[GnuWin32-Users] [gnuwin32 - Help] needs some initial direction
Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4102212 By: tbinning I know I'm swimming with the sharks here, so this will be an awfully silly question, but I really really need help installing/setting up GnuWin32 on my Windows computer. I know I need a C compiler. Is Miracle C alright? If so, once I've installed both Miracle C and GnuWin32, how do I get Miracle C to recognize the GSL libraries? I know I'm suppose to 'point my linker and compiler to the GnuWin directory' but I don't know which one specifically. Once that is done, and I'm trying to write a program, do I call GSL routines like functions in C? If so, which folder are they located in? I'm clearly very lost and any help is appreciated. [GnuWin32-Users] [gnuwin32 - Help] RE: needs some initial direction
Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4102329 By: jds2 gsl is a library of routines callable from C functions (although in principle the dll could be called from other languages also). So, yes, you need to write a C program that calls the functions you want, then compile your program and link against the gsl library. This usually means that you link against a gsl import library compatible with your linker and then make sure the dll's are available when running your program. You can also link against the gsl static libraries and then not have to have the dll available. Compatible with your linker is the rub. If you use a gcc port (e.g. MinGW) then you can use the import libraries (*.a files ) in the lib subdirectory directly. For most other linkers you'd need to compile a static library or generate import linraries from the dll's. That's some work, or at least requires a reasonable knowledge of the tools. A lot of people use VC++ so there's some know-how around for that compiler. The easiest is to use a gcc port like MinGW so you can just use the files in the gsl distribution. Many of the subdirectories in the gsl source tree have test programs already written. If you can get them compiling, you'll know that you have the right libraries headers settings. The documentation has some info on programming the various functions also. Good luck. Jerry __ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4150516 By: sidkant73 Hi, I am a University Student from Singapore, currently working on a simulation package for networks. I needed to use the GSL libraries, along with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I downloaded the GSL package for windows and was able to install the package, as well as link to my program. The program compiles and links perfectly. However, when I try to run the package, an error is displayed saying that *** This application failed to start because libgsl_d.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem *** I tried to re-build the package as well as try to use the main program without calling any function listed under the GSl library, and it worked well. So i'm guessing that I need to specify the path for this DLL file somewhere. I am a novice at all this, and I would be highly grateful if someone could help me solve this problem. My Configuration Settings are : Additional Include Directories : C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\include Runtime Library : Multi-threaded Debug DLL (/MDd) Additional Include Library: C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin;C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\lib Additional Dependencies : libgsl_dll_d.lib libgslcblas_dll_d.lib Thanks in advance!! Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4185297 By: fadichakik Hi all, I'm using MSVC on XP and I've a problem with gsl_rng_set. When I use this function, my program compiles and links correctly but fails at execution. Here is my code : CvRNG rng_state = cvRNG(0x); gsl_rng_env_setup(); gsl_rng_set( rng, time(NULL) ); rng = gsl_rng_alloc( gsl_rng_mt19937 ); I already has a problem with gsl_rng_mt19937. When compiling I got unresolved external but solved it using GSL_DLL in the preprocessor definition. I tried also to re-order lines like that: CvRNG rng_state = cvRNG(0x); gsl_rng_env_setup(); rng = gsl_rng_alloc( gsl_rng_mt19937 ); gsl_rng_set( rng, time(NULL) ); but it failed too... Don't worry it's really easy. --- Building GSL 1.8 under Windows StepByStep: Assuming you use Visual C++ 2005 - Studio Vers. 8. // 1) Get the sourcecode - Download the sources: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/downlinks/gsl-src-zip.php - decompress // 2) Configure - Open the config.h.msvc in the VC8 directory - change #define HAVE_DECL_LOG1P 1 entry to #define HAVE_DECL_LOG1P 0 (just to be on the safe side: change all #define HAVE_... 1 to 0) // 3) Make - open the visual studio solution libgsl.sln in the VC8 directory. - Build-Batch Build - Check the configurations you need (DLL/Static/Debug/Release) and build them (if you don't know what you need, check everything EXCEPT the 4 install_libgsl entries) // 4) Install - Open the Property Page of the install_libgsl project (SolutionExplorer-right click-Properties) - Select All Configurations - Go to Configuration Properties - Build Events - Pre-Build Event - Edit the command line (click [...]) - Change the install location in the second line (to your GnuWin32 directory) (If you installed the gsl win32 binaries with standard paramteres that's C:\GnuWin32) - Build the install_libgsl project (SolutionExplorer - right click - build) // 4.1) Fix the directory error If there are no .lib or .dll files in the /lib and /bin directory the copy source directories are wrong: - Go to the Pre-Buil Event command line again (see Step 4) In my version there where whitespaces in all Debug-StaticLib, Release-StaticLib, Debug-DLL, Release-DLL entries If you are finished with step 3) those should be the same as your build output directories - Just change everything that looks like this: ../Debug - Static Lib/.. to ../Debug-StaticLib/.. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4501301 By: jwrayth When I try and use a precompiled version of libpng on Winddows, I get the out access exception detailed on other threads here. The apparent solution is to build the a version myself, and use that. Though I get numerous linker errors indicating : pngw32.def : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol png_libpng_ver .\Win32_DLL_Release/libpng13.lib : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals So I can't use a precompiled version, or build it myself. I get the beta version to build, but then get even more linker errors when I link the .lib to my project. I either need someone to walk me through how to build this damn thing, or provide a precompiled version, if possible. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4513248 By: gnuwin32 Libtiff has been configured with jpeg support, so I don't think this can be the problem. Most likely, it is some bug in libtiff or libjpeg. I'll look into this. I have awk scripts that used to work fine on my XP and Win2kPro machines; but as of Sep 2007, they only partially work on XP now. The code still works fine on Win2kPro. Below is the error message: gawk: a.awk:59: (FILENAME=d.txt FNR=15) fatal error: internal error This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. The odd thing is that, now, the awk code does process several lines of text; but stops when it does a more complicated match on XP. This code still runs fine on Win2kPro. My guess at this point, is that my Win2Kpro machine no longer gets patches pushed out by my company, whereas my XP machine does. It seems to be bombing when it reaches this line of text: PWA A12345-001-B-UNCB UNC 2 E on this line of code: if ( $2 ~ /^[A-Z][0-9]+\-[0-9][0-9][0-9]?\-[A-Z]+\-[A-Z]+/ ) { Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions! -Schube __ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4569354 By: gnuwin32 According to the manual, gzip archives the files given as arguments and, when one of the arguments is a subdirectory, the files in that subdirectory. So, it does not seem possible to gzip the files recursively. You'll have to create a list of files first, e.g. with find from the findutils, and then give these as arguments to gzip. For example: find.exe tree -name *.txt -exec gzip.exe -kvr {} ; __ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4586614 By: kzlg If I understand your question correctly, you want to omit the filename from the output. grep --help shows that the -h (--no-filename) option achieves this. PS. Questions regarding the ordinary (i.e. not related to the MS-Windows port) usage of programs are best asked on the program's mailing list, not on one of the Gnuwin32 forums. Moreover, nothing is so simple as grep --help or as reading the manuals. __ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
