Re: [GNC] First request to kindly help

 To set up a "NEW" gnucash file, make sure that your windows documents
directory has no gnucash directory in iteither delete all the files in it or
rename the gnucash directory "OLD_gnucash" to save any older files you may have.

After this self-introduction, I would like to ask for your help. I read
since some days the GnuCash user mailing list, and I see the many
detailed qestion raised and responded. Several years ago, I had been
using GnuCash, but because of changed working responsibilities this had
been given up – and I do not have any copies. But the new task is
similar: to set up a general income-and-expenses system, with the two
currencies US$ and Cambodian/Khmer Riel – with the widely used fixed
rate of US$1.00 to Riel 4,000.

Then I tried to clean my Windows 10 notebook from any remaining old
“*gnu*” file which might have reamined from before.

I downloaded gnucash-5.7.setup.exe and started the installation, and the
installation happened in

C:\System\ProgramFiles(x86)\gnucash

I was happy to see that also a GnuCash icon had been created on the
desktop, and I hoped I could now start to set up the GnuCash program –
but here my frustration started.

I tried for several hours to solve it – in vain. I describe here what I
got, and I ask for your advice.

After clicking on the GnuCash icon, I get – only very short – a kind of
general GnuCash display picture, and then a GnuCash Tip-of-the-Day.
These disappear quickly, and a full screen field shows up:

Unsaved Book - GnuCash

File     Edit     View     Actions Business   Reports     Tools
Windows   Help (9 items)

Save Close
(with a grayed out Down Arrow)   (with a crossed out x-sign)

When click I see:  When click I see:
Save the current file.            Close the current active page.

But I cannot use these activations – but I can close the whole screen.

I had also tried the 9 items above – but I did not find out where these
contacts would lead me.

So I am totally frustrated, and I started to write to the help list.

Please help.

perl -MCPAN -e shell

2) In CPAN shell type in following command (this might trigger initialization

accepting all defaults setting is fine so answer 'Y' when prompted):

Get your favorite drink and enjoy it while all dependencies are downloaded and

Finance::Quote is up to date (1.62).

Once finished, I recommend you reboot and then launch GNUCash. If everything

I've been meaning to ask how many securities are you attempting to get
prices for?

Early on in this thread I called out the "500" responses. A "500"
typically gets returned from a web page if the site has an issue. When
Yahoo turned off the previous APIs F::Q was using, the HTTP response was
one of the "40?" that would be expected.

With no one else reporting the same issue my sense is that your errors
are the result of something on your end. I also use YahooJSON, and a
cron job fired every weekday at 13:30 Pacific time (16:30 Eastern)
updates about 20 securities in less than 15 seconds. My log from today's
(04/03/2024) run:

=
gnc-get-quote.sh start: Wed Apr  3 01:30:01 PM PDT 2024
DATAFILE: /home/bschuck/Documents/bschuck.gnucash
BKUPFILE: /home/bschuck/Documents/bschuck.gnucash.20240403133001.gnucash
Found Finance::Quote version 1.59.
gz_thread_func EOF
gnc-get-quote.sh completed: Wed Apr  3 01:30:13 PM PDT 2024
=

I would not be surprised if you have a sufficiently large number of
securities that Yahoo has mechanisms in place to detect and block/limit
further lookups.

 wrote:

I am on Windows platform but most likely one of two issues likely on the
Perl front as it seems to be universal across platform:

Since you forced installed LWP::Protocol::https module, it skipped install
of one or more under lying dependent modules so it is broken at its heart
even though physically it is present. IMHO, if Perl is configured correctly
then there is hardly need to force install modules other than in extremely
few rare cases. This also means your CPAN module for Perl is not likely to
be configured correctly to retrieve dependent modules and install them as
necessary.

-- OR --

Your GNC install is looking at Perl that is entirely located in a different
location and it isn't finding all the required modules there.

Former is likely to issue. Also may I ask how you came to conclusion that
installing OpenSSL via brew package manager will be sufficient on Mac to get
F::Q up and running? You may want to review documentation at
https://finance-quote.sourceforge.net/index.html to become familiar.

While commands you listed might work, I like to use following (not sure how
they will behave on your system at this point though) after Perl CPAN module
is properly configured:

sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64' perl -MCPAN -e
'install Test2'
sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64' perl -MCPAN -e
'install Finance::Quote'
sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64' perl -MCPAN -e
'install JSON::Parse'

If things are broken in the process of install then fix them; don't skip
them!

