possibly related - i remember this from last yaer:

where "this thread" is:
https://www.fsfla.org/pipermail/linux-libre/2023-March/thread.html#3507

i could supply a binary of linux-libre < 6.1 for parabola, if that would help
isolate the problem - maybe there is a also still an older deb package for
trisquel to try

there is another relevant tid-bit that Edgar did not mention here -
parabola's linux-libre behaves the same; so that reasonably eliminates any
peculiarities of the distro - it is probably a kernel configuration issue

Edgar - you did not answer my question on the parabola forum - namely:

> have you tried other kernels? - try linux-libre-vanilla and see if that works

linux-libre-vanilla is configured differently than linux-libre and the others -
also, what about the parabola LiveISO, does that boot? - if there is any
difference, that could point to a clue (different versions, different configs)

Hi there, it appears you've reached the wrong mailing list - this one
isn't for the kernel. The correct one can be found at
https://linux-libre.fsfla.org. However, it's probably not useful to
start another one there. As a case in point, I've already sought
information from yet another separate location. Having this
conversation spread out over many places might not be useful.

[GNU-linux-libre] Differences between Trisquel's kernel and linux-libre for i915 (video)

2024-03-03 Thread Edgar Lux via gnu-linux-libre
Hello.

I got a recommendation to reach out to the linux-libre mailing list on
Parabola's forum. Sorry for cross-posting (this is mostly a copy from a post on
Trisquel).

I have this system:

https://labs.parabola.nu/attachments/1587
(Intel Corporation Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics Controller).

I am able to boot Trisquel with video and HDMI (which sounds great), but the
same system with linux-libre 6.7 from FSFLA
(https://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/pool/main/f/freesh-archive-keyring/freesh-archive-keyring_1.1_all.deb)
stops half-way into the init process (after GRUB).

When using the kernel from Trisquel's repository, lspci shows:

Kernel driver in use: i915
Kernel modules: i915

Now, I am wondering what is going on. Why is the kernel from FSFLA not doing
the same thing?

On Trisquel's forum, jxself mentioned that there may be different reasons and
may need more information. Let me know if I should stay there or continue here.
Thanks.
