Price Editor

2017-11-04 Thread Jim Muchow
I know that the stock quotes feature is having issues, so I decided
that since I don't have so many and I don't need any more than
Friday's prices, to try to enter stock/fund prices manually.

This doesn't seem to work either; well, it has issues. Let me explain.

I start up gnucash and then using the pulldown, bring up the Price
Editor window. The first oddity comes when I hit the Add button;
the following is displayed on the terminal window I used to start up
gnucash:

sys:1: GtkWarning: gtk_list_store_get_path: assertion 'iter->stamp ==
GTK_LIST_STORE (tree_model)->stamp' failed

Nothing "bad" happens other than this warning line, so I continue.

In the Price Editor window, I modify the various items to point to
a fund that I want to update and do so. When I use the Apply button,
the changes are taken. If I then hit the Cancel, I can escape without
crashing. This is not the case, if I hit the Apply button. A few seconds
go by and then I get a segfault and the program exits. Curiously,
the program crashes the same way if I try to edit or re-enter a price
for a date already entered (although if I Remove it first, it works).

Anyway, as long as I continue to enter a price, hit Apply, and then
Cancel. I can make this work. The gnucash app sent some debug
and crash info off to Ubuntu after one crash.

I am running Xubuntu 16.06 and Gnucash 2.6.12

[GNC] Price editor

2022-08-27 Thread Roger Lewry
Previously I have been able to update share and fund prices manually using
Price Editor which appeared in the Tools menu. It is no longer there, but
Price Database and Security Editor are there. I tried updating to version
4.11 in the hope that this would solve the problem but it has not.

I am using Microsoft Windows 10 Home 21H2. Please can anyone suggest a
solution for me?

I always do this by first clicking on the most recent price for a fund
then clicking Add and entering the data in the box that pops up. I
have not had any of the problems you describe. That is using 2.6.15 on
Ubuntu (17.04). By the way there is no Ubuntu 16.06.

It's still a workaround; just different than that I described. I'm fine with
workarounds, but they're just that, workarounds as opposed to operations
that behave well.

Did you try them? I didn't have these problems either (or didn't know
I had them) until I tried to manually set stock/fund prices. Perhaps it's
version specific. Ubuntu tends to be somewhat behind.

OK, 16.04.03.

It wasn't clear to me *exactly* what you had done so I was just saying
what I do. From my point of view it is not a workaround as that is how
I have always done it. Which is not to say that there is not a bug
there that you have found by doing it a different way.

Crashes are bad, but reports on the list tend to get forgotten. Please file a
bug[1] and attach the tracefile[2] from a crashed session. If you can manage a
stack trace[3] as well they’re really helpful.

I was setting up to create a new bug.

It's not only been seen, but also fixed. Just need to wait

You likely won't get a fix for that on Ubuntu 16.04. If you need an
update then can get it from http://www.getdeb.net/software/gnucash.
Or you can upgrade Ubuntu of course, though if you don't like to
upgrade Ubuntu too often then probably best to wait for the next LTS
release in April.

What has happened to Price Editor?  For the last 3 days, when prompted

Yes, we changed the name in 2.6.11 to make clear the difference between the

Eh? I have 2.6.21 and the Tools menu item is "Price Editor". Which brings

[GNC] Price Editor Problems

2019-05-10 Thread DaveW

Where, please, can I get wo-to-go instructions to get my stock Price
Editor (Re)working??

I am running Ubuntu 18.04. GNC ver 3.5. My stock is all on the ASX
(Australia). Things worked wonderfully until the Yahoo demise and
then for a while I was able to use Alphvantage but that stopped too.

I have tried all sorts of fixes randomly and fear I have completely
confused GNC in the process.

I would greatly appreciate some step by step assistance.

Price editor unbalances accounts

2017-09-04 Thread Keith Bellairs
The price editor makes unbalanced entries in my accounts by increasing (or
decreasing) the value of securities without the needed balancing entry to
income. In US tax terms the gain (loss) is an "unrealized" gain (loss) so
there's no need to pay tax on it, so some people might not want it show up
as income. But I would really like it if my trial balance actually
balanced.

