 Hello,

would it be possible to show word counts instead of strings in Damned
Lies? String count is not very useful for a translator: some packages
contain hundreds of 1-word strings, and others just a few long
paragraphs. I know strings are easier to count [1], but counting words
isn't that big a deal either. Adapt to the user, not to the computer,
 right?

Would anyone else be interested in such a feature?

This an already reported enhancement wish:

Great, but is somebody actually working on it?
Why nobody? ;)
Who should?
How to help?

would it be possible to show word counts instead of strings in Damned
 Lies? ...

Please not in stead off. How about just next to ?
I agree it would be a nice feature, but we will still also need the string
count. A string is the natural unit for the size of .po file, so we will
still be needing it when comparing the stats for the file to those for the
same file on other servers, say in the different distributions file servers.
