As you may know, in Sugar we are currently using e-speak for TTS, but I can't claim to be very happy with it's voice quality or the ease of creating new voices to cover the indigenous or minority languages that are so important to us.. On the other hand, size is a big deal for our XO users, so ti's a trade-off we are currently willing to make. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter as GCompris and Sugar share a lot of common goals and challenges. Hi, I made a test a few years ago and was not satisfied. For GCompris our requirements are: - A very good quality, GCompris is used in schools. - Support for many language and some rare one - Multi-platform - Free Software. Concerning the size, yes it takes room but nowadays disk are cheap. On GNU/Linux, users can just pick the voice set they are interested in. Bruno. Bruno, Have you estimated the size of the localized ogg files versus (for example) using a smallish voice synthesizer like e-speak or even festival? Just wondering because it seems to me like the ogg files could add up quickly. cjl ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n
GCompris translation update / Release delayed again
Hi, Thanks a lot for your efforts, I again got some request from translators to delay the release. I set the new date to Sunday 18th. Since there are usually a lot of feedback after a new release, we can expect to have to make a new one within a month or so. Thus it is a good opportunity to work on an outdated translation. Think also to publish in your language community the following page on which we describe what is needed to create a voice set for GCompris. http://gcompris.net/wiki/Voices_translation PS: It make me think that I should maintain a web page showing the result of our check_missing_voices.pl tool for each language.
