Unfortunately, since the most recent update (only installed today by

Do I understand you right, you are fetching quotes on all foreign
currency transactions — several times a day?

And the crash happens in the "Transfer Funds" dialog?

I have tried reinstalling Online Price Retrieval, and a number of the

And I'm still having the same problem.

You will have to wait for the next F::Q release or apply the patch

Re: [GNC] bulk operations?

Yes, I agree that the exchange rate has to be input. Whether you fetch the rate
(also permitted by HMRC as I understand it) or input the rate manually it still
has to be confirmed for each invoice when posting in Gnucash.

Re: [GNC] bulk operations?

Thanks for the suggestion, Adrien. I’ve got entering the invoice data into
Gnucash down to a fine art (especially with the recent “predictive text” input
in my “product” fields! Thanks again for that, whoever it was!). It is
specifically the step to confirm the exchange rate when posting an invoice
which is the time consuming point.

Re: [GNC] bulk operations?

2020-12-07 Thread Samantha Payn
I’d find a “batch post invoice” function enormously helpful. I have a foreign
currency client who insists on a separate invoice for each (sometimes
inconsequential) amount and the multiple clicks to post the invoice and confirm
the exchange rate for each one are time consuming.
Currently the quickest I’ve got it is to create each invoice but not post it,
then use “find invoice” criteria to call all the invoices up, highlight them
all and then click “post” which prompts the exchange rate dialogue (for every
invoice). I use “fetch rate” for the first invoice, and just “accept rate” for
all the others, but that’s still three clicks per invoice (I think).
Please could Santa bring me a “batch post invoice” function for Christmas?

Samantha's debug output shows the error message:

   * 10:15:31 DEBUG  handling-request: (currency USD GBP)

   * 10:15:31 DEBUG  handling-request: (currency EUR GBP)

   * 10:15:31 ERROR There was a system error while retrieving
   the

   price quotes.

But *only* when two non-USD currencies are involved - EUR/GBP in this
   case.

John - when you said you can't reproduce the problem your log only
   shows

CAD/USD. Have you tried EUR/GBP? I have the same problem as Samantha

when I try this, even though both gnc-fq-dump and gnc-gfq-helper are

   working OK.

Samantha - would you mind checking in gnucash under "Edit / Preferences

   please?

See attached screenshot for my settings - DO NOT change yours to mine.

This time edit an exchange rate on an existing multi-currency
transaction and use the Fetch Rate button to attempt to get an online
quote. Dismiss the error dialog, cancel the edit, and quit GnuCash.

   Then list the log files

   Hi John

Thank you for your continued support.

This is the path displayed for Strawberry Perl.

   PS C:\Users\User> [Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable('PATH',
   'MACHINE')
   C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\Syst
   em32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Windows\System32\OpenSSH\;C:\Strawberry
   \c\bin;C:\Strawberry\perl\site\bin;C:\Strawberry\perl\bin

And doing this did start Gnucash.

   PS C:\Users\User> & 'C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe'

   PS C:\Users\User>

It opened it as though I'd never used it before, inviting me to create

   Samantha,

So Finance::Quote is correctly installed. Maybe GnuCash isn't finding
perl. Run the following in Poweshell:

   [Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable('PATH', 'MACHINE')

Make sure that it lists the correct Strawberry Perl path. Those square
brackets around Environment are part of the command.

Next, start GnuCash from Powershell as follows:

   & 'C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe' --log gnc.scm=debug
   --nofile

Just quit when it finishes starting. Find the most recent trace file

   Get-ChildItem -Path $Env:USERPROFILE\AppData\Local\Temp -filter

is greyed out so I cannot use the online currency rate retrieval that I
used to be able to before I upgraded my hardware.

After installing the current version of gnucash on my new PC, I clicked
on "Install Online Price Retrieval" from the Gnucash list in my start
menu and I have entered the Alfa Vantage API key in my gnucash
   preferences.

I have checked for the presence of the perl software using the
Troubleshooting method you directed me to and received the response
that I should install the Finance::Quote. The only way I have done this
in the past is by clicking on "Install Online Price Retrieval" from the
Gnucash list in my start menu and this is what I have done several
times now. So I have done this again and after a run of code in the cmd
   window the final lines are:

   "C:\Strawberry\perl\bin\perl.exe" -MExtUtils::Command -e cp - -
   examples/dm_zdump blib\script\dm_zdump pl2bat.bat blib\script\dm_dump
   SBECK/Date-Manip-6.82.tar.gz
   C:\STRAWB~1\c\bin\gmake.exe - -OK

When I look in the Windows list of apps installed it says I have
installed Strawberry Perl on 3rd July (when I first tried installing it
   on my new PC).

I am running the latest version of Gnucash and I find that in the help
   window it says

   "Version: 4.0
   Build ID: 4.0+(2020-06-27)
   Finance::Quote: -"

Please let me know what other information you need in order to be able
to help me. I am stepping way out of my comfort zone when I enter the
cmd window but willing to give it a go.

   Best regards

   Samantha

   that work?

You haven't actually told us exactly what doesn't work. Please
   elaborate.

Note that trading accounts has nothing to do with it, nor do previously
created prices. Note that while rates used for transactions are
recorded in the pricedb to ensure that there's an entry to make reports
work properly, each foreign currency split has its own exchange rate,
the ratio between the amount in the foreign currency and the value in
the home currency, so the only thing you'd affect by clearing the
pricedb is reports on past dates, especially time series reports.

You may also enter prices manually as a temporary measure until you get
   online quotes working properly.

I did post this question before but am still having the same problem.

I have successfully used Gnucash for a couple of years for

multicurrency invoice processing using the Strawberry perl plug in (by

clicking on Install online price retrieval in the Gnucash section of

I have tried installing gnucash, adding the API key, and then adding

   No joy.

   Where am I going wrong?

I'd like a preference somewhere to activate/inactivate the Interest
   Payment

pop-up appearing automatically on an account by account basis. I'd like
   the

"Enter Interest Payment ..." button to remain as I have used it a
   couple of

times, but that when it has been used it won't then mean it appears

automatically the next time, which would remove the need for the "No

   Automatic Interest Payment" button.

   Just my two penny worth.

   Alan A Holmes

BTW, that's exactly what the current Pull Request implements: per

account option, and the option isn't set silently if you decide to
   click

   "enter interest payment".

   [13]https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/pull/753

I think it's a reasonable compromise that keeps the feature around, but

   much better behaved.

   That is an interesting problem.

There isn’t a batch posting feature, so you still have to post them
individually, but I can see how removing lots of extra clicks would
   help the workflow.

Somewhere in the process, GnuCash needs to confirm with the user what
the exchange rate will be. Outside of a separate batch posting
function, I don’t see how this could be implemented presently. If a
batch posting function were added, it should include an *option* to
only confirm an exchange rate once per currency per run.

[GNC] "Unable to retrieve quotes for these items: CURRENCY:USD"

2018-04-15 Thread Samantha Payn
I have searched the mailing list database of queries and see that there
have been issues with fetching prices/currencies online before.

I am a novice GnuCash user and before I proceed further I need to be
sure that I can get live online USD and EUR to GBP and vice versa
prices. I have installed the Strawberry Perl tool and am attempting to
set up currencies for business use.

When I click the "get quotes" button in the Price Database I get the
error message: Unable to retrieve quotes for these items: CURRENCY:USD

There is no error message regarding EUR which I have set up in the same
   way as a currency.

   Can anyone help, please?
