Do you have any memorized reports that are very simple to process, say a
balance report for a small number of accounts?  Are those slow to open too?

David,
Christopher is referring to a thread in which windows users reported that
gnucash was imposing a substantial delay on the first run report. This is
different from the general problem of slow report loading, I believe.
As for the delay,  I have not seen anyone say that they have a fix.

Re: Price Retrieval Failure

2018-01-23 Thread David T. via gnucash-user
David,
I know how to extract that information.
My point is that it should be made readily available to a user ***from within
gnucash***.
This is especially true given that it is possible for F::Q to work in one
scenario (i.e., at the command line), but not the other. I will also note that
there are many instances where a user has multiple versions of F::Q on their
systems, with one version running at the command line, and the other in
gnucash.
So, really, for reliable debugging, you need to know exactly what gnucash
thinks it is using.

Documentation isn't the answer here, since F::Q is a separately maintained
project.

Some of that information is already available.  I know that the F::Q version
appears in the console if GnuCash is started from the command line.  There are
also instructions somewhere in the WIKI (I think) to run F::Q as a stand-alone.
Perhaps the answer is to have better documentation (which is dear to the
hearts of some of us ;-) )

Derek,

This experience makes it clear to me that it would be nice if Gnucash had some
way of showing F::Q information to the end user, like a screen showing the
version installed, and maybe having buttons to trigger the various gnc- scripts
and show the output. This would make debugging just a tad easier... (Note that
I am not asking for better error messages, which certainly would be nice, but
not likely, since finance quote isn't Gnucash).

I did edit the environment file.

This experience makes it clear to me that it would be nice if Gnucash had some

Re: Reports very slow to open

2018-01-23 Thread David Carlson
There has been a long standing problem with reports that need to process a
lot of records being slow to open for most every release in the 2.6 series
in Windows, if I recall. However, if release 2.6.19 is now slow even with
simple reports, that is a new issue. I think that the upcoming 3.0 series
will be substantially improved.

Do you have any memorized reports that are very simple to process, say a
balance report for a small number of accounts? Are those slow to open too?

Re: Installation on Windows 10

2018-01-23 Thread David Carlson
Glad you were able to resolve your write issue. Why your AV is that
sensitive, I am not sure. Did you have to whitelist all the other programs
that you use regularly?

Anyway, your comment about GnuCash doing unnecessary things like repeatedly
asking for random numbers in Windows is interesting. I wonder if a
developer would suggest creating a bug report for that.

Did you update the environment file again after the upgrade? The update

Hello,

I recently upgraded from 2.6.16 to 2.6.19 on my Mac (OSX 10.13.2). In the

for the Alphavantage key, added the same key to

changed all my stocks to use other:alphavantage, and I was able to retrieve

Reports very slow to open

2018-01-23 Thread Christopher Stubbs
Like Ron Burek (7 Jan 2018) I am running Gnucash 2.6.19 on Windows 10 pro,
fully updated.
When you try to open any report, transaction report, profit & loss etc, Gnucash
goes into a long time wait mode with the blank report tab open, typically about
3 or 4 minutes, before the report actually opens. Once you have any report open
then running another one is no problem.
If you try to do anything else in Gnucash while you are waiting for the report
to open you get the message "Gnucash is not responding" in the top ribbon and
everything greys out.
This is all totally reproducible every time, not just occasionally.
This seems to have started to happen with 2.6.19 and the latest Windows 10
update (KB4056892 in early January). I don't know if this is just coincidence.
Anybody got any ideas about a fix?

Thanks

Rick,

I can't speak for the developers, but I haven't heard anyone raise this
before, so I don't think it's on anyone's agenda.

That said, you might look at saving the file in SQL and using a database
query to extract the data you seek.

Hi,

First time posting to this list. I've been using GNUCash for several
years now. Currently on a Lunbuntu computer, using GNUCash version
2.6.12. I use it for 4 different businesses, and aside from having no
inventory function (I track that in a spreadsheet), it serves my
purposes quite well. So, first off, thank you for having this program.
It does a great job and is pretty flexible in general.

I wanted to know if there was a plan for an export of the various lists
like vendor, customer, employee, etc. I see where they can be imported,
but no ability to export them. I've tried some of the solutions of
creating a transaction report, but I've not be able to get that to
include fields like addresses, phone #s, etc. Just the company name.

Related to that, it would be nice to be able to do a list report, which
could be used to export those same lists, a report that would allow for
listing all the fields in the different lists.

So, are there any plans for this feature? Thank you!

Hi Rick,

I'm not at my computer but from memory you can use the Customer or Vendor
Summary. Select the required fields using the report options, then use
Ctrl-A to select everything, then copy and paste into a spreadsheet.

Your account currency is R.
Your report currency is $.
Your data file has no R/$ price information. That's why.

Edit option, change report to R.

Hi Michael,

My guess from your screenshot is that you have a currency issue. Looks like
the transactions are in R but the report is totalling to $

not sure how to suggest fixing this, beyond checking that your default currency
and locale and each account all match.
