Hi, in git repository, PO files are not updated automatically, so if the modules you listed were not included in the uploaded translations, they will won't appear. Simple solution: get the PO file from damn-lies [1] and translate/upload that. Hi all, I don't think it would be good idea to base module death only on past commits. Take galeon — it is rather actively translated, but Wikipedia states it has been discontinued 3 years ago [1]. Even if we only consider non-translation commits, there might be only bug fixes, that no one wants to release. The idea behind removing dead modules form D-L is to save translators time, so it should be done quickly (ideally one day after final release). Since galeon is replaced by epiphany, new releases are not needed. So we should ask maintainer, if [s]he believes, if the software is to see next release, when there are suspicions of dying software. On the other hand, there might be other software, that is useful and being used, but not actively developed, which should see translation update releases, even if there is no maintainer. It can be as short as a tweet. Thus the registration becomes huge part of the process. I believe for other types of bugs the minimal useful user input must be larger, but I am not sure. I have noticed that advanced translation bug tracking is too difficult to bother with in day to day use (at least for me) and I intend to simplify this process by making simplified and specialized bug tracker for translators. I was wondering, if other translators are having similar issues and if my work would be of use for community. Confusion over epiphany new name
Hello! It seems that Epiphany, the browser, is gradually being renamed to Web. If I understand correctly, this is because a typical user has no idea what Epiphany does. But for translators this is problematic. 1. When I go to Web's About page, I see pearls like Web Website and Copyright 2003-1012 The Web Developers. My language doesn't use articles, so the translations would be equivalent to Website of the Web and Copyright 2003-1012 Web developers. 2. I think you don't have to hide program name here, otherwise a bug report like My web is broken is both correct and confusing. 3. Some strings still include Epiphany, and the GPL is half Web, half GNOME Web browser. Is this intentional? A similar thing was done with Nautilus, but it was renamed only in GNOME shell menu. It has remained Nautilus in the About dialog and so on. I think this is an OK compromise. In any case, some consistency and clear expectations would be nice. I would suggest the task of translating documentation, like Cheese, some games or specific pages of GNOME User Documentation. If this idea is acceptable, I can select specific tasks. Also, testing of translation quality (look for completeness, consistency, spelling, grammar and all that). But I have no idea how to measure the result. Another task could be to review documentation and mark it as either ready to translate (up-to-date and complete) or not. And another research task could be to create a list of popular applications / packages that should be high-priority for translation. And I could mentor l10n tasks. There is not enough time to create an emotional binding to the project that the student works on. I'd rather call it drive-by contributions. Patches might need several iterations and you will need to be both patient and reactive (as students cannot claim a new task until their patch has been reviewed and marked as completed by mentors). It might be helpful to mention in task descriptions your availability, e.g. that you also have free weekends or don't plan to review submissions on christmas holidays. But all in all it is a good way to help young people to get a first idea of FOSS and contributing to it, and to create some future contributors. Are you in? Removing inactive projects from Extra GNOME Applications
In gnome extra section there are software packages, which are not under active development, like beagle and galeon. Even if some distributions pack such software, translating them is pointless, unless someone packs up new translations in release. Galeon its latest code change commits in May 2010, Beagle in February 2011. So what are your criteria for not under active development? That is a judgement call. My personal criteria is not packed in mayor distributions.
