Are you willing to try a nightly release?

https://code.gnucash.org/builds/win32/maint/

I am using the build from 2018-04-19, which resolved the issue(s) I had.
Your mileage may vary.

I have recently moved to a new laptop running Windows 10
I have three .gnucash files, Walsh, PSF and LOA, all stored on Dropbox.

Gnucash opens Walsh and PSF but LOA gives the message "Gnucash could
 not
 obtain lock file"

I have read various posts and deleted the Lock files.

When I then "Open anyway" I get "gnucash.exe has stopped working"

I have many loa*.gnucash files dating back many months, have not
 tried
them all but the ones I have selected do the same.

I have copied the files from Dropbox to a new folder and tried opening
 but
 no go.

 Any suggestions

Had switched to 3.0.
Reinstalled 2.6.1, problem resolved.
Should I try 3.0 again?

You did not tell us which release of Gnucash you are using.

If you just switched to release 3.0, that is very likely your problem.

The solution is to revert to release 2.6.21 or earlier.
