String changes in GCalctool (new manual)

Hi all,

I've replaced the existing GCalctool manual (out of date) with a new
Mallard version. Sorry for the late arrival, if you find any problems
or have any suggested improvements please commit those directly or
email me with changes.

Additionally there is a string change for the error message displayed
when passing an undefined value to tangent.

The boolean functions have been converted to uppercase (xor->XOR) -
translations automatically updated
The error messages for boolean operations have been changed from
"natural number" to "positiive integer", e.g. "Boolean NOT is only
defined for natural numbers" -> "Boolean NOT is only defined for
positive integers"

GCalctool string freeze request

2010-02-28 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi,

I'd like to update the tooltips on the base buttons to include the
shortcut keys, the string changes will be:
"Base 2" -> "Base 2 (Ctrl+B)"
"Base 8" -> "Base 2 (Ctrl+O)"
"Base 16" -> "Base 2 (Ctrl+H)"

These shortcut keys are included in the documentation. This change is
to help users discover the shortcuts for these operations (which users
want to be able to do quickly for converting between bases).

The current gcalctool tooltips all have the shortcuts (except for base

gnome-games, chess: Strings accidentally not marked for translation

2011-04-07 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi,

I just enabled some strings [1] for translation in Chess (gnome-games)
that were accidentally unmarked for translation. These strings are:
"Save Chess Game"
"Load Chess Game"
"PGN files"
"All files"

These strings are the same as they were in 2.32 and most .po files
still have the translations there. Some po files have the
translations commented out and will need to be re-enabled for 3.0.1.

Thanks,

GNOME Games split

2012-10-09 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi all,

The GNOME Games module split is now complete; this means that the
gnome-games git repository is obsolete and shouldn't be committed to.
There will be individual releases for each of the games from 3.7
onwards.

The new git repositories are

glchess -> gnome-chess*
glines-> five-or-more
gnect   -> four-in-a-row
gnibbles-> gnome-nibbles
gnobots2-> gnome-robots
gnome-sudoku-> gnome-sudoku
gnomine -> gnome-mines
gnotravex   -> gnome-tetravex
gnotski -> gnome-klotski
gtali   -> tali
iagno   -> iagno
lightsoff -> lightsoff
mahjongg-> gnome-mahjongg
quadrapassel-> quadrapassel
swell-foop  -> swell-foop

Bugs are still tracked in the gnome-games module for now, but they
will be migrated to new bugzilla products once they are ready.

Aside from that it's business as usual!

Changes to glChess [Gnome Games]

2006-12-25 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi all,

There have been a few changes to glChess to fix some important
features that are tripping up users.

1. A pop-up dialog has been added that tells the user what needs to be
installed to enable 3D. (#389371)
2. AI difficulty has been added - the default AI is GNUchess which is
very hard to beat (#388259)

The result is:

1. There is a large string describing why 3D does not work by default
which needs to be translated.
2. There are a number of new short strings describing game difficulty.
3. Also an unused dialog has been removed to avoid it being
unnecessarily translated; this has removed.

Anyone who tries it out please tell me if you think the AI difficulty
is appropriate, you can change the options in the ai.xml file (copy
one to ~/.gnome2/glchess).

Subject: String modifications for bug #409739
To: gnome-doc-list@gnome.org, games-list@gnome.org

Hi all,

To fix a crash in Gnome Sudoku I need to change some formatting
characters from '%s' to '%(n)s'. I've written a script to
automatically update this (and fix some incorrect %d entries) - can I
commit this to the 2.18 branch? I guess this will look like a string
break but none of the content of the messages has been changed.

These are the affected strings:
"%s puzzle" -> "%(n)s puzzle"
"%s puzzles" -> "%(n)s puzzles"
'Generated %s puzzle' -> 'Generated %(n)s puzzle'
'Generated %s puzzles' -> 'Generated %(n)s puzzles'
"%s year" -> "%(n)s year"
"%s years" -> "%(n)s years"
"%s month" -> "%(n)s month"
"%s months" -> "%(n)s months"
"%s week" -> "%(n)s week"
"%s weeks" -> "%(n)s weeks"
"%s day" -> "%(n)s day"
"%s days" -> "%(n)s days"
"%s hour" -> "%(n)s hour"
"%s hours" -> "%(n)s hours"
"%s minute"->  "%(n)s minute"
"%s minutes" -> "%(n)s minutes"
"%s second" -> "%(n)s second"
"%s seconds" -> "%(n)s seconds"

Yes the script automatically changes the translations. No additional
work is required from any translator. I want permission before
committing so anyone actively translating will know why the .po files
have been modified. This is a string break with no additional action
required.

You can see the patch here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409739

Note this is a critical bug as in 2.18 languages such as Arabic cause
Sudoku to crash.

GCalctool 2.24 branched

2008-09-29 Thread Robert Ancell
Apologies for the lack of announcement; this was my first branch made
for GNOME...

GCalctool has (was) branched for GNOME 2.24!

2.24 stable bugfixes are occuring on the branch:
http://svn.gnome.org/svn/gcalctool/branches/gnome-2-24/

The focus for 2.24 is fixing bugs and performance problems in calculations:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=gcalctool&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&target_milestone=2.24.0

2.25 development is occurring on the head:
http://svn.gnome.org/svn/gcalctool/trunk/gcalctool/

The foci for 2.25 are:
- Continuation in simplifying and documenting the code base
- Improving the user interface (making financial functions have
dialogs, adding colours to the UI, using unicode characters in
display, e.g. unicode multiply symbol)
- Adding new functions (more inverse functions, programming mode,
conversion functions)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=gcalctool&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&target_milestone=2.26.0

Happy hacking!

String / UI break request for gnome-software 3.20

2016-09-12 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi all,

I'd like to backport [1] a feature from gnome-software 3.21 to 3.20. This
is the authorization feature that allows plugins to prompt the user for
login credentials. We are using this in Ubuntu 16.04 and would like to
backport the feature to reduce our delta. Richard Hughes (gnome-software
maintainer) is OK with the feature being backported as long as the string
break is allowed.

I think this break is not an issue for users as I've done the following:
- The feature is not used by any of the default gnome-software plugins. So
existing users will not see any change.
- I've backported all the current trunk translations for the new strings.

Is this OK?

String additions to GNOME Software 3.28 for purchase errors

2018-03-09 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi,

I'd like to request a string freeze break for a change in GNOME Software
[1].

The change is to add new error messages when purchasing apps. This code is
not currently used by any in-tree plugins so is unlikely to be seen by any
current user.

The strings are:
"Unable to purchase %s: authentication was required"
"Unable to purchase %s: authentication was invalid"
"Unable to purchase %s: no payment method setup"
"Unable to purchase %s: payment was declined"
"Unable to purchase %s"

Thanks,
--Robert

Sting freeze request for gnome-control-center gnome-3-38 branch

2021-02-08 Thread Robert Ancell via gnome-i18n
There is a feature added in gnome-control-center 40 to add support for
showing both IPv4 and IPv6 DNS settings. The existing code didn't show the
IPv6 settings. This adds two new translatable strings "DNS4" and "DNS6"
which show when a connection has both IPv4 and IPv6 DNS configured.

Requesting a string freeze break to add this feature.

Yes, happy to add it to 3.38.5 to give time for translation.
