If you look at the wiki[0] articles[1] on the topic you will see that Microsoft has opted for the term Recycle Bin in English (GB unsure about US) in order to avoid the unfamiliarity of terms, also a direct translation of Recycle Bin has been used in the cy_GB (Cymraeg) translation Bin Ailgylchu. When referring to trash itself I believe it best to use the term rubbish and when referring to the folder or bin of rubbish it should be a Rubbish Bin similar to the Ubuntu en_GB guildeines[2]. So I think when wastebin is beeing used, it's ok. trash/wastebin are the most used terms, deleted files, which is now used by Ubuntu normally means the *list* of files which are deleted, while trash means the *place* where they reside before real deletion/shreddering. en_GB translation of trash
As I'm sure everyone knows, Ubuntu currently change Wastebasket to Deleted Items. Currently, I'd rather have cross-DE (and distro) support on a term to use for trash, including GNOME, KDE, XFCE and so on.
