There also are discussions to create a Circle/ group on Gitlab, which 
could eventually supersede the World/ group.
The Circle committee still needs to meet the Release Team to agree on 
that.

PasswordSafe (very) short string freeze

PasswordSafe is going to observe a very short string freeze. This short 
period is mostly due to debian freeze coming.

The string freeze starts now and will end on February 7, 23:00 UTC.

Let's not be too hard on them, even if the warning is a tad late they 
at least observe a string freeze and are volunteers :)

Authenticator string freeze

Hello translators,

Bilal and Maximiliano have been working on an overhaul of 
Authenticator. It's a complete rewrite from Python to Rust, with quite 
a few new strings. It has been released already, but Bilal will make a 
point release for translations and bugfixes in a week.


A special note: the project used to be on weblate, so we definitely 
recommend a careful review of all the strings including the existing 
ones, which may not follow the standards your team has!

Not that I know of. According to https://wiki.gnome.org/Forty the UI freeze 
starts on February 13, and the string freeze starts on February 27th.

Maybe this has to do with the branch DL tracks? Claude or Alexandre might know 
better.

Upcoming point release for Fragments

Password Safe has now entered in its string freeze week before the 
release. If you had already translated it before yesterday, make sure 
to double check no new string have landed since your last translation 
(there shouldn't be any, but you never know).


Translations are due on November 29 so the release can be performed on 
November 30.

Pitivi release in the very near future (or not)

Pitivi maintainers have released 2020.09 version a few days ago. I 
reached out to the maintainer to ask them to notify us next time, and 
asked if they expected a .1 release anytime soon.

Release of Solanum in about a month

Hello translators,

Solanum’s maintainer Christopher Davis (@brainblasted on Gitlab) 
expects to release Solanum in about a month.


They believe Solanum is feature-complete and don't expect to make new 
release soon after that, so let's not miss the slot we have to 
translate it :)
They also don’t think the strings will change by then. I’m asking 
them to warn us if it does.

There seems to be 1112 strings to translate for the Flatpak software 
only.


Those strings are in files in the PO format. I’m not quite sure about 
how (often) those are generated, but if we need adjustments, I’m 
quite sure we can ask them a few things. Let’s not forget Alexander 
Larsson is working on it :)

As of today, DL is used to follow the translation status of several 
projects it can't commit on. The two examples I have in mind are the 
freedesktop and Librem 5 ones. To commit our translations, someone 
manually opens a MR on the Gitlab, and then reports to their 
translation coordinator. It’s far from ideal, but still preferable to 
a completely manual process in my opinion.

Appdata translation

We do translate applications interfaces and documentation, but we do 
not translate their appdata.
Given there are longer-term plans to build-up a flatpak-based kind of 
app store, should we not translate appdata as well (as in: application 
description, screenshot captions, maybe even screenshots themselves)?


Do we have everything we need infrastructure-wise to do it? Is this 
something we intend to do at some point? And if yes, what do we need to 
move ahead?

There is more or less two level of translation supports in D-L.
The first one is "simply" a status of current module translations + 
updated pot and merged po files ready for translators to use.

That's the case for all freedesktop modules.

The second is ability to commit translations from the Web interface. 
We do not support Github currently for this feature.


So I would say that hosting translation stats would be fine IMHO. 
Adding commit support is another story, even if it should not be so 
much effort (to be evaluated, still).

retrieve and submit po files manually.


I know Flatpak doesn’t necessarily want to be too associated with 
GNOME so it doesn’t shy out other systems.
Still, a translation provided by one of the major DE could be an huge 
improvement to today’s situation.


I have two questions here:
* Would we accept to take responsibility of Flatpak’s translations?
* Is it technically feasible for DL to handle the translations of a 
project stored on GitHub?


If we answer "yes" to both, I would offer to Flatpak’s team to take 
care of their translations, which they may or may not accept.

Automating commits for Librem 5 related software

On DL the commits for the Librem 5 related modules need to be committed 
manually.
These modules are hosted on Purism’s Gitlab. The maintainers of these 
modules are easy to reach, and I can ask them for accounts or anything 
we need.


Can anyone tell me which are the requirements to set-up automated 
commits?

Sound Recorder release in a week from now

Sound Recorder was moved out of Core applications, hence doesn’t 
strictly follow the release schedule for 3.38.
The maintainer still tries their best to stick as close as possible to 
the release date.


They introduced a few string changes over the past few days. We have 
one week to translate it before Sound Recorder is released.

Fragments release on September 13

Fragments maintainer Felix Häcker notified me they are planning to 
release Fragments this sunday, September 13.

Please note I also opened a MR to add translators comments on some 
ambiguous strings (e.g. whether "Upload" is a verb or a noun).
This won't change any string, but I advise proofreaders to read the 
whole document to make sure they don't have erroneous past translations.

Upcoming Geary release

A friendly reminder that Geary, the mail app, is following the Core 
release cycle. Its maintainers froze the UI and the strings so we can 
translate it.


Although this application is filed under "Extras" in DL, you may want 
to prioritize its translation and proofreading once you are done with

Games string freeze

Games is a non-core application (filed under Extras in Damned Lies). As 
such it is not strictly bound to the same schedule as core apps, but 
its maintainer does its best to follow it.


Games is now frozen and will follow th 3.38 release schedule. You can 
work on the translation and proofreading for it as well.

I can't speak for Bilal, who is the maintainer of the application, but 
as someone involved in translations this doesn't seem right.


I remember the few emails about the situation with Croatian 
translations and coordinator. I think it's not up to app maintainers to 
bypass the translation process. I believe the Croatian team's situation 
should be sorted out. Unfortunately, I can't help you with that.


I leave it up to Alexandre Franke and/or Claude Paroz to confirm what 
I'm saying, as I am a simple translator.
