Then the GNOME board could approve it - you need to ask the board for a simple yes/no decision or it won't happen. Maybe you could contact the GNOME Art team. They could make some suggestions. Don't focus on the "Gnome" idea. Few people think of small mythical beings when they think of GNOME. Unfortunately, I don't have a good suggestion. Translating release notes
Hi, translators. As you might know, we create release notes for every GNOME release, such as these for GNOME 2.8: http://www.gnome.org/start/2.8/notes/ For GNOME 2.10 (released March 9th), I plan to finish the release notes 1 week early, on March 2nd, so that you have the chance to translate it into other languages. The release notes are written in docbook format, in the releng cvs module. I don't think we have any special way to deal with docbook yet like we can deal with po files. So I will just create a translations directory and you can add a directory under that for each locale. There is also a 1 page press release in OpenOffice format. I hope that we can translate that as well. Davyd, if possible, it would be helpful if you made some notes about your setup when doing the screenshots, and how you get your fancy effects in GIMP, and maybe how you found some more obscure parts of the UI. If you still want to change the layout, that's OK. Now would be the
time. What do you need? Otherwise, we'll just try to get it right for

The GNOME 2.10 release notes have now been finished in English, and are ready for translation. We have until March 9th. Some people have already started. Does anyone know of a LGPL (or similar) library that can give me a (translatable) list of currencies (with symbol, name, and country)? Is there any way to avoid the pango markup in .glade files from being marked as translatable? The release notes will be ready for translation on August 31st, giving you one week for translation before the release on September 7th. 2.12 Release Notes ready for translation
The release notes are now ready for translation, giving you one week for translation before the release on September 7th. The release notes are now string frozen, and only the gnome-i18n co-ordinators may decide to break that freeze. We are using the xml2po system again, after it worked so well last time. Release Notes screenshots
Please do try to keep the translated screenshots similar to the originals. I notice that some of you have quite complicated "hacker" screenshots on the front page. But it should really show a default desktop - with the default theme, default background, default panel applets, etc. The original is not completely default, but I didn't have time to fix it. Please don't let that encourage you to make screenshots that are even less default - remember that GNOME is meant to be easy and simple for new users. I'm really pleased to see how many translations are already done. On approx September 12th I will email here with details, so you will have one week to translate them before the release on September 19th. Translating the GNOME 2.20 release notes
The GNOME 2.20 release notes are very nearly ready. A draft is here: http://www.gnome.org/start/2.20/notes/en/ (Don't link to that until 2.20 is released, please. That would make me unhappy.) The string freeze for the release notes will be on September 12th, but you can start translating now, if you like.