Has anyone looked at this "problem"?

Price Editor and ASX

2017-12-04 Thread Peter Garcia-Webb

HI,
ASX has a limits the number of price requests that can be made at any
one time. As a result Gnucash Price Editor fails to update any prices if
the number of ASX based stocks exceed nine (9).
Is there any way to limit the number of requests to update that Price
Editor sends when I click Get quotes?
If not I shall have to set up two different account, say Me1 and Me2 and
list different stock in each.

Thanks

Price Editor/Database lag

2018-03-31 Thread David G. Pickett
Now that I am manually updating my stocks monthly, thanks, Yahoo, I find
that as I pull up the price history to clone a new month end entry for
the symbol, I get a _*long (30 second) gray out delay*_ (on Linux, and
not the newest PC) at some point in the cycle, like a premature auto
save or something.  This makes the process detestibly slow, 40 seconds a
symbol!  Any suggestions?

Might be a Yahoo problem. AlphaAdvantage worked fine for me just now.

Check your tracefile before restarting GnuCash and/or run from the command line
to see if you get any warnings or errors output to a terminal. See the wiki for
more instructions if you aren’t familiar with either.

Les, that seems very strange as the price editor should be displaying all
the prices that are currently in the data file. Are you using the regular

Re: [GNC] Price Editor Problems

2019-05-11 Thread Eric Coates

Hi (again!)

OK, if you had AlphaVantage working at some time you'll have an
AlphAvantage API key.

(In GnuCash 3.5 you can confirm this by going through*Edit > Preferences
> Online Quotes *and confirming that the key appears there)

It sounds as if you've hit the problem with AlphaVantage throttling the
queries; the way to overcome this is to modify the file
*AlphaVantage.pm.* I had problems finding the correct file to modify but
I think in Ubuntu 18.04 it is
at*/usr/local/share/perl/5.22.1/Finance/Quote*; in 19.04 it's at
*usr/share/perl5/Finance/Quote/AlphaVantage.pm*. Or, to be more exact,
that's where it was/is on my system; if it's not there a hint (given by
John Ralls a while ago) is to look in the */etc/share* directory and
look in folders called perl or perl5.

Having found the file it needs to be modified to add in a delay that
overcomes the throttling problem. Very close to the end of the file
there is a line

*select(undef, undef, undef, .7) if ($quantity);*

(although, to be honest, I can't swear that the final semi-colon
appears) that needs to be modified to read

*select(undef, undef, undef, .7) if ($quantity); sleep(15);*

(the modified line does need the semi-colon).

It took me some time to gather the courage to go in and modify a
"system" file; if you share my discomfort I can provide some guidance on
how to do it.

Best wishes

Eric

My apologies.

I am going to swear!

The message below is not the one I sent; lots of asterixes have been
added, to get the correct message remove all of them (and if you want to
see the original, enbolden the text they delineate)

I was trying to make the text more readable by emphasising the important
bits - I'm going to have to rethink how that's possible.

Thank you for the tip. I have (I think!) found the "offending" setting.
I have unset it.

I think it's possibly something to do with the mailing list - sending a

shows no problems.

Everybody

Please forgive the small experiment.

read-only file I had quite a lot of problems saving the modification.
For want of a better solution I resorted to use Master Commander, (sudo
mc), simply because I don't know how to open a file as Root. What is a
better method???

Yes I confirrmed I have an API key.

But . . . when setting up the Securities, in the "Get online quotes
section, I run into trouble again. My securities are all on the
Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). The only AlphaVantage selection
available is AlphaVantage US. I now don't know quite how to set up the
Get Online Quotes section. I have tried a few of the many
combinations of selections to no avail.

Can you help me further please. What other information should I
provide?

Re: [GNC] Price Editor Problems

Dave

My comments are in-line:

The way I edit "system" files is:
(1) Find the file I want to edit. I find that the Terminal command
locate / AlphaVantage.pm (or whatever the file name is) is far
more useful than the find file button in the graphical interface
(2) Using the graphical interface open the directory that contains the
file (slightly counter-intuitive but hang on!)

