Re: [GNC] Help with Export
Microsoft Windows likes users to save all their stuff in a sub directory of My Documents. That is actually the same as C:\users\[username]\My Documents\ . GnuCash suggests creating a subdirectory with a familiar name because it will fill up with backups as time passes. Often users have a different preference, possibly on a different hard drive, as long as it is not in any of the Windows system directories. Re: [GNC] Help with Export
It could be a permissions issue like Christopher Lam wrote. I just played around with the Export dialog on GnuCash 2.6.21 on Win 7 64. It appears GnuCash knows what extension to give the file based on the Data Format selection at the top of the dialog box. Mine was at .xml by default. I just tried to do a test save of my accounts' exports to C:\ (which win 7 doesn't allow), and it failed silently. Tried it again and same result. James Fuller, if you're using Win 10, it's possible that if you're attempting to save to C:\ Windows 10 isn't allowing it, and if you're using GnuCash 3.x, it's based on GTK3 (sp?) so it's not failing silently like my older version did, but it's not really giving you an appropriate error message either. It should be something like "saving in reserved location is forbidden" If so, you're going to want to select a place to store the accounts export file that's not at the very root of the hard drive. That is, not C:\. However, some folder on C:\ is OK. There's usually a folder where Windows computers encourage users to store their files, like C:\Users\James (replace James with whatever the user's name is.) Try saving there. Or, C:\Users\James\Desktop Kind regards, Greg Feneis On Sun, Jul 28, 2019 at 5:06 PM Adrien Monteleone < adrien.montele...@lusfiber.net> wrote: > I’m on a Mac, which doesn’t care about file extensions, but perhaps that > is what Windows was complaining about. Re: [GNC] Help with Export
I’m on a Mac, which doesn’t care about file extensions, but perhaps that is what Windows was complaining about. Despite the fact that the export is CSV (with custom delimiter) it saved it without an extension. If the Windows build does the same, this might be the cause of the error. Try giving your file a “.csv” extension. Re: [GNC] Help with Export
This may have something to do with Windows 10 permissions. It's restricting apps more and more with each update. [GNC] Help with Export
Hi, I'm trying to export my chart of accounts so that I can start a new set of books. After opening Gnucash I move to the File drop down menu. then choosing Export I get a screen that offers options. I choose export accounts. A screen pops up that wants ( i think ) the name of the file to be saved. In this case I'm using the name ' CruzersGnu19 '. I then select C: for the drive. when I accept Save As, I get an error message that says " there was an error saving the file" "invalid argument" Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I can't see what. Any help would be appreciated. James Fuller ps. I'm accustomed to using apple Ipads. I do a much better job of communicating on them. Grrr. I’ve recreated the file I started from earlier today, and then I went through the process of switching the transactions from asset accounts to corresponding liability accounts. I had made and corrected a number of errors the first time round, ending in the crash, but I got into the swing quickly this time, and all the changes went through without a problem, and without the crash. I hinted that the tab for one of the asset accounts had remained open after its deletion, but each time I deleted an account this afternoon the corresponding tab disappeared at once. I’ll post a bug report, but without a reproducible crash I realise this may not be very enlightening. This was an experimental file, copied from the definitive file. I’ve just made a fresh copy from the latter, and will try to repeat the process. Hmm, the stack is corrupted. There's no path between gnc_plugin_business_main_window_page_changed and gnc_split_register_get_current_trans, but both are called by gnc_plugin_page_ui_register_update. I tried to replicate the crash with a simple book and failed, the account deleted with no error. Please do file a bug, and if you can provide some more detail about reproducing it that might help. Re: [GNC] GC Crash Report
Just curious, Did you transfer all of the transactions in that asset account to the same liability account? (1:1 transfer) If so, you could have just deleted the asset account and GnuCash would have asked you where you wanted to move the transactions. (of course, the method you chose should work as well without a crash) I’m not 100% certain, but I think the devs would prefer crashes be reported on Bugzilla. You can upload your crash report there. Another thing that *might* be of use, do you have a backup copy where you could repeat the steps that led to the crash and reliably make it crash again? [GNC] GC Crash Report
I had just completed the editing of a number of transactions, transferring them from an asset account to a liability account by opening the asset account and changing each one in turn until the asset account was empty. I then deleted the (now empty) asset account, without closing the tab relating to the account. I’m not sure whether I clicked on the tab to check whether it was indeed empty, or whether it happened as I deleted the account. The report on the crash is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zczsz5xaw13djyn/GC-Crash-2019-07-27.txt?dl=0 I’m running GC 3.5 on iMac with Mac OS X High Sierra.
