[Goanet]Opinion needed......

2004-04-01 Thread Vivian D'Souza
Regarding Gilbert's request for opinions..

I wholeheartedly believe that Catholic religious art
in Goa was strongly influenced by Hinduism. After
all,
the artists/artisans who created this art in our
churches were either Hindus or converted Hindus.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that IMHO. Christ and
his apostles and disciples were born in Asia (Middle
East), but looking at the complexion on
Catholic/Christian art in churches, one would think
that they all came from Northern Europe. The Europeans
probably tailored the images to appeal to the people
that they were trying to convert. For historical
accuracy, renderings of Christ and his disciples
should have darker or olive complexioned skins.

I have seen pictures and statues of Christ and his
disciples with negroid features, both in Africa and in
the predominantly black areas of the United States.
Again, nothing wrong with that IMHO ! Small wonder
that Christ was born at the confluence of the then
major continents.

In Goa, not only is religious art influenced by
Hinduism, but a lot of our religious traditions,
including novenas and processions and roadside
shrines. The priests who converted the ancestors of
Catholics in Goa, were probably very practical people
who realized that in order to appeal to the converts,
they had to incorporate some of their traditional
practices in the new religious observations. Again,
nothing wrong with that IMHO !

IFFI PROJECT REPORT IN 15 DAYS: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured
to provide information to non-governmental organisations, who have sought
detailed project reports and technical documentation to citizens on the
infrastructure development related to the holding of International Film
Festival of India 2004, within the next fortnight. The NGOs had organised a
public meeting on 14 March, 2004, to discuss the IFFI-related development
and had bemoaned the lack of transparency on the government's part in
providing information about the projects. A technical committee and another
panel to gather information about the projects headed by Dr Nandkumar Kamat
and freedom fighter Naguesh Karmali had been formed by the citizens. (GT)

December 9 this year-for holding the IFFI in Panjim, according to Goa

coming Lok Sabha elections. This was stated by Goa Pradesh Congress
Committee (GPCC) president and MLA Luizinho Faleiro and NCP state president
and MLA Dr Wilfred de Souza at a joint press conference at the Congress

BEAUTIFICATION OF MALA LAKE: The Mala lake (in Panaji), which is currently
halfway through its beautification process, promises to be an important
tourist spot once the metamorphosis is complete by the year-end. The
official sources involved in this project, informed that the Rs.5-crore
ambitious project would convert the once stagnant water-body into a lake

the lake will have small paths laid down for walking and a joggers track.
The entire place would display an aesthetically appealing landscape and
would be illuminated, once completed. (NT)

"GOA PLUS" LAUNCHED: Goa Plus cable news channel was inaugurated by BC
Tayadu at a function at the Kala Academy on April 1. The new channel will
telecast half-an-hour news in Konkani and Marathi from 8 to 8.30 pm daily.

the news editor and Darshan Lolayekar is the production manager. (GT)

BIAS-FREE REPORTING A CHALLENGE: Dr Nandkumar Kamat on Thursday said that
one of the biggest challenges for the media industry in a small State like
Goa was to give non-politically aligned news coverage.Goa is the first State
in India to have a cultural policy, he said. In this State, the media
penetration is good due to high literacy rate and spread of print media,
among other factors. In addition, Goa has several other factors: it attracts
a huge number of tourists and is an international brand name. Last year Goa
attracted around 30 lakh tourists, double its population, he said. (H)

by the country's largest telecom operator will be effected from 10 April.

[Goanet]Murder of an innocent boy

2004-04-01 Thread Miguel Braganza
The death of Suresh Durgappa Gollar aka Rocky aka Kalia, an innocent boy of
just ten summers, was not an accident: it was HOT blooded MURDER.

I have seen police in Mapusa intimidating the daily wage labourers near
Ashok Hotel/ State Bank of India. They even pick up some of them for
'questioning' through questionable means to gloss over their lack of
analytical skills in solving crimes. The labour live in fear of the cops.
The time may be appropriate to note down the buckle numbers of the cops and
register the complaints for illegal detention. The death..rather ,the
merciless killing... of Suresh should wake us all up. This is no way for
the police in India's State No.1 to behave.

