Auto complete in the checking register num field.

2003-12-10 Thread Chris Walden

I am more of a gnucash user than a developer, so please accept my apologies if this is not the right forum.  It's a feature suggestion, and I didn't want to report it as a bug.  This seemed the best place to bring it up.

In the check register several of the fields will autocomplete when you begin typing.  In the num field it does not-- which makes sense because the numbers will be unique.  However, with debit cards it is common to have transactions that have no number, but are identified as VISA.  It would be a convenient feature if the num field autocomplete for any alpha entry.

I would have to dig to see how feasible this is.  Someone might have a quick and easy answer.

It would require changing the field type.. note that there are already
special keybindings for the number field to allow you to easily
choose the next number. For example, typing + will give you the next
number in the sequence. Adding the auto-complete might be relatively
challenging, but honestly I dont know.

Second, you can always file a Request For Enhancement at bugzilla.
There is a special setting for enhancement requests.

Posting here is good for discussion, but a report should still
be entered in bugzilla so it is not forgotten.
