Re: [GNC] Transaction matching on import

2019-07-08 Thread Patrick
Have you tried this?

In the next-to-last step of the CSV import wizard (the window is labeled
"Match Transactions"), double-click the transaction you want to manually
match and this will bring up a new window that will allow you to manually
match to an existing transaction.

One limitation of this approach seems to be that I am not able to update
the amount field of an existing transaction, as it doesn't give me the
option to match with an existing transaction that has a different amount
value, even if all of the other fields (including Transaction ID) are the
same. I am able to use this approach to update the description field of an
existing transaction, for example.

I am using GnuCash version 3.6.

Patrick

[GNC] gnucash 3.6 -- online price quotes retrieval not working

2019-07-08 Thread Bruno Barros
A while back my online quotes stopped working. I've gone through several
updates of gnucash and have kept finance::quote updated as well but I get
errors every time I try to update the security prices.
Anyone else still having this issue? Or have they found a solution I
haven't?

Thanks
Bruno

[GNC] How to update Finance::Quote

2019-07-08 Thread rsbrux via gnucash-user
If this is the wrong venue for this question, please refer me to the
correct one.

I am try to update my FInanace::Quote installation (under Ubuntu Studio
18.04) to the latest version (1.49).

First I performed:

cpan -D Finance::Quote

as recommended in https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/CPAN.

It indicated that my CPAN was also out of date, so I first updated CPAN.

I then ran "upgrade Finance::Quote" from the cpan interactive prompt.??
This appears to have failed, as the cpan command above still shows F::Q 1.47

The output of the upgrade attempt was quite long and the beginning
scrolled out of the terminal window.

Unfortunately, I am too ignorant to understand most of it.?? I have
posted below the tail-end, which appear to reflect the installation of
F::Q; preceeding parts appear to deal with (equally futile) attempts to
install or upgrade other modules.

I intentionally ran cpan with normal privileges from my normal user
account becaue I have read that suprivileges should only be needed to
install or update CPAN and can otherwise be dangerous.

Must I install as su??? Is there something else I am missing here?

[GNC] Gnucash bug

2019-07-08 Thread R. Victor Klassen
Perhaps this has been fixed. I’m using 2.6.21 for production.

Using SQLite I am expecting every transaction to hit disk immediately.

Saturday we had a power failure and lost about five days’ worth of transactions
including at least 10 invoices and three new customers.

I think I can reconstruct. But I wouldn’t expect this to have happened.

Re: [GNC] how to copy "Customers Overview" table for spreadsheet.

2019-07-08 Thread Greg Feneis via gnucash-user
Perhaps you could use the print function to produce a *.PDF of it, then
view it in a PDF viewer, and copy the table (use mouse cursor to select
text) from the PDF viewer?

I've had limited success with copying tables from PDF documents (win 7,
Adobe Reader to Word 2010 is typical) and pasting into other documents, but
it could work. Perhaps you could even paste it into a spreadsheet app?

Kind regards, Greg Feneis

Re: [GNC] how to copy "Customers Overview" table for spreadsheet.

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
The print function is disabled on that tab.

Even with it available, at best you’re going to get an ‘image’ pdf that still
has to be OCRd and that is notoriously difficult with images of tables. (though
there is some software out there that tries valiantly, it is still a trial and
error process)

Another option is a screenshot, but still has the OCR problem.

Otherwise, parsing the data file is probably the best bet until an export
function is written.

Adrien

Have you tried highlighting the report contents and pasting into a
spreadsheet? In Windows, I can run the Customer Summary report, press
CTRL-A, CTRL-C , open a spreadsheet, and press CTRL-V. The results are
reasonably sane. I haven't tried on a Mac recently, but ISTR that it worked
in a similar fashion there.

Re: [GNC] Fwd: how to copy "Customers Overview" table for spreadsheet.

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
David,

The OP was asking about the Customer Overview, not Customer Summary Report.

The Customer Summary Report doesn’t show the same info as the Customer
Overview. Notably, customer ID, address, and phone#. The overview is
essentially a table of *some* of the data for each customer like what might be
found if there were a way to export customers. (the same problem exists for
vendors)

GnuCash can import this data, but can’t export it.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] Gnucash bug

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Is your data file local or on a network? If a network, there might be something
that has interfered with the data being written. Also, be certain you’re
accessing the current file and not a 5 day old backup. (usually the case in
threads where users find data ‘missing’)

Re: [GNC] gnucash 3.6 -- reports -- "URL cannot be shown" - SOLVED

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Not sure I helped much as you pegged webkit2 from your first post.

However, you noted you had both webkit2gtk-3.0 & webkit2gtk-3.0-dev installed
but only webkit2gtk-4.0 and not webkit2gtk-4.0-dev. I understand installing
webkit2gtk-4.0-dev solved the problem, but I wonder if removing the
webkit2gtk-4.0 non-dev version instead would have accomplished the same thing.
That is, was webkit looking for a function in webkit2gtk-x.0-dev and defaulting
to looking at the highest version installed? (I’d suspect it was using
webkit2gtk-4.0 since it was there, and then not finding what it needed in
webkit2gtk-4.0-dev because it wasn’t installed) If you only had webkit2gtk-3.0
and webkit2gtk-3.0-dev installed, would it then work? (meaning the dependency
list is technically correct)

Adrien

Re: [GNC] Balance Sheet-PNL

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I wasn’t aware of that one.

There are two new reports with multi-period/comparison features in the Reports
> Experimental menu. (one each for Balance Sheet & Income Statement)

Otherwise, you could create a traditional multi-column report with the Balance
Sheet in one column and a P&L in the other.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] Moving invoice details to new invoice or job

2019-07-08 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Not that I’m aware of. I just poked around and couldn’t find anything like that
either.

Also, be aware that ‘jobs’ are not an additional level of categorization. They
should more properly be named ‘purchase orders’.

2019-07-08 Thread Harry G McGavran Jr
Hi Adrien --

You may be correct -- I can't really test that though as I
have other software that depends on webkit2gtk-4.0 that will
get removed if I remove the runtime library to test a gnucash
build that way.

But it seems you may very well be correct.

Perhaps you could use the print function to produce a *.PDF of it, then view
it in a PDF viewer, and copy the table (use mouse cursor to select
text) from the PDF viewer?

I've had limited success with copying tables from PDF documents (win 7,
Adobe Reader to Word 2010 is typical) and pasting into other documents, but
it could work. Perhaps you could even paste it into a spreadsheet app?

Oh. Sorry for the noise. I clearly misunderstood.

wrote:

Were those 5 days worth of transactions all entered together or over the 5
days? Do the transaction logs reflect the "lost" transactions? If so you can at
least recover them by playing the transactions back
https://www.sqlite.org/howtocorrupt.html might shed some insight on what
happened.
