[Goanet] 18 SEPT: GOACOM NEWS CLIPPINGS

2002-09-18 Thread Aloysius D'Souza

Hullo Goans everywhere specially in Goa,

I refer to Joel D'Souza's "Goacom news clippings for 18th September"

VERY GOOD: I am sure that with NGOs monitoring Government projects, there
should be some real activity (and not just paper entries) and strict
accounting of monies and other resources utilized on these projects.

TIGER CUB: I am really happy that there are still tigers in Goa -- they
are getting extinct in the rest of India and we should do as much as
possible to trace the mother of this cub -- I hope she has not been
killed.

UNDERGROUND GAS / POL PIPELINE: If properly laid and regularly maintained
there should be no SAFETY HAZARD, but Indian experience of POL pipelines
between Bombay and Pune and Manmad has not been all that good -- tampering
and tapping of the pipeline has resulted in bad incidents. Proper policing
of the pipeline particularly the booster stations has to be strictly carried
out.

HOLIDAY ON GANDHI JAYANTHI: We goans are known as LAZY people and
always readyto take a holiday. Maybe we should agitate that on Gandhi
Jayanthi, all Government employees work extra and try to clear the back-log
of files which exist in each and every section of Government. That would be
a much better tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who propagated the hand charkkha to
be used when having time on one's hands -- rather than sit idle. In fact
it is high time that throughout India we cut down on holidays -- what with
the normal Sundays off, second and fourth Saturday off, plus around another
fifty holidays through the year and casual leave, sick leave and privilege
leave -- HOW MANY DAYS ARE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ACTUALLY AT THEIR
PLACES OF WORK EACH YEAR -- leaving aside days actually worked???

KONKANI AWARD: I am very glad something positive is being done to promote
Konkani -- I wish more could be done.

Cheers

Aloysius D'Souza
