You may also want files from .../report/report-system, in particular
commodity-utilities.scm.

I forgot which OS you have.  On Ubuntu (local build) they are in
/usr/local/share/gnucash/scm/gnucash/report/standard-reports

I think it is one file (if you are talking about the non-eguile one):
balance_sheet.scm  (try searching your installed software location).

The eguile version is up one level from there.

Re: [GNC] GNC] Chart of Accounts sort order in v3.2 - Help

2018-09-04 Thread Stan Brown
I can confirm that the change did NOT happen between 2.x and 3.2. I
have 2.6.19, and when I click on Amount Name, in the Accounts tab, I get
only the choice of alphabetical and reverse alphabetical. GTK3 has
seemed like a step backwards in user convenience, in several matters,
but this is not one of them. (I don't blame the GC developers for
keeping current with GTK; I blame the GTK developers.)

I understand, Alan, that you don't want to spend time entering account
codes. But it would not be just for the sorting of the Accounts view.
You can also use the account code, just like the name, when entering
transactions in the registers. (That's true in 2.6.19; I haven't tried
3.x because so many problems have been reported with that version and
Windows operating system. Hopefully they'll be fixed in 3.3.)

Re: [GNC] Finance Quotes Using Yahoo json

2018-09-04 Thread Dan Nelms
Thanks Michael for your comments about using Yahoo_json for some of your
security quotes. My needs are also very mild, but they number more than 4.

I am running GnuCash version 3.2, Finance::Quote 1.47 (Strawberry) on a
Windows 10 machine.

I tried using Yahoo_json with the GnuCash security editor and each time
I get the "could not get quotes for the following" message. I tried
2 mutual funds, 2 NYSE stocks and 1 NASDAQ stock. They all failed. I
tried closing and restarting Gnucash just to be the changes in the
security editor got loaded, still all failures. Yahoo_json is either not
working for me or I am doing something wrong. Damn, I was hoping for an
easy solution.

Alphavantage works fine but only for the first 4 securities.

Re: [GNC] Chart of Accounts sort order in v3.2 - Help

2018-09-04 Thread Alan Maddocks
Hi David,

Thank you once again for your help with this.

Using your link, I have downloaded GnuCash v2.6.6, sorted the Accounts in the
original order and added in the Account Code data. The EDIT – Renumber sub
accounts menu option does add sequential numbers to the sub accounts, but based
on the alphabetic order instead of the original order, so I had to adjust
these. It really didn’t take very long and I am all set up now for version 3.2.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Alan.

Hi David,

Thank you for your prompt reply to my query.

I can add account codes and sort on them. However, that involves a certain
amount of additional work which wasn’t necessary previously.

I just don't understand why I am now (with version 3.2) unable to retain the
sort order in which the Accounts were originally entered (as I could previously
using version 2.6.6).

I am no expert, and I am not a developer, but if I had to guess, I would guess
that the change from GTK2 to GTK3 forced this change. While the impact in this
specific case may have been unintentional, the overall change was necessary to
keep GnuCash in sync with the underlying GTK platform that GnuCash uses.
Personally, it only took me at most an hour or two to encode my file, with
perhaps about 100 accounts in it.

Is this a bug or has the functionality been changed deliberately? Also, is it
possible to download a version of GnuCash where the accounts can be listed in
the original order.
e.g. version 2.6.6

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/2.6.6/

I believe that there is a feature that will auto number your accounts for you;
you might downgrade to 2.6.6, get the sort you want, run that feature to get
your accounts numbered in your preferred order, and then upgrade. Your accounts
can then be sorted by ACCTNum.

HTH,
David

Thank you for your help,

Alan.

I'd suggest using account codes to set your account order, and then add that
column to your COA and support on it.

2. Alphabetic descending

I have always used no 3. The order in which the Accounts were originally entered

I have recently purchased a new laptop and have downloaded GnuCash version 3.2.
It seems that there are now only two sort order options, Alphabetic ascending
and descending.

Please would you let me know if it's possible to sort and display the Accounts

possible to download a version of GnuCash where this is possible?

[GNC] UK Shares and Yahoo as JSON

2018-09-04 Thread Eric Coates

Hi

Context: I’m running GnuCash 2.16.7 on Ubuntu 1604 with Finance-Quote 1.47.

Like many others I have been using AlphaVantage as the source for my
online share price retrievals and been experiencing difficulties.
Following up on hints in the mailing list I have tried using
Single/Yahoo as JSON as an alternative source.

Having set the source as Single/Yahoo as JSON for all my shares and
clicking Get Quotes I got very rich! Unfortunately, a quick
investigation revealed that, although my European shares had received
(what looked like) good quotes, the prices received for my UK shares
come back 100 times too big.

As I have relatively few shares and usually only update the prices at
the end of the month it is not totally ridiculous to input UK share
prices by hand. But it would be so much nicer to be able to do it
automatically.

