Re: [GNC] problems with Finance::Quote 1.49 and and gnucash Build ID: 3.8b+(2019-12-29) on windows 10 64 bit

2020-03-14 Thread Mitch Hausman via gnucash-user
Gentlemen,
I did try 32 bit strawberry perl in one of my many install scenarios because
GnuCash is 32bit, and I considered both apps might need to be consistently
storedthat probably got lost in the sauce of my long emailssorry about that...
i'll try to keep this short
today, I tried the "normal path" install on a friend's win 10 (home) 64bit
machineit worked perfectly (though a message flashed by about suspicious
behavior that Sonar noticed)Sonar is a Norton product
so there's something different about the machines (I hope it's that and not
user madness)
I have win 10 pro, they have win 10 homeI have Avast free antivirus, they have
Norton
My first install on my machine failed (same "normal" path) I didn't see any
Avast notifications
I reinstalled GnuCash and Strawberry perl (64 bit and 32 bit), F-Q via cpanm,
many times, many different waysI did not risk cleaning out the registry, so the
new installs weren't really clean
I'm tired of experimenting with install scenariosI'd rather be learning how to
use the software
So, I withdraw the request for help
The win 10 GnuCash install works fine (just not on my box)(BTY Linux install
works fine as well)
My install solution was ugly, but I eventually got F-Q  working within GnuCash
Thanks for the time and effort!
Stay Healthy,
Mitch

this you should find the "Install Online Price Retrieval" which you click on to

So did you find this OK and get some sort of error when you ran it or what ?

So, i downloaded and installed Strawberry Perl 5.30.q.q-*64 bit*

my windows environment has the correct Alpha Vantage?? key, as does

i don't know if it is working properly, though, and, i couldn't figure

That shouldn't matter at all, we're not linking libperl. prices.scm popens perl
to run gnc-fq-helper, hooking to its stdout to get scheme-formatted strings
that prices.scm parses.

while gnc-fq-dump is written in perl, it is not provided by cpan, but
already installed as part of gnucash.

So cpan is right here:

Did you muddle cpan (installer) with perl (processor)?

What is the output of:
perl gnc-fq-check

[GNC] problems with Finance::Quote 1.49 and and gnucash Build ID: 3.8b+(2019-12-29) on windows 10 64 bit

2020-03-11 Thread Mitchell Hausman via gnucash-user

Hello,

I'm testing GnuCash software on windows 10 64bit, to see if it is useful
for me (as opposed to buying Quicken!)

I wasn't able to install Finance::Quote successfully using this procedure:

Microsoft Windows:
??? Close GnuCash.
??? Run Install Online Price Retrieval which can be found in the GnuCash
???Start??? menu entry.

===

So, i downloaded and installed Strawberry Perl 5.30.q.q-*64 bit*
(successfully), then used cpan to install Finance::Quote, which also
installed successfully

my windows environment has the correct Alpha Vantage?? key, as does
GnuCash in edit/preferences/online quotes

i don't know if it is working properly, though, and, i couldn't figure
out how to run gnu-fq-dump (unless i have to do it in the session in
which i installed Finance::Quote)

i tried in the CMD window:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuCash\bin>cpan gnc-fq-dump
Loading internal logger. Log::Log4perl recommended for better logging
CPAN: CPAN::SQLite loaded ok (v0.217)
CPAN: LWP::UserAgent loaded ok (v6.42)

CPAN: YAML::XS loaded ok (v0.80)

Updating database file ... Done!

Text::Levenshtein::XS, Text::Levenshtein::Damerau::XS,
Text::Levenshtein, and Text::Levenshtein::Damerau::PP

>(info): and you provide the -x option on invocation.

i added a fund to security editor (it isn't in my investments accounts
as a sub account--- is that a problem???), and checked get quotes

when i?? execute get quotes function (in price database, not price
"editor", with or without funds added), GnuCash closes/crashes and i
have a .LCK file

from the GnuCash guide:

You may occasionally see .LNK and .LCK files appear. These do not store
any data, but they are created
to prevent more than one user from opening the same file at the same
time. These files are automatically
created when you open the file, to lock it so no one else can access it.
When you close your GnuCash
session or open another file, GnuCash unlocks the first data file by
deleting the .LCK and .LNK files.

If GnuCash crashes while you have a data file open, the .LCK and .LNK
files are not deleted. The next
time you try to open GnuCash, you will get a warning message that the
file is locked. The warning message
appears because the .LNK and .LCK files are still in your directory. It
is safe to choose Yes to open the
file, but you should delete the .LNK and .LCK files (using a terminal
window or your file manager). Once
those files are deleted, you will not get the warning message again
unless GnuCash crashes.

So, I think GnuCash believes Finance::Quote is another user, maybe,
because I installed GnuCash manually (couldn't succeed any other way),
and they aren't properly linked

how do i get Finance::Quote integrated with my GnuCash install, so i can
use it (i.e., doesn't crash)?

Thanks!
