colon-separated words that aren't useful for choosing search * results; they will be different for each language. Include * pronouns, articles, very common verbs and prepositions, * words from question structures like "tell me about" and * "how do I", and words for functional states like "not", * "work", and "broken". */ 2. A list of common prefixes /* Translators: This is a list of common prefixes for words. * Do not translate this directly. Instead, use a colon * separated list of word-starts. In English, an example * is re-. If there is none, please use the term NULL * If there is only one, please put a colon after. * E.g. if the common prefix is re then the string would be * "re:" */ 3.