(3) Right click in a blank area of the display and select
   Open In Terminal
(4) Optional (but a good idea!) check you're in the right place by
giving the command ls and confirm that Alphavantage.pm appears in
the output
(5) Give the command sudo nano AlphaVantage.pm nano is a generally
available, simple(ish) text editor.

(6) Make the necessary changes.
(7) Write out the modified file using CTRL+O (it'll ask whether you
want to overwrite the file, just click ENTER)

(8) Exit nano by keyingCTRL+X
(9) Close the Terminal
(10) Job done - well for me it was!
Whether it's better than Master Commander I don't know having never used
the latter (or ever even hearing of it!), I suppose that's a matter of
personal choice.

Yes I confirrmed I have an API key.

That's good - without you ain't going nowhere! (A colloquial expression
which means exactly the opposite of what it says - but, at least, it
does allow me to use the word "colloquial"))

But . . . when setting up the Securities, in the "Get online quotes

It appears that what was AlphaVantage in the "Unknown" section of the
Edit Security window has been renamed as AlphaVantage, US in the
"Single" section (I don't know why). For me - and my UK shares -
choosing AlphaVantage, US gave me all the information I needed (I don't
know why - some things I just accept). Try it, it may work for ASX
shares as well - we can but hope.

Can you help me further please. What other information should I
provide?

Hopefully, that's sufficient for you

Best wishes

It sounds as if you've hit the problem with AlphaVantage throttling
the queries; the way to overcome this is to modify the file
*AlphaVantage.pm.* I had problems finding the correct file to
modify but I think in Ubuntu 18.04 it is
at*/usr/local/share/perl/5.22.1/Finance/Quote*; in 19.04 it's at
*usr/share/perl5/Finance/Quote/AlphaVantage.pm*. Or, to be more
exact, that's where it was/is on my system; if it's not there a
hint (given by John Ralls a while ago) is to look in the
*/etc/share* directory and look in folders called perl or perl5.

Having found the file it needs to be modified to add in a delay
that overcomes the throttling problem. Very close to the end of the
file there is a line

*select(undef, undef, undef, .7) if ($quantity);*

(although, to be honest, I can't swear that the final semi-colon
appears) that needs to be modified to read

*select(undef, undef, undef, .7) if ($quantity); sleep(15);*

(the modified line does need the semi-colon).

It took me some time to gather the courage to go in and modify a
"system" file; if you share my discomfort I can provide some
guidance on how to do it.

Best wishes

No, the Price Editor doesn’t do anything at all to your accounts. The Accounts
page shows the value of your securities according to the latest prices in the
price database, but if you look at the account registers you’ll see that
there’s no transaction that reflects price changes.

When you run reports you can select what price to apply to assets. “Nearest in
time” will generally cause the report to show “book value” with no unrealized
gains or losses; “Most Recent” will price assets at the most recent price found
in the price database. The other two, “Average Cost” and “Weighted Average” use
averages of the prices actually paid for the non-default-currency assets but
average all purchases in different ways.

If you actually want to book unrealized gains (and unless a certified/chartered
accountant tells you that you do, you don’t) you must create the transactions
yourself.

HI,
ASX has a limits the number of price requests that can be made at any
Thanks

Hi Peter & John,

Finance::Quote for ASX already does a separate web request for each stock code
because I couldn't figure out how to do multiples when I implemented using the
new m.asx.com.au url. The ASX web server is very intermittent. Sometimes it
works, sometimes it doesn't. It does seem to fail more often when a large no of
stock prices is requested at once. Strangely, they all seem to work or all
fail...
I haven't been able to get it working reliably yet, but I haven't had much time
to spend working on it.

I did try using yahoo_json with codes like CBA.AX but that also is unreliable.

