[GOANET] The Tiatr named 'ASRO' meaning shelter ..........cont

2002-11-16 Thread rbarreto

Goa's phone numbers change from Nov 10, 2002. Prefix old number with a 2. New numbers
will be seven-digit 2XX (where XX is the old number).

Cont ...from 1.

The Tiatr was replete with a rich repertoire of
songs , most of which were based on topical issues, ranging from terrorism
to Goa. This varied fare was well received by the audience. The live music
accompaniment - Mr.A D'Mello on Saxophone, Mr. Mario Fernandes on the
Guitar ,Francis Rodrigues on the Bass, Mathew Fernandes on the Keyboards
and Mathias Sequeira on the drums-enlivened and injected a festive
atmosphere into the hall.A song on the legendary Chris Perry by Cassey ,
Anthony and Xavier ( Alphonso Bros.) was much appreciated. Popular artist
and Fantasy Band leader from Goa, Connie M, who was in the UK around
the time won the hearts of the people with his two beautiful songs.
Rev.Fr.Oliver Antao who sang a touching song on priests received a
thunderous ovation. Amongthe others, who entertained the gathering
by their renditions were A.Perry
,
Damaciano and Ida D Souza, Paxiao, Larry Boy , Zeferino , Tony , Anthony
and Felix Gonsalves. The acts on stage were enhanced by brilliant light
effects, managed by Simon Fernandes. The were further supplemented with
song specific scenes and pictures of Goa and other places which were
effectively handled by Jayson Goes. The sound system was provided by
Mr.Gregg Carvalho and the stage managed by Mr.Caetano Braganza.

Earlier , the meet was addressed by Fr.Oliver Antao sfx,Asian Chaplain of
the the Archdioceses of Southwark and Westminster in London. He
congratulated the hosts for putting up the splendid show and complimented
them for their efforts in keep the heritage of Goa , alive in the land of
their domicile . He reminded those present, that only we,the sons and
daughters of Konkani, can give our mother tongue its due and identity, and
called for the whole hearted support in preserving and promoting the unique
art and culture of Goa,amongst the Goan diaspora . In this connection ,
it was decided to rename the nascent organization as 'The Goan Heritage-
UK 'in order to broaden its scope and reflect its aims of fostering the
Goan identity through Art,Dance,Drama,Music and Language.

The director Mr.Lawrence Mascarenhas then profusely
thanked the people for their support and encouragement , and further
promised to stage a few more shows in and around London and UK.,
yielding to the popular demand.
