Re: [GNC] How to search for a word in a description in an invoice

2023-06-27 Thread Adrien Monteleone
If you do accumulate splits, then the register transactions will
consolidate line items so there is only one split per affected account.

If you do not accumulate splits, all line items show up as their own
split. (thus putting the line item detail into the register transaction)

'Memo' is the field to search line items in this case as that is where
your line item description text will be. (other line item fields except
for total amount for that line, do not make it into the register)

As for key bindings to auto-select a search field? I doubt it, but maybe
the GTK Inspector can show you a clue if it is possible.

It would be nice to save search criteria though.

Adrien

Thanks, I have the preference accumulate splits on post  NOT set now.

I still need to use description, notes or memo setting to get anything
from an invoice.  Does that mean I've not got the 'consolidate splits on
posting' unchecked?   I DO  have accumulate splits UNchecked, and that
is all I see.

What is involved in creating a key binding like f such that the

already set?

2023-06-09 Thread Adrien Monteleone
You would need to uncheck 'consolidate splits on posting' when posting
the bill/invoice. There is also a default preference for this.

With consolidated splits, you don't get individual line items in account
registers, but rather one split per affected account.

Without consolidating splits, each line item appears in affected account
registers as it appears in the invoice - that is - every one of them,
even if they all are posted to the same account.

This makes searching line item data and reporting on line item data,
possible.

You can of course, unpost and repost the bill/invoice in question with
the option unchecked.

their FI and the matcher hasn't found a match for the transaction and the

The Imbalance account gets created when you *enter* an imbalanced
transaction. This happens when you, um, hit the *enter* key. If you're
creating a split transaction then you should not hit the enter key until
you are absolutely done will all the splits.

The GnuCash Guide documentation goes through a very detailed, step-by-step
instruction on how to enter a split transaction. I highly recommend you
read the docs.

Maybe the issue is not asking the right question? Even here, in this
email, you don't actually say WHAT your issue is, so I'm only guessing.

Go to www.google.com and search for:

  site:lists.gnucash.org

You don't actually state what your problem is...

[GNC] how to search

2021-06-03 Thread Billie-Internet
Good Morning,
I have been using gnucash since 1/1/2021 and I am frustrated with split
transactions and unbalance account.
Now, I could rip gnucash out of my computer and stomp it to death but I
have 6 months worth of data it in.
I have spent 2 days trying to search for answers and I am amazed that so
many smart people that can write this program can't do a better job of
"support" or finding an answer.
Could someone please send me a link on how to seach the mail lists. A link
that is understandable to the non-computer-geek-normal-user.
Better than that, someone share a link on where someone can be hired to
just fix the problem!
Thanks.
Frustrated,--
Billie

Re: [GNC] how to search transactions?

2020-11-08 Thread David Carlson
April,

Any fact that will help narrow down your search can be used. If you are
sure it is in a certain bank or credit card account you can start your
search from that account register. If not sure, start from the chart of
accounts where all accounts will be searched. limiting the time frame can
be helpful, or knowing even a snippet of the text that you might see can
help

Good luck.

2020-11-08 Thread David H
I know it's hard to see it in the dropdown list but how about "Value" :-)

You can search for multiple criteria i.e. Value has debits/credits greater
than 10.00 and Values has debits/credits less than 100.00 if you aren't
sure of the exact amount.

Cheers David H.

Hi there,

I am trying to search for a credit card charge. I have a rough amount.

Which column should I select in the search screen dropdown?

Thanks