Price Editor - currency exchange rates

2017-12-27 Thread i . smajli
Hello
Problem:
After changing to Alphavantage the exchange rate retrieved by F::Q between
the Default Currency (in my case MYR) and USD is 55.21, which is
approximately 13.7 times the actual exchange rate. The same applies to
other currencies i.e. the exchange rate is in all cases approximately 13.7
times of the actual exchange rate.
When I change my Default Currency to EUR the exchange rate to other
currencies is retrieved correctly.
Any suggestions what I can do ?
Cheers
Ismael

You don't necessarily have to update manually. The original Yahoo source has
been ruined, but you can (and I do) use "yahoo_json" as a source. It's
worked fine for me.
As for your actual question, I'm sorry but I've no idea. I'm running on Mac
OSX. People might have some inquiries about the particulars of your setup,
like are you using the XML interface, or SQL? If the latter, maybe there's
something odd going on with the database server? Is your database
particularly large?

GnuCash isn’t yet a database application, so all of the data is always in
memory regardless of the backend. If the delay you experience is in opening the
price db dialog then it’s probably due to loading the dialog’s tree model from
the price db.

Re: Price Editor/Database lag

2018-04-01 Thread John Ralls
Please remember to copy the list on all replies.

The data file is read exactly once, when it's loaded. After that everything is
stored in GnuCash objects. That's what "all of the data is always in memory"
means. We store data as either XML or in a SQL database, so mmap() won't do
anything for us.

The likely problem is that the Price Editor is based on a GtkTreeView, and its
model needs to be loaded every time you open the Price Editor. We could indeed
get a pretty big performance enhancement by hiding the Price Editor on close
instead of destroying it.

Yes, the price db could be kept apart from book data, but it isn't. That would
be a pretty big design change, and I think better left until we're ready to
change to query-as-needed database use as that will bring about a lot of
incompatible storage changes.

John,

OK, that makes sense, except the lag can occur pretty randomly as I select
lists of symbols, select symbols from that list, ask for an add window, or work
in the add window with date, price. (I select the most recent month end nav so
it is cloned with the add, just needs a new date and price.) Maybe it is going
into thrashing?

 Thanks,

David

I just discovered my swap was all turned off. It might also explain very un-VM
messages like "Your computer does not have enough free memory to automatically
analyze the problem and send a report to the developers." Now I have a huge,
dedicated drive SSD swap (which one article said was a bad idea, but maybe any
churn wear will be more distributed on a huge (150G) swap). Let me see if that
helps!

Of course, I am also moving my price source to Yahoo_JSON.

Re: Price Editor/Database lag

2018-04-02 Thread David via gnucash-user

PS: No, swap does not prevent this.

I did notice that it struck just once during the first symbol, and then not
again until I did a null update, so maybe it trashes the in-memory object after
every mod., and reinstates it from scratch. But for that, I would expect the
delay to be more synchronous in the cycle of actions.

An object that lived in a mmap'd file could be updated in place at RAM speeds,
is potentially visible to many processes, yet even if the app crashes, is saved
by the dirty page writer. I have noticed that mmap() is one of the most
neglected aspects of C/C++/JAVA/??? -- direct access to VM with memory objects
visible to multiple processes by mmap() or file calls, access to all free RAM
as your cache.

I started vmstat -tw 11 in a wide xterm and I do see a lot of swap out for
some but not all delays. The not-first delays seem to be smaller now. The
first delay did 3K+ so, later ones did 2K+, 300+ or almost no so. Almost no
so may indicate the container is not dealing well with the volume and
requests it gets, even when it has all the ram it desires. Is the tree
keyed on category, symbol, date reverse like the display?

Re: Price Editor/Database lag

2018-04-04 Thread DGPickett via gnucash-user
I discovered my vm.swappiness=60, dropped it to 10 as recommended for desktop
LINUX. Now no si/so on vmstat, but a peak in cs and a moderate delay,
around 20 seconds, when adding price quotes.

Again, it looks like it is using too big a RAM space to manage this data, or
some similar process inefficiency. I would think a properly keyed tree
container would be good, allowing you to look up a symbol and then pull the
tree in key order from that point. Perhaps it force-saves after every
modification?

