Is there any way of doing this?

Re: [GNC] Reports not displaying.

2023-10-04 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user
John,Reports in Flatpak version 5.3 stopped working for me on 22 Sept even the
new release 5.4 would not work on my PC, but both releases still work on my
laptop with no issues running the same OS.
PC setupOS - Debian 12, cinnamonGPU Card - Nvida GTX 980 TiGPU driver: nvidia
v: 470.182.03
WebKitgtk - 2.40.5-1~debr12u1
Reinstalling GnuCash did not help, I had a timeshift restore point the day
prior and it worked, then flatpak updated 3 packages later in the day and
reports stopped working.I thought it maybe flatpak updates and removed the 3
packages from my pc but this did not help.

as a note: I then worked out how to manually build and install 5.4.1 from
source on my PC following the GnuCash guidelines on wiki,  and now the reports
work.

Since releasing GnuCash 5.4 we've gotten 3 bug reports (see below) about
report tabs failing to display anything.  Two of the three are for the flatpak
distribution of GnuCash 5.4 and running

      WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 flatpak run org.gnucash.GnuCash

works around the problem and allows reports to display normally. Both users
have Nvidia GPUs, one quite old. The third report says its for GnuCash 5.2 and
the reporter hasn't yet provided any details. The second reporter also
installed Gnome Web, aka Epiphany, via Flathub and reported that it has the
same symptoms.

For reference GnuCash 5.3's flatpak used Gnome Runtime 43 with WebKitGtk 2.37,
GnuCash 5.4's is Gnome Runtime 44 with WebKitGtk 2.39, and the current Epiphany
flatpak is runtime 45 with WebKitGtk 2.42.

In addition to flatpaks it seems likely to me that bleeding-edge distributions
like Arch Linux might be affected.

I'd like to know who else is affected along with what GPU and driver they have
and if they're not using the flatpak what version of WebKitGtk they have
installed. I'd also like to collect the same information  from people who have
Nvidia GPUs and WebKitGtk >= 2.39 for whom GnuCash reports render normally.

[GNC] Transaction Report Advance Portfolio - Options - Account List

2023-05-07 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user

I am running GNUCash - 5.1 flatpak on debian 11.I have been using GC for
15years now and the Advance Portfolio report does not list all the COA or
highlight the selected accounts the report is based on unlike earlier versions
> 4.xx. This also applies to the investment portfolio report

Selecting Reports>>Assets & Liabilities>>Advance Portfolio>> report runs fine
I want to change this report so that I can run the report from each investment
broker selected from COA.

Selecting Reports>>Advance Portfolio>>options>>accounts
It fails to list all the COA, it only lists Assets and the sub accounts under
this e.g. fixed assets and current assets and I have retirement assets but not
list my investment assets .
It also does not list which accounts the report is based on and it fails to
show equity, expenses or liabilities as previous versions of GC.
Therefore I cannot select/filter the report by investment broker as previous GC
versions.
I ran my report on GC 4.13 and I can create and amend the report with all COA
listed in the default Advanced Portfolio options (GC 4.13 running my VM), but
the current release 5.1 does not show all the accounts and it cannot be
modified.

I believe this will apply to other users so I will submit a bug report.
thanks,Martin

Re: [GNC] getting price quotes

2022-11-30 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user

Hi Alan,
To update F::Q on windows
You would go to start menu and then to gnucash menu, in there you
should find update online quotes, this will update F::Q
However, I would recommend you update GC now to the latest version
4.12.

Martin

Re: [GNC] getting price quotes

2022-11-30 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user
Hi Alan,I am also UK based and you need to check the following.
You have a valid free Alpha Vantage API key setup in preferences for on-line
quotes
You have the latest on-line stock retrieval at least Finance::Quote: 1.53
otherwise your quotes will not download (this is probably the issue as Alpha
Vantage changed the retrieval requirements and the F::Q needed an update.)

Check you have set your on-line quotes to retrieve from Yahoo as JSON in
Security Editor for stock quotes. This works fine for me.

