Re: [GNC] [GNC-dev] Yahoo blocking GnuCash Email

2019-09-20 Thread D via gnucash-user
Perhaps it's time to look into ways to decouple our mailing list more fully
from nabble (which is where the biggest misunderstandings seem to originate
with regards to list subscriptions). Gnucash.org shouldn't suffer because of
nabble's practices.

We have had SPF forever.
I do admit that I've not yet set up DKIM for gnucash.org -- not sure why,
because I've had it set up for my other servers for years. But it is on
my to-do list.
DMARC Blah.

I've actually got a friend who works there and is looking into it. Still
don't know *why* we were blacklisted, but it's slowly coming back. A
bunch of the mail that was bouncing is now making it through.

Re: [GNC] [GNC-dev] Yahoo blocking GnuCash Email

2019-09-20 Thread Adrien Monteleone
That’s a bummer.

It could also be users who can’t read the unsubscribe instructions or don’t
follow them and then report the list as spam because they still get messages
after they ‘asked us’ to unsubscribe them.

I turned off the password reminder feature long ago, as I thought it was a bad
idea to send passwords via e-mail. It probably should be off by default. I
don’t get such messages for any other site - ever. I don’t understand why
mailman even offers it. One can always just reset their password if they forget
it or don’t manage their passwords.

The only other option I can think of to get this info to them would be to parse
the mailman db for the yahoo addresses and send to them personally. I would
include that they should preferably re-subscribe with a different mail provider
as no one knows when Yahoo will unblock the list again.

Regards,
Adrien

The best person to answer that question would be the PPA maintainer.

If you are logged in to launchpad and view the PPAs main page,
(https://ppa.launchpad.net/sicklylife) you should see e-mail contact info.

It looks like they are backporting GnuCash updates so I’d say there is a
possibility, though this would be a special build.

[GNC] Yahoo blocking GnuCash Email

2019-09-20 Thread Derek Atkins
Hi,

Starting around September 10, Yahoo appears to have started blocking
SMTP (email) originating at code.gnucash.org. This means that yahoo
users have been prevented from receiving any mail (including list mail
and bug mail), and worse, they've been blocked from sending mail *to*
the list as well (due to sender-verify blocking them because yahoo is
blocking us).

Unfortunately, this appears to be a "due to user complaints" blockage,
and Yahoo is pretty tight-lipped about why it actually is blocking.
This could be due to people flagging gnucash email as spam (which might
include the monthly password reminders), or it could be as stupid as
people receiving the email but never reading it. But like I said, Yahoo
won't tell me the source of the blockage.

I am hoping this will clear up on it's own. If not, I might need to
literally unsubscribe every yahoo user and then request each person to
re-subscribe themselves to the list (once email clears up).

I realize that no Yahoo users will actually *see* this email, but I'm
hoping they will eventually be able to google for gnucash email yahoo
problem or something like that and this email will pop up in a couple
days in the archives. Alternately, email will clean up and the queue
will get flushed.

If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

[GNC] Badly formed URL unknown-type

2019-09-20 Thread Uttam Chakravorty
Dear Geert,

In our GnuCash working directory I ran "cat *.log | grep 'Google' >
test.csv"

In a moment of contemplation I questioned if I am chasing down the wrong
rabbit hole? To go back a little, I have become so sure of GnuCash I
have become lazy about taking a milestone backup after every session. I
have no excuse as we do the books every 3-6 weeks so it was not really
too hard to do.

Anyway the long and the short of it is that this year I have only taken
milestones backups on 18/2/19, 25/4/19, 6/9/19 and 13/9/19 when I
spotted the 'Payable Ageing' anomaly.

I have now restored each of the above and I have to go back to the
18/2/19 backup before the error disappears.

I'm now ruminating about my next step. I switched my son's and wife's
business over to GnuCash on 13/9/2016. I wonder if it needs a thorough
audit. I'm not sure who to ask as it is not well supported by the
accountants even though it is the best double entry system I have come
across in 30yrs. I appreciate that from your point of view it is a
great deal more than that.

Hey ho, it is Friday evening. A Belgian beer is called for and then
perhaps inspiration may strike overnight.

My thanks to you, the team, and the community. As always, intervention
and advice will be gratefully received. I'm happy to do the digging
once I work out where to dig. The Lot viewer continues to hide from me.

Best Regards, Uttam