Re: Price Editor/Database lag

2018-04-06 Thread DGPickett via gnucash-user
PS: Sometimes, trees of trees/containers outperform having everything in one
tree/container. If the quotes for each symbol are in a separate container,
the RAM hit to query or churn data for that symbol is minimized. If the
data is kept sorted in all storage forms (when inserted into the container,
when converted to XML), then you really do not need a tree; a simpler list
would do. Just a thought.

I set my swappiness down to 5. However, I am now getting daily quotes using
yahoo JSON, so the churn is in the background at midnight.

[GNC] Problem With Price Editor

2018-06-22 Thread Les
Previously I posted a problem where I had created a new stock entry but
it never got populated in Price Editor although it is in Security Editor
and in my list of stocks.

Since I have not received any suggestions, I attempted to "fix" this
myself but removing the account from my list of stocks and from Security
Editor.  I was able to remove it from my list of stocks, but when I
attempted to remove it from Security Editor, I was prevented from doing so.

So, I am appealing to the list for assistance with this issue. Any
suggestions greatly appreciated.

[GNC] More Price Editor questions

2018-08-05 Thread Keith Bellairs
Since the price upload was failing I tried manually updating security
prices and found that the editor is unbelievably slow. Could be that the
price server is just timing out waiting for the editor. (I have many years
worth of price data and its acting like its doing a bubble sort on all the
prices every time it is touched.) While the price editor is churning gnc is
completely non responsive.

I am in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the gnucash packaged with it is 2.6.17 built
2017-07-04.

Is there a later build available? And has any work been done on the price
editor? I think that's the only thing I am having trouble with, but it
would be worth an upgrade.

[GNC] Price editor uses old entry

2021-11-05 Thread Rainer Dorsch via gnucash-user
Hi,

I noticed that if the price editor has an entry in EUR and an entry in USD, it
used the EUR entry, even if the USD entry has a newer date. My account
currency is EUR.

Is that intended and is there an option to change this behavior?

I usually get the EUR entry, if I buy or sell stock or funds, which are
accounted in USD.

Thanks
Rainer

Assuming you've setup everything as per the wiki link in your email it
shows up under the "Unknown" quote source.

Re: Price Editor - currency exchange rates

2018-01-01 Thread David Carlson
Ismael,

It seems that I failed to see your question until now, and perhaps most
others did not see it either or someone would have responded.

Alas, I do not know what happened in your case, but hopefully someone else
will know. I do suspect, however, that it may be a bug in the
Finance-Quote module and if others concur, you will need to take it up with
the developer of that module.

Re: [GNC] Problem With Price Editor

2018-06-22 Thread David Carlson
Les,

It is important that you clearly define your problem when you ask for help
in this maillist.

I see that you have been trying things out with GnuCash for some time now,
but when I sampled your comments I did not find a consistent pattern of
mentioning the OS, or GnuCash version when asking about a problem. I think
that you are using release 2.6.21 installed by a procedure called Snap,
which I know nothing about, into some version of Linux. If you are now
trying to use release 3.2, there is a completely different set of possible
issues.

Further, I am confused about whether you completed the entire process of
creating a security in the security list (which is not an account, by the
way) with a proper ticker reference and security type as well as creating a
security account associated with a brokerage account and entering an
initial buy or sell transaction. While the part of creating a security
account and recording a purchase or sale is optional, it (a)helps to have a
way to see the security in your data and (b)creates an initial price entry
in the price database.

I also saw that you were having issues with setting up AlphaVantage
earlier. Did you resolve those, or is that a part of the problem you are
now having with the price editor?

Several of us are willing to help, but we need more specific details.

Re: [GNC] Problem With Price Editor

2018-06-22 Thread Les
Ok, sorry.  I am running Linux Mint 18.2 with GC 2.6.21.  I am still
having problems with AlphaVantage but manage to get downloads a couple
of time per week.

For the record, I have been using GC since 2008.

I setup the new stock by click new account, entered the name of the
stock and selected stock from the list and selected CAD for currency.
This took me to the Security Editor where I reentered the stock name and
its ticker symbol.  I checked get stock quotes and selected AlphaVantage
for the source.