Then you should be fine.
You did not say which OS you are running or the GNU Cash version with F::Q
version, therefore depending upon OS the updates to F::Q are different.
I hope this helps.

regards,Martin

Alphavantage is now the default, and you have to get a free ID to use the
service (there is information regarding how to acquire an ID).

Be aware, though -- Alphavantage adds a one-minute delay for each set of
five stocks you update. (That is, five stocks will take seconds, but six
stocks will take over a minute).

I changed to what David suggested for my stock updates. I would prefer to
have Multiple, but not use Alphavantage, but that doesn't seem to be an
option at present.

Re: [GNC] Finance::Quote v1.53 RC1 Available for Download

2022-10-02 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user

Hi David,

I used:

$sudo cp -R /(path-to-source) /(path-to-target)

as I could not workout how you would update it in flatpak with the gnc
commands.

Then I checked the Alphavantage.pm file with a text editor to verify
the (version 1.53)

Bruce sent an email recently confiming the file name discrepancy
relating to the version number when he released the update this week.

So, the command I used is once I extracted the file to the Documents
folder:

sudo cp -R ~/Documents/Finance-Quote-1.53/lib/Finance
/var/lib/flatpak/app/org.gnucash.GnuCash/x86_64/stable/98bea86b69a63cc6
ed5a1854344d115a683d6cee7ca56b81e7210f2da2706d88/files/lib/perl5/site_p
erl/5.32.0

Once copied go to the Alphavantage.pm file and check the version
number.

regards,
Martin

In scheduled transactions, on the frequency tab enter weekly in Frequency and
the date when it will start, then every 4 weeks in the next box below,
This will give you every 4 weeks transaction.

Re: [GNC] Upgrade issue on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and GNC 4.10

2022-09-12 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user
Hi JeffI had a similar issue with reports on GNC 4.11 when Ubuntu got an
update when I was running 22.04.Although, when I ran the report and the display
screen was blank, I ran the output to PDF and the report data was populated.
I understand reports use webkitgkt file to produce reports. To fix the blank
reports output on screen I had to reinstall GNC in the flatpak, then it worked
fine.As far as I could find is that a connector/link of some sort breaks
between Ubuntu and GNC during the update of Ubuntu.Hope this

Re: [GNC] Saving window position (and size)

2022-07-12 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user
Hi
I think your issue is the windowing system on Debian which can be found
under setting/about, it probably states Wayland and not X11.

I have just checked my system and I am running X11 not Wayland which is
default on Debian distro's

To change that:

Log off
at the log on screen click the user or highlight the password box, at
the bottom right on the screen there is a wheel (settings) click that
and change it from Ubuntu Wayland to Ubuntu.
The windowing system will now be X11 and not Wayland

Log back on and the window system should be back to center not upper
left each time you start and app, and the open windows in that app will
stay where you left them.

Martin

No issues for me.
I am running GS 4.11 on Ubuntu 22.04 and the windows stay in the same

Hi Adrien,
I looked for webkit installation upgrade in my history log and it was
not updated.

I have now re-installed GNUCash via flatpak this morning and it is now
working.

Ubuntu upgrade must have broken a connector somewhere on GNUCash
durings its updates.

Many thanks for the feedback

Kind regards,
Martin

[GNC] Running Reports - Failure

2022-05-21 Thread Martin Booth via gnucash-user
Hi,
Running reports has suddenly stopped working for me on my PC.
I am using GNUCash 4.10 on a Ubuntu PC with 22.04 OS latest updates as
well.
When I run any preconfigured report or any saved reports the output is
a blank page on screen.
If I run export on the blank output page and save the file (html) and
open the file with my browser the output is fine.
If I run print to file as pdf GNUcash crashes.
This week I ran reports and I had no issue, then later in the week
Ubuntu received a number of updates and one of the updates was nVidia
driver. I know nVidia drivers can be an issue on Linux OS, but I am not
sure if this is causing the issue. If I run the same GNUCash file on my
latop (Intel GPU) also configured with Ubuntu OS (same version and
latest updates) the reports run fine even print to file (PDF) is OK.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Martin
