Re: [GNC] 5.1 - New Description Memory Option?
You say 20, I counted 30 on macOS :-) The thing I don't like much about it is you enter for example an e and you get 20/30 entries then typing further letters to refine the search it only seems to narrow down the results from the initial subset of search results instead of refreshing the actual search results. I happen to like it that you don't need to know the first character(s) if something in the middle is the really unique part of what you want. Re: [GNC] 5.1 - New Description Memory Option?
I think it is the same/similar code used for account selection. (and that feature *greatly* speeds up entry) The idea is that you don't *have* to know or recall how something is spelled *in order* and thus get all options so you can choose the right one. While that is intended, and can be helpful, there are certainly times where it slows you down. I haven't noticed on the Description line, but I know account lookup is limited to 20 results. This can pose a problem if the desired account is not shown in those 20 results as you can't scroll to it at all. This forces a more complicated 'lookup' entry or resorting to the old-school a:b:c shorthand to get what you want. I can only imagine that if the Description field has this same limitation, that can be another complication. Regards, Adrien On 5/4/23 11:17 AM, Jack Slater wrote: I did that and it's now only 12! I did that and it's now only 12! The oddity for me is that not only is the list long but in my mind typing "jo" should start a list that begins with jo, not al johnsons, happy joes and jimmie johns! Great feedback. I'll head there now. Re: [GNC] 5.1 - New Description Memory Option?
Jack: This is being discussed in this bug report https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=798829 I think it would be good to have more users express their views and needs about this feature in that report so the developers have a better sense of the various issues. In expressing your views, it's also good to offer what sort of tweak for alternative behavior you would want to see, so the developers can get a sense of what users want (instead of just complaints about what they don't want) and see how they can reconcile different needs. It has been discussed on the email list before as well but then ideas etc. get lost a bit. With the bug report it's all in one place. So I encourage all with comments about this feature to put them on the bug report. https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=798829 Sincerely, Vincent Dawans On Thu, May 4, 2023 at 7:59 AM Jack Slater wrote: > In the new build, if I type a "j" I now get a pop-up list with the 1st > option listed as "adj".
