The only file in that location is .../gnucash/books/etsmoney.gnucash.gcm

I just ran each and every report with no problem - just ran it, then
closed it.  No new files or folders created.

I'm trying to edit and/or delete existing reports, not (yet) create new
ones.  Or do you mean the trace file? In the command string I used
--logto=$HOME/gnucash.trace, and that file was created.  It just had no
contents.

The default trace file location on flatpak doesn't work indeed. By default the
trace file will be written in /tmp and that folder is treated special by
flatpak. The details aren't clear to me yet, but it's indeed safer to add the
--logto option. You are free to use a file name there (for example "$HOME/
gnucash.trace") or stdout.

Note for completeness to start the flatpak edition of gnucash you'll probably
have to invoke something more like this:
flatpak run org.GnuCash.gnucash --logto="path-to-log-to-or-stdout"

Scheme backtraces are usually found at
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile but if flatpak hides them somewhere
obscure you can dump onto console via "gnucash --logto=stdout". See

Re: [GNC] flatpak 4.4 reports anomaly

2021-02-10 Thread Elmar
The sequence of events was that I had been running 3.8, but somehow it
started to fail badly, with CTD.  So I uninstalled that one and
reinstalled the one from the Mint repository, which was 2.6.19.  All
seemed well. I tried to reinstall 3.6 and then 3.8, then 3.11, but the
installs failed in weird ways, which I didn't bother to document - my
goal was to get to 4.4 anyway.  So I gave up and grabbed the flatpak of
4.4.  In all these versions, going up and down, the data file remained
perfect, and once I moved the "guts" of my aqbanking folder (archived
from version 3.8) into the correct folder for 4.4, my online banking
(downloads of transactions) also worked perfectly, and continue to
work.  The "guts" of the gnucash folder (the one holding the reports
templates) when copied from the 3.8 archive into the correct 4.4 folder
(under .var) seemed to go smoothly, and all my reports showed up fine,
and they run fine.  I just cannot edit or delete any one of them without
a CTD, and have to delete the settings6 folder to get them to show up
again.  All check and repair seems to do is look for imbalances across
the selected accounts, and it finds no problems.  It doesn't touch
report or online templates as far as I can see. So, as I said, my only
problem are editing my reports (running them works), and I see no way to
edit/resave them, since I CTD as soon as I try.

Re: [GNC] flatpak 4.4 reports anomaly

2021-02-10 Thread David H
Elmar,

Can I ask how you went from 2.6.19 to 4.4 flatpak? Did you just open your
version 2.6.19 file in the latest flatpak version 4.4 or did you update to
version 3 and then version 4 to convert your gnucash file correctly? I've
always understood you can't just go from 2.6.19 to 4.4, you have to install
version 3.0 first which updates things behind the scenes (not sure what it
does with reports) and then go to 4.0 and then to 4.4. i.e. you have to go
to the next major release and I've seen recommendations to run check &
repair after going to the each next major release when catching up like
this. I think from memory it was the version 3.0 upgrade that converted
version 2.4 reports to version 2.8 but I could be wrong on this. For the
reports you may have to open each and re-save the config after the 2.8
update, I don't know.

Cheers David H.

We normally bump the file version number if we make incompatible changes.
There was in incompatible change between 2.6 and 3, but not between 2.4 and
2.6. So the 2.4 number was kept during the 2.6 series. 2.8 should ideally have
been named 3, but this version change to the saved-reports file was made at a
time we still thought we'd release a 2.8 series and was forgotten about when
we decided to go with 3 instead.

I don't remember if we did incompatible changes for the 4 series, but I think
not, hence the version number didn't bump.

Re: [GNC] flatpak 4.4 reports anomaly

2021-02-09 Thread Elmar
Since they do run and do extract the correct data OK, can I simply
resave them, or if not, trivially alter some aspect to save under a new
name to avoid having to remember what I all tweaked in each of them?

Hi,

It is certainly true that 2.6 reports are not compatible with 4.4. So
yes, I would expect saved reports to not have made the transition.

2.6.19 reports into the gnucash folder in

2.4).  They al show up and run fine, BUT as soon as I try to delete one
of them, I get a CTD, a locked data file, and when I start the programk
(open anyway) and reopen the reports menu, only 2 of the many reports I
have saved show up.  Is ther a fundamental incompatability with the
report?  I can get my reports back if I delete the file
/home/ets/.var/app/org.gnucash.GnuCash/data/gnucash/saved-reports-2.8
and they do run, but I cannot delete any of them, and trying to export
their output results in the same crash.  Do I have to recreate ALL my
reports in the new version of GC?
