Seahorse status page showing the seahorse-0.8 branch

2006-07-15 Thread Yavor Doganov
It seems that the status pages are showing the seahorse-0.8 branch,
however releases are being made out of HEAD. At least on my GNU
distribution, the version is 0.9.1.

Could someone please clarify this, and correct the pages, if possible?

This branch was discussed more than a year ago:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2005-May/msg00033.html
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2005-May/msg00035.html

So, either the seahorse-0-8 branch is still what should be translated,
or someone didn't do what they promised at that time.

There will be at least one more stable release from the
0.8.x branch. The 0.9.x branch is _not_ stable and is therefore not
recommended for translation or day-to-day use.

I would like to know what release of what distribution you are using?
That distribution should probably review their package management if
you're using an official release. If not (which is what I suspect is
the casedebian unstable, mandriva cooker, ubuntu edgy), then we
should not worry about it just yet. We will get around to translating
the 0.9 branch soon enough.

A stable release of 0.9.x will be released no sooner than 6 months
from now. We will be switching our translation effort to HEAD in a
few months, when it's time to do so. I'm sure it will be in time for
a complete translation to be available by the time a stable release
is made.

I hope I have clarified this issue. Please understand that I _do_
appreciate your input on branches (or any other matter) and would like
to hear from you when you see something you think is not okay.

Maybe this incident is a sign that we might need a split in our HEAD
statuspage...(which would mean maintainer hell, so probably not).

Kind regards,

Debian testing, which will become stable in December (it has 0.9 while
unstable has 0.9.1, but it will propagate to testing). In case you
haven't announced your plans officially you might want to contact the
Debian Developer Jose Carlos Garcia Sogo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, since if
you as upstream declare that 0.9.x is not a stable version, it
shouldn't be in Etch. He might be aware of this, though.

Thank you for your message.

[Note: I'm not a Seahorse translator. The reason why I asked on the
list is that a colleague complained why it is not translated. I
noticed that the pages are showing the seahorse-0.8 branch and thought
that most translators are using them anyway and that is the reason.]

Sorry, missed this earlier.

Seahorse 0.9.x is still undergoing a lot of changes, and no stable
releases have been made as yet. The translators may find this frustrating.

I had assumed that the i18n team would prefer to work on 0.8.x, but
there may be reasons that I'm unaware of to start widespread work on HEAD.

Cheers,
Nate