As for Perl's CPAN module, normally if the CPAN's 'prerequisites_policy'
setting (configured with 'follow' option), 'build_requires_install_policy'
setting (with 'yes') and 'make' settings (with fully qualified path to a
make that is found by search or compatible one) are properly set then that
should have installed all pre-requisite dependencies automatically. These
are the sane defaults that gets configures with when CPAN module is
initialized. In case there is interest for the CPAN module configuration
settings, refer to https://metacpan.org/pod/CPAN#Config-Variables link.

Perl sadly does not have a way to uninstall a module on its own. The
unofficial way to do is to delete (safer to rename!?!?) the module's Perl
files and then attempt to install it again.

- Run 'sudo find . -name Quote | xargs ls -al | grep Finance' to find the
location where it is installed.
- Rename 'Finance' directory under .../lib/perl5/... subtree (with perhaps
.bak extension).
- Rerun the installer as mentioned above using modified commands.

With the current state of it, YMMV though.

Subject: [GNC] Problem install Finance::Quote

Hi Guys, I tried to install Finance::Quote in my new mac (M3) with Sonoma
macOs. I Use these lines of command to install:

sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64'cpan -f -i Test2
sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64'cpan -f -i
Finance::Quote
sudo env ARCHFLAGS='-arch arm64 -arch arm64e -arch x86_64'cpan -f -i
JSON::Parse

Now, I was receiving theses kind of messages when I tried to update quotes:

* B3:IVVB11.SA Finance::Quote reported failure with error: 501 Protocol
scheme 'https' is not supported (LWP::Protocol::https not installed)

I already force the install of LWP::Protocol::https and I installed the
opensll with the command: brew install openssl, but it's not working.

My perl is installed in /usr/bin/perl and my version is 5.30.3

anyone can help me?

[GNC] Investment Accounts

2019-02-09 Thread david amaral via gnucash-user

I am in need of help with a new investment account I created. Everything seems
right except the totals.I created an account under investments named
brokerage.Under brokerage I created a sub account named spaxxI entered
transactions and the account spaxx has the correct total displayed.the
brokerage account is 0the asset account has a value that is almost correct but
missing the value of the spaxx account.
My retirement account is correct in all values and I set up the brokerage
account using the retirement account values for the account setup. ( I used
edit account to verify set up)
Any Ideas as to why the total values are incorrect?
Thanks in advance.

 Subject: Price Retrieval Failure

Hello,

I recently upgraded from 2.6.16 to 2.6.19 on my Mac (OSX 10.13.2). In the prior
setup, I had upgraded Finance::Quote to 1.47, added a shell variable for the
Alphavantage key, added the same key to
/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/etc/gnucash/environment, changed
all my stocks to use other:alphavantage, and I was able to retrieve quotes.

Upon upgrade, I find I am no longer able to retrieve AlphaVantage quotes. F::Q
works at the command line:

$ /Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnc-fq-check
("1.47" "adig" "aex" "aiahk" "alphavantage" "amfiindia" "asegr" "asia" "asx"

$ /Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnc-fq-dump alphavantage AAPL
Finance::Quote fields Gnucash uses:
    symbol: AAPL                <=== required
      date: 01/23/2018          <=== recommended
  currency: USD                  <=== required

    price:                      <=/
  timezone:                      <=== optional

I have restored the following two lines into the aforementioned lines to
/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/etc/gnucash/environment:

# Set AlphaVantage API Key to allow Finance::Quote to work
ALPHAVANTAGE_API_KEY=8SET

Unfortunately, I am getting the dreaded "There was an unknown error while
retrieving the price quotes.”

I welcome any reminders on what I have missed, or how to debug this further.

TIA,
David T.

Paul:

I can not speak for the OS you are running, GnuCash may look a little
different.  As will your Quicken program.  I am still running Windoze.

My version (2014), of quicken, will not export to .csv, only .qif and
.qfx.  I would recommend exporting to .qif instead.  The qif exported
file will allow for multiple split transactions, I do not know about the
csv export.  If I remember correctly I exported all of my quicken data
in one shot and imported it.

Sometimes GnuCash has to "chew" on an import for a while.  I frequently
get a message in the top title bar that Gnucash is "not responding".
Wait a few minutes and see if it finishes.  I gave up on .csv imports
because I could never assign the right fields. All I use is

In your home directory should be a gnucash directory with backups. you can open
on older file. also select "file" as you would close gnucash and see if there
is a backup there.

somebody out there give me some love and "support"?
