Take a deep breath, and relax.

Go to the Accounts tab.
Choose an account to move, right click and select Edit Account.
This opens a box. In mine, at the bottom right, is a box with a name
like "parent".
Find where the account should be in the account tree, and move it.
For example, you might put the Cheque account under "Assets".

Make sure its right, and save.

If you still get it wrong, you can move things again.

[GNC] Hitting ESC key wipes out work in QIF import

2019-03-11 Thread Art Chimes
I was nearly through importing many years of credit card transactions
(350kb) -- re-assigning Quicken categories to GnuCash accounts -- when
I accidentally hit the ESC key. I'm not sure what I was doing, but
probably I wanted to undo something and after decades of working on
Windows machines, the instinctive thing to do is hit ESC.

As I was nearing the end of two screens worth of incorrect accounts, I
hit ESC and the import window closed. POOF!

I'm pretty sure all my work is gone, but can someone confirm that?

Also, I'm pretty sure there is no way to disable this unfortunate
result of hitting ESC, but again, can someone confirm that?

I know nothing about coding, but would this be something that I could
propose as a fix ... say, a confirmation dialog?

Still slogging up the lower slopes of the GnuCash learning curve so
(1) I appreciate your help, and (2) please be gentle!

Thanks,
Art Chimes in Arlington, Virginia

How many quotes are you trying to download?

Re: [GNC] Uninstall GC

2019-03-11 Thread John Ralls
Dennis,

The error says that "make" is on root's path but not dennis's and that it's a
link to /usr/bin/cmake and that doesn't exist. That's a problem with your
system and you need to clean it up.

When `make uninstall` fails check to see if install_manifest.txt exists in the
build directory. If it doesn't then you'll have to uninstall GnuCash manually
as David explained. if it is there then you can run the command that make
uninstall would: `xargs rm < install_manifest.txt`.

Regards,
John Ralls

I agree it is not generally a problem, but I think it is worth
pointing out in case there are those here who did not realise the
potential risk. I also have never had an issue with a ppa, but if it
is built by a name I do not recognise then I would always have a look
at his/her profile in order to reasure myself. I had not come across
this guy before, but he does look ok, contributing to a number of