I then went back to the stock in my investments folder and entered the
date acquired, the number of shares and the price, then the amount of
the charge for the purchase, and then selected the brokerage account.
Clicked save.

Get or create a price for the new security.

Re: [GNC] Problem With Price Editor

I have searched my emails and cannot find John Ralls' reply.  I can only
see it via your adding it inline to your reply.  For what its worth, I
am using Thunderbird and when I post something, it ends up in my Sent

First, did you previously succeed in setting up any securities or is this
your first? Have you separately set up a brokerage account to contain your
securities?
I am puzzled by the sequence that you described.
You stated that you went through the process of setting up a security
account but then you assigned a currency to that account which should be
impossible because it is a security account.

Then you stopped before you got to the part where you would go back to the
price editor and look under the namespace where you assigned the security
to see (or not) the security symbol that was in the securities list. Have
you previously set up other securities?

Re: [GNC] Problem With Price Editor

2018-06-22 Thread Les
I have set up a large number of stocks, so it is not my first by any
means.  As a matter of fact, I setup another stock prior to this one
without any issues.  Same procedure.  I have several brokage accounts
and stocks in several countries, including Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong,
Australia, previously other countries. Each country has its own
currency, so the stock in question is in Canada, so I assigned CAD for
its currency.

Re: [GNC] More Price Editor questions

2018-08-05 Thread David Carlson
Keith,

I think that you have the latest version that is pre-packaged for Ubuntu
16.04. I am running the same version.

There are later versions for Windows and Mac but they are not likely any
better at downloading stock prices through AlphaVantage and they have other
open bugs that make them unsuitable for some users. See the release notes
for version 3.2 Version 3.3 is scheduled for September 30.

There are instructions for rolling your own Linux version of release 3.2
but there has been an ongoing discussion about various details in doing
that which you should review before taking the plunge to try that.

That is my opinion.

GnuCash always prefers a direct conversion over an indirect one regardless of
the date. It's not optional. I suppose the problem arises because you're
trading USD-priced stocks from an EUR-denominated brokerage account and the
trades create the EUR prices. The simplest work around is to remove those EUR
prices from the pricedb; it won't affect the transaction or reports using the
average-cost price source. To avoid the problem going forward create an
intermediary USD bank account in your brokerage account hierarchy and when
recording the trade make separate splits for USD<->EUR and stock<->USD. Chris
Lam is working on a stock trading assistant to make this a bit less cumbersome;
we hope it will be finished in time for GnuCash 5.

Thanks John for your quick reply.

The scenario you describe matches well my use case.

Yes, I manually delete the EUR entries in the pricedb

I am looking forward to the stock trading assistant.

Can you tell why GnuCash always prefers a direct conversion over an indirect
one regardless of the date? Is this a bug or a feature :-) ?

Thanks

Re: [GNC] Price editor uses old entry

2021-11-05 Thread David Carlson
Perhaps something was lost in translation. When a transaction has an
embedded price Gnucash assumes that it is a purchase or sale and the price
is exact for that trade. Quotes are generally assumed to be estimates,
therefore somewhat soft like newspaper quotes.

I don't think it's either a bug or a feature that GnuCash prefers direct
conversion, it's just a more efficient way to find a price given the way price
database is arranged in a sort of tree structure of linked lists.

I remembered immediately and resent it also to the list.

The current implementation works well for me, just have to remember that for
each new transaction (could also be earnings), I need to delete the "new
price" from the price editor otherwise I lose my quote updates silently. I
just wanted to find out if I am doing something wrong.

But I have to admit: from a pure user perspective, all the arguments given so
far, do not convince me at all. I thought it might be useful to share it since
there might be more users which have by far not the experience with accounting
tools and insight in the gnucash implementation, which you have.

When I read this first, I was not sure if the comment was pure irony or if it
was serious. Since Johns argument is similar, I assume it is serious:

The price editor manages to sort the quotes by date, so there must be already
code which does that :-)

I which usecase would I be more interested in an exact historic price than in
a current estimate?

As written before, with the current implementation there are workarounds for
me, just wanted to give my humble user perspective.

