[GNC] Can't find the file sometimes

2022-04-12 Thread Heide Wang
I just updated from my Gnucash 2.6 to 4.9. Where can I find the update
instruction for 4.9? I know the basic is same as the old 2.6. I kept two set
of account on Gnucash, sometime I can go to the file to switch account, but
sometime when I switch, it said " the file xx.Guncash file could not be
found, the file is in the history list, do you want to remove it?” I never
remove the file. I want to find out what did I do wrong?
I am using MOS Catelina 10.15.7

Thanks for the advise as always.

Heide

[GNC] Loss one of my file

2022-03-31 Thread Heide Wang
Hello,

I am a old Gnucash user since 2015, I just recently upgraded from 2.6 to 3.11
then to 4.9., and my IMac OS to Catalina 10.15.7. I thought after the upgrade
everything was working fine. I kept two sets of accounting date under different
name ( let’s said #1 and #2) They both works fine after the upgrade. But now
all the sudden, I can’t find one of the date file, everything Gnucash file I
open is the same set of date (#1) but I can't find the #2 file. Even one the
earlier file in my back up time machine (under the name of #2) opens to the
date of my #1 file. so where did my #2 date goes??? Is it lost forever?? is it
any way to recover? Any suggestions will be great appreciated.

[GNC] One of my account disappeared

2022-03-22 Thread Heide Wang
Hello,

I finally got a chance to upgraded my old version of Gnucash to 3 and to 4.9 as
some of you suggested. Everything looks and works fine. Thank you all.
But today when I look for one of my credit card account, Citibank Visa account,
I can’t find it. It was a sub-account listed under Liability before. it has
zero balance. Can someone tell me where to look and change the setting? Thanks
again.

[GNC] Split transaction

2022-01-21 Thread Heide Wang
I am going to try one more time before I give up regarding the split
transaction. Let’s say last month I paid from my checking account a credit card
balance of $500.00, the credit card charge was $200 for grocery, $300.00 for
two chairs. So I recorded a split transaction of debit grocery $200.00 and
furniture - 2 chairs $300.00. In the description column, I put "pay credit
card” for the parent split account , I put grocery on description column of the
sub grocery account, and put the “2 chairs” on the description column for the
furniture sub account. This month I paid my credit card balance of $700.00,
grocery 200.00 and Furniture- a bed for $500.00. I recorded another split
transaction same as last one except I put “ bed” in the description column of
the sub account furniture for $500.00. Here is my problem, on my furniture
account, on the description column only show pay credit card, did not show 2
chairs or a bed. What can I do to make the description to show up on the
account?

2022-01-18 Thread Heide Wang
Will,

Thank you very much for your detail instruction. I will update my Gnucash to 3,
and then to 4, and then to 4.9 as you instructed before I replace my computer.
The printing of certain account ledge page works fine while follow your
instruction. Thanks again.
Now I have another problem. when I use split transaction, for example, I paid
from my checking account of $300.00 to a credit card company for two
transaction charged in the credit card. one is grocery of $50.00 another one is
a chair for $250.00, so I did the split transaction of grocery and furniture
account. after I recorded the split transaction, the furniture account shows
250.00 but did not show it is for a chair. Did I do something wrong? why on the
split transaction it shows a chair but not on the furniture account ledge?

[GNC] couple questions

2022-01-17 Thread Heide Wang
Hello,

I have couple questions. I started using Gnucash in 2015 to keep basic
financial record of a trust account. I am using Gnucash 2.6.18 (I know it is
old version), and my mac operation system is 10.14.6. My computer is about 9
years old. Although everything is working fine now, but I know I need to
upgrade my computer soon. When I up grade my computer, I will download the
newest version of Gnucash. How can I transfer all the data to the newer version
of Gnucash?? I would like to get a step by step instruction so I wouldn’t loss
my old data.

My second question is there anyway to print the detail page of certain account
? For example, when I open my bank account page, it shows the list date of
deposit or withdraw, description, amount and balance line by line, Can I print
it for my paper record?

Thanks for the help.

Heide
