I just did a similar fat fingering. I associated the *wrong security* for an
account after entering the transaction history -- less than 20 transactions.
But thought I would ask -- since this thread is a couple of years old...
want to confirm that the attribute cannot be edited.

[GNC] Search UI in v3.7

2019-10-11 Thread aegross
Haven't seen anything posted on this so maybe this is a problem with my
setup? I also checked the bugs on https://www.gnucash.org/news.phtml.

When using the search function, just one of the requested parameters is
visible, although there is a good amount of white space in the dialogue box.
Anyone else seeing this?

OS: Mac 10.12.6 (last version this Mac will support)

Thanks,

Re: [GNC] AQbanking setup crash

2019-09-16 Thread aegross
Amex is encrypting (tokenizing?) the account number now. So you have to
determine what your account number is. I downloaded a QFX file from their
website. reveals the encrypted account number. I don't know if
this sort of account number gets rotated every so often so I am not saying
this is "the answer". I can say I downloaded transactions succesfully. One
odd thing was I asked for all transactions from 9/15 to 9/16 and I received
transactions from 9/11 to 9/15.

Thanks to this thread
which discussed the tokenizing.

Re: [GNC] AQbanking setup crash

2019-09-15 Thread aegross
Thanks John. Upgraded to v3.7.1 and aqbanking is running without crashing,
although the one account I wanted to use not just yet working perfectly.

Log file says...
The server successfully processed the request.
Status for transaction statement request: Account not found (Code 2003,
severity "ERROR")
The specified account number does not correspond to one of the user's
accounts.

I surmise that although the two accounts are matched despite the above error
something in the config isn't right. Am going to do some searching and see
if anyone has had a similar issue.

[GNC] AQbanking setup crash

2019-09-09 Thread aegross
I used to use aqbanking to download credit card transactions but stopped a
couple of years ago; it used to work but I don't recall what version of
GnuCash I was using then.

Today, I tried using the aqbanking wizard and GnuCash crashed. I also tried
Actions\Online Actions\Show log window and that crashed GnuCash also.

GnuCash version: 2.6.21
MacOs version: Sierra (10.12.6). Owing to the age of the Mac, this is the
last recent version that Apple will support.

I did some looking around for relevant documentation on how to debug but am
not having success. If anyone has any ideas, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

[GNC] HSA Deposit from Employer

2018-05-28 Thread aegross
Each month, I deduct from my Gross Salary to fund my Health Savings Account.
However, my employer also funds the account each month. The employer part
is not attributed to Gross Salary on my paycheck. The section of the
paycheck is labeled as "Employer Paid" which isn't very helpful. Trying to
determine how to balance the employer's entry, i.e., where is this money
originating?

For context, I reviewed postings on how to handle 401K matches -- advice
included creating an "Income" account or a "Deferred Income" account. I
supposed I could make this an Income account but my gut says this is not
correct.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

When entering a split is there a method for inserting a split line before an

Restarting a Scheduled Transaction - possible ?

2017-11-21 Thread aegross
Greetings, I had a scheduled transaction that ran for x months and has now
ended. I would like to restart the transaction with some changes. I used
the SX editor to change the start date but the transaction would not restart
-- I tried restarting gnucash to start the next series of transactions, but
nothing happens. Also tried running the "since last run" command but that
didn't help.

Running GC v2.6.17 on Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6)

Parameters around the transaction:

OVERVIEW tab
- "enable" checkbox is checked
- the new date (that I set trying to restart the transaction) persists after
restarting GnuCash and is currently one day (11/22) in the future.
- "create automatically" is checked
- "create in advance" is set to 15 days.
- last occurred (which I can't change), is actually 2 days in the future
(11/23) and was an error when the original transaction was created; before
trying to restart the transaction series I had deleted this incorrect entry
in the account.
- Under "For", it's set to 12 occurrences.

FREQUENCY TAB
- "Start" date is set to 11/22/17 (had been 11/23/16 originally)
- Every "1" months
- On the "22nd", except "no change"

Am thinking either scheduled transactions can't be restarted (or recycled)
OR having the SX editor think the last transaction occurred after the next
scheduled transaction (the first transaction in the new series) is a
problem.

After writing all this I am thinking the answer is probably just to delete
and redo the SX; any other ideas?

Thanks,
AEG

Transaction Report - Subtotaling on Description? (Based on Previous Threads)

2017-09-04 Thread aegross
This post is more-or-less for the elders of the forumthose who have a lot
of experience with GC and double-entry accounting

Was reporting on charitable giving for the current year, using the
Transaction Report.  Tried to determine how to subtotal on Description;
couldn't determine how and scanned through past threads and found these:

http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/Basic-reporting-Subtotal-by-Description-field-td1421478.html

http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/report-of-charitable-contributions-td4461126.html#a4461254

http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/Which-report-am-I-looking-for-td4688925.html#a4689235

If I understand the primary points of these threads, it isn't possible to
subtotal on Description (without changing the code) and if one really wanted
to subtotal on description, they really should not have setup their account
like Expense:Charity but rather Expense:Charity:CharityName1,
Expense:Charity:CharityName2, etc.

The previous authors and myself maybe have thinking too much as to how a
Quicken-type program uses reports and not properly how to think this through
with proper double-entry accounting. Before reading these threads, it
wouldn't have occurred to me to have Expense sub-accounts dedicated to a
particular entity, esp if I may use an entity once or twice but never again.

It's not that there is a problem with the Transaction Report or even that it
"needs work" but rather, my understanding of double-entry accounting was
insufficient. Correct?

Andrew Gross

I am **not** talking about the ACTION field in any particular account

Dave, I am using Mac OS X, GC v2.6.16. Perhaps the editor was updated in
the current version (v.17) to allow changes. In v.16 the editor does not
allow any changes in the ACTIONS field. I will upgrade my GC shortly and
try again.

But more than the specific feature, I was trying to get a feel for whether
Bugzilla should be used for requesting enhancements. I often see
enhancements requested via email, but that seems sort of chaotic and puts it
on the development staff to cull requests.

transactions are posted: https://www.screencast.com/t/OFlJ1dI90. I am
running GC v2.6.16 on OS X 10.12.5.

I never quite understood the first part of this message "There are no
Scheduled Transactions to be entered at this time," since the second
sentence indicates a transaction has just been entered. Is there another way
of expressing this first sentence? It's not causing a problem for me, but I
am curious.

Thanks,
Andrew Gross

Accounting Question | Reselling Old Equipment?

2017-07-02 Thread aegross
This is more of an intellectual curiousity for me than a serious matter. In
proper double accounting, when selling an old asset, in this case an old
mobile phone (hence this is a small matter), proper accounting would say the
proceeds should go into an income account correct?

Reporting Repository ?

2017-07-02 Thread aegross
There isn't a reporting repository (for those who have written their own
reports and would like to share), correct? I found a few threads on this
but nothing conclusive.

Thanks,
Andrew Gross

Has been down for a number of days...

Perhaps the wiki site would be of help? http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GnuCash

Able to add entries to the action list?

2017-06-04 Thread aegross
Is it possible to add categories to the action list, e.g., in a bank account,
I would like to add a category indicating that a "mobile deposit" was made.

Thank you,
Andrew Gross

Gnucash is using Nabble now. Besides the link I posted earlier, the
GnuCash wiki notes it on http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists.

I am not using any special software to access; just my browser.

Why not use Nabble? (http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com) N.B.: I am not a
shill for Nabble -- I have just found it handy for use with this forum.