Thanks for keeping gnucash up to date and running for so many years!

[GNC] Adding Namespace Item to Price Editor

2021-03-22 Thread Jack Frillman via gnucash-user

In the GNUCash Price Editor  you have to choose from a list of seven
*Namespace* items:

Currencies, All non-currencies, AMEX, EUREX, FUND, NASDAQ, NYSE

Is there any way of adding an item to this list?

Price Editor broke today for unknown reasons

2017-11-02 Thread Keith Myers
I can't get Price Editor to work today. Worked fine up till yesterday.
Now all it does is hang GnuCash with a spinner and timeout.  I
completely removed Perl and reinstalled including the Finance-Quote
module.  When I run gnc-fq-check, gnc-fq-dump, and gnc-fq-update, they
all come back with the expected correct responses. Perl sees the module
fine.  Why is GnuCash broken today.  All the rest of GnuCash is working
correctly, just the Price Editor can't get any updates.  I have repaired
GnuCash, rebooted the computer umpteen times and nothing has got the
Price Editor to not hang GnuCash.

When you create a new commodity, you can choose to type in anything you
wish in that section (i.e., you don't have to choose only from the
available list).

You don't *have* to choose from the list. Type what you want.

In the GNUCash Price Editor  you have to choose from a list of seven
*Namespace* items:

Currencies, All non-currencies, AMEX, EUREX, FUND, NASDAQ, NYSE

Is there any way of adding an item to this list?

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

Your change seems to have fixed the editing. I now see your html message

I presume you mean "Price Grabber" and not "Price Editor". The *Price
Editor" itself does not use Perl or anything else -- it's a dialog that
lets you manually enter prices. If you then click on "Get Quotes", that
launches the "Price Grabber", which does use Perl.

Apparently Yahoo is b0rked right now.

Re: Price Editor broke today for unknown reasons

2017-11-02 Thread Keith Myers
Yes, that is what I meant.  The "Get Quotes" function within the Price Editor
which uses the Perl Finance:Quote module.  I even when into the Security Editor
and tried a couple of the other stock scrapers for some of the securities.
Whatever has happened to Yahoo has borked everything.

I am using alphavantage. Has the get quotes method changed?

Thanks in advance!

[GNC] Fw: Prices automatically rounding in price editor (unwanted)

2021-10-09 Thread anobono via gnucash-user
I searched for an answer to this question unsuccessfully before posting here.

I have recently installed Gnucash 4.6 on Windows 10 and when adding security
prices in the price editor, the amount rounds to 2 decimals automatically which
is wrong. Specifically, I type an amount with more than two decimals and if I
click to add this price or just move the focus away, the interface displays the
number with only two decimals. Is this a bug or did I do something wrong? I
went temporarily back to 3.11 because it doesn't have that issue, but i has an
old bug I was happy to see fixed, so I'd rather have 4.6, but functioning
normally.

Thanks.

Price editor updates only work when opening from CLI

2017-12-01 Thread Jeremy Foote
I have a strange problem. I updated Finance::Quote, got my alphavantage API
key and updated /etc/gnucash/environment.

When I opened GC to try to update my securities to use alphavantage it did
not appear in the "other" list. To try to troubleshoot, I opened GC from
the command line. When I did that, alphavantage appeared, and I updated all
of my securities to use it and successfully updated the prices.

I then closed GC and opened it from the OS and tried to update prices again
and it failed! It looks like GC may be using one version of Finance::Quote
if I open it from the CLI and another if I open it from the OS?

This is on Ubuntu 17.10, GC 2.6.17, Finance::Quote 1.47

Re: [GNC] Fw: Prices automatically rounding in price editor (unwanted)

2021-10-09 Thread Gyle McCollam
No, you did nothing wrong. That is a bug that was fixed in 4.7. If you don't
want to upgrade just yet, the "fix" is to hit the enter key after entering the
number. That will retain the number of decimals you entered. It is not the
best, but it does work, you just have to remember to hit the enter key instead
of the way you were entering the prices.

Thank You,