Assuming that others are having the same problem with UK shares and
Yahoo as JSON (are they?), is there a known (and hopefully simple) way
to correct the Yahoo prices?

I wonder if there is a possible alternative: It has been hinted here
that GnuCash 3 has a much improved CSV importer and (if I understand
properly) it is possible to input share prices using it. It would be
possible to get the list of shares and their prices from my broker
account. Is the GnuCash 3 importer documented (I can't find anything) so
as to make the import easy? (But that means upgrading and, again, my
ignorance means I need simple instructions.)

As always, my thanks to the developers and the documentation team and
other users of this list for their time and efforts

Best wishes

Eric

PS: Please forgive this aside:

On the Securities Editor page, for me, it is not possible to un-tick the
box in the Get Quote column. Should it be?

We do use perl only for F::Q, and that check is the first part of seeing if
F::Q is available. We should probably reduce it to a PINFO, it confuses a lot
of users.

Personally, it only took me at most an hour or two to encode my file, with
perhaps about 100 accounts in it.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/2.6.6/

I believe that there is a feature that will auto number your accounts for you;
you might downgrade to 2.6.6, get the sort you want, run that feature to get
your accounts numbered in your preferred order, and then upgrade. Your accounts
can then be sorted by ACCTNum.

Before trying to parse a csv file, make sure all possible line endings to "LF"
(internally).

So regardless of what line endings the file has, our parser will only see
"LF", the "unix" format or what C++ libraries expect by default.

Re: [GNC] Chart of Accounts sort order in v3.2 - Help

2018-09-04 Thread Alan Maddocks
Hi David,

Thank you for your prompt reply to my query.

I can add account codes and sort on them. However, that involves a certain
amount of additional work which wasn’t necessary previously.

I just don't understand why I am now (with version 3.2) unable to retain the
sort order in which the Accounts were originally entered (as I could previously
using version 2.6.6).

Is this a bug or has the functionality been changed deliberately? Also, is it
possible to download a version of GnuCash where the accounts can be listed in
the original order.
e.g. version 2.6.6

Thank you for your help,

Alan.

I'd suggest using account codes to set your account order, and then add that
column to your COA and support on it.

The file html-utilities.scm worked a treat, thanks.

I've also cloned the gnucash git repository and compiled. The scroll

Thanks for the feedback. The exact source of the problem is in the difference
in line-endings. GnuCash currently expects "LF" (the C++ default), but some
files can have "CRLF" (Windows) or "CR" (Macos) as line ending.

I have made changes to the code to fix this for gnucash 3.3.

Ok, thanks. Unfortunately that's a very vague error message :(
This will need more experimentation then. But we have a viable workaround for

I am not particularly knowledgeable on unix sockets but I think it is
/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock (which does exist) so tried
/var/run/mysqld but to no avail.

In the trace file I see
CRIT  [GncDbiBackend::session_begin()] Unable
to connect to database 'gnucash'
as before.

Hmm, that was on the assumption the mysql unix socket would live there. Can
you verify this on your system ?

And if it doesn't work, what errors do you see in your trace file ? (You may
have to re-add your --filesystem=/tmp parameter to get a trace file)

That would be great. For Ubuntu the snap package would be preferable
but one can't have everything.
No I don't use Finance::Quote.  On startup I see
WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child
process “perl” (No such file or directory)
I thought that perl was only used for F::Q but I don't know much about
it. Is there anything you would like me to try?

I have tried
sudo flatpak override org.gnucash.GnuCash --filesystem=/etc/hosts:ro
but that does not fix it.

I am considering taking over maintenance of the flatpak manifest. That's also
how flathub envisions it should be. And it would allow us to make nightly
flatpaks in addition to release versions.

Colin, do you use online quote sources for prices ? I believe the
Finance::Quote module is also missing from flatpak.

Excellent, thanks for working that out. Specifying 127.0.0.1 works
for me too. I have updated the issue [1].
That means that for me the flatpak is a working solution. However,
given the fact there has been absolutely no feedback from the
maintainer on any of this I am not particularly hopeful that the
flatpak will be kept up to date, any more than the snap package has
been.

An interesting observation. This can be tested by adding --filesystem=/etc/
hosts:ro to the flatpak invocation.

My guess was the unix socket would not be available to the flatpak. Reading
the footnote on the flatpak Sandbox Permissions page http://docs.flatpak.org/
en/latest/sandbox-permissions-reference.html#f2 on the other hand suggests
what you also indicate: --share=network should give access to unix-sockets
(I'm not sure why flatpak makes that "abstract" Unix sockets though).

Re: [GNC] Gnucash Flatpak 3.2 Mysql issue

2018-09-04 Thread Adrien Monteleone
While --share=network should give you access to unix-sockets, I don’t think
that includes access to ‘/etc/hosts’ which lies outside of the sandbox
therefore, I’d suspect the reference to ‘localhost’ is not resolving, so only
the actual IP address will work.
