 Thanks,

Sorry about that. I've created a gnome-3-6 branch. Note that
gnome-initial-setup isn't quite on the GNOME release schedule yet, so
I'm not sure if the freeze break applies to it.

Proposing 'gnome-initial-setup' for translation

2012-07-30 Thread Jasper St. Pierre
We'd like to have initial setup for 3.6. Right now a few random people
have found it through the new modules list, but before it's too late,
I'd like to have it added to Damned Lies.

I don't quite know what the process is, and couldn't find any page on
the wiki of what to do, so I'm just writing here.

 Jasper,

I do not see 'gnome-initial-setup' listed in the Damned Lies list of modules:

 http://l10n.gnome.org/module/

At the bottom of that page, there is a statement:

If anything should be changed on this page, please submit a bug report.

 linking to

 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=damned-liescomponent=l10n.gnome.org

I would imagine that filing a bug would be the best method of
reporting this issue. Once the 'gnome-initial-setup' module is
listed on Damned Lies, it can be added to the proper Release Set as
 you request.

Not sure how I missed it. Filed bug

Seems you broke the GNOME 3.4 string freeze with you commit on alacarte:

The point is to not add strings to already released modules, that's what
a string freeze is for :)

Just like developers fix bugs, we translators, fix any string pending to
be translated, that's why new branches are for. To prevent new strings
to pollute those statistics, which will only bring confusion to
 translators and users.

Well sure, but there isn't going to be another gnome-3-4 release, so
why bother making a branch for it?

Request freeze break for: fail whale extensions list looks bad

To make this clear, this is a request for

Translators: This adds the string A problem has occurred and the system
can't recover. All extensions have been disabled as a precaution.

That looks like the old ui?  Anyways, patch looks OK, and clearly the
 old UI was insane, so:

 r-t approval 1/2

I'd really like a current screenshot.

 No objection for docs though.

This comment is not specific to the requested UI change:
If you have disabled all extensions as a precaution for me, why is the
only available option to Log out (implies that I am logged in
already), instead of just allowing me to continue to log in (now without
extensions) which is exactly what I wanted to do?

As I said, that screenshot is faked. The fail whale is supposed to
come up in the context of a GNOME crash, in which case logging you out
and logging back in is the best solution.

This is the commit that added the string. It's been there before, I
just added the _(). From what I've been told, xgettext will extract
the string without it (which is why we use '' for untranslated
strings). I could be wrong, though.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood Piotr message. Of course, this is in the
category String previously not marked for translation, so it is valid.

But I'm not sure I understand what you said: xgettext will extract the
string without it. That should be xgettext will *not* extract the
 string without it, shouldn't it?

 Claude

I have been told that a string like FooBar will be extracted, but a
string like 'FooBar' won't, due to how xgettext and JS work. From the
bug as well:

This doesn't add a string but mark an existing string as
translatable, this is not subject to string freeze.

  are locked to extension.gnome.org.)

One thing that I pointed out in review was that I thought it was
important to have an obviously client-side dialog before downloading and
installing an extension - to make it clear to the user what is going on,
and catch any funny business is going on.

(E.g., XSS exploit on shell.gnome.org allows someone to script the
plugin to download an extension they've snuck past code review.)

  https://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2011-August/msg00242.html

Adding this dialog requires a string freeze break to add the strings:

     Install

(First string still under discussion, but will be something like that.)