The news of Rocky's death in Margao made headlines on the front page of the
Gomantak Times, received five colun heading on page 3 of the Navhind
Times[ which has recently begun pretending that it is a "National" level
paper on page 1] and covered almost the entire page 7 of the oHeraldo on 01
April. If you believe it was an accidental death than you are an April Fool.

The Margao Police ,who have registered a case of 'rash and negligent
driving' against the driver of the MMC garbage truck are trying to pull wool
over your eyes. Shri Inder Dev Shukla,IPS, the right honourable
Superintendent of Police[South Goa], has been quoted by the Gomantak
Times[ also on page 1] as saying,:" The policeman was only doing his duty to
detain the child who was found swaying on the road" DUTY of the TRAFFIC
POLICEMAN does not include detention of children for non traffic related
offences. Rocky was not driving a two wheeler or any other vehicle. If he
was indeed sniffing erazex or some other ink, it was not within the
jurisdiction of a 'traffic cop' to detain him.

The other statement attributed to Shri Inder Dev is " The Policeman who was
ordered to catch Suresh also has a good record." RECORD of what? Steeple
chase? Catching children? Illegal and unauthorized detention? "The cop had
only detained the child to take him for medical examination." says Shri
Inder Dev. Such a sympathetic cop. He even loaded the
unwell[sick/intoxicated]child in the open carrier of the pickup truck,
perhaps with the fond hope that the gasolene fumes from the two wheelers
loaded along with him would revive him. Eureka! Revive him they did and he
ran with speed. Perhaps the fumes were of SPEED branded petrol!

It is nice to note that Childline-Goa, Children's Rights-Goa,Jan Ugahi,Law
Graduates Guild,Bailancho Ekvott, Anyay Rahit Zindagi,Positive People and
others have expressed their views on the subject. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. One of
the organizations [CRG, Childline-Goa, ARZ, LGG,etc]should take the lead and
assist the mother of Suresh to register a FIR at the Margao Town Police
station against the said traffic policeman and the four MMC workers on the
tow truck for 1.Kidnapping, 2.coercion,3.illegal restraint,4.illegal
detention ,5.causing grievious hurt and 6 murder or , at least, abettment of
murder. The Law Graduates Guild[LGG] can assist in identifying the proper
sections of the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Juvenile
Justice[Care and Protection of Children]Act,2000 and the Goa Children's
Act,2003 that are applicable in this case.

The Goa Police would do well to ensure that its force follows ,in letter and
spirit, the 8 rights of the child specified in the Goa Children's Act,2003.
One of them [number 7] is quoted here for ready reference:" All
authorities, whether public or private, social welfare institutions or
legislative bodies shall, while undertaking any action concerning children,
take the BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD AS THE PRIMARY CONSIDERATION." The best
interest of the child is not served by loading a child on a open truck or
chasing him through a busy street. Suresh Durgappa Gollar was just ten years
old. He was not a bloody proclaimed offender or hardened criminal. The Goa
State was duty bound to protect his life...not take it in its own hands.

Will some lawyer conversant with Criminal matters kindly take up this case.
I will bear the administrative costs, if needed. The punishment should be
exemplary to serve as a worthy deterrent. We cannot have the Goa Police
turning into an extra-constitutional 'vigilante' organisation executing
'street justice'. What the GSIDC is doing to Goa's skyline in the name of
'development' for IFFI is bad enough already.

[Goanet]moving beyond IT: accountants, doctors, nurses and even catholic priests

2004-04-01 Thread Marlon Menezes
An excerpt:

It’s probably also just the beginning. After all,
these college graduates can do much more than answer
phones. In services, Goizueta professors say that
India has tremendous numbers of skilled professionals.
Consider accounting, for instance. India’s accounting
schools produce about 50,000 new accountants every
year, according to some reports. By comparison, the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
estimates the U.S. turns out about 35,000 new
accountants. And not only are the numbers large, but
the quality is good: Basu says that the exams Indian
accountants take are tougher than the U.S. CPA exam.

The situation is similar in other professions. Indian
nurses and doctors take jobs all over the world. India
produces about 290,000 engineers every year, roughly
the same as the number that graduate in both science
and technology in the U.S. The largely Hindu country
even exports Catholic priests, according to Jagdish
Sheth, a professor of marketing at Goizueta.

[Goanet]RE: World Goa Day - 2004

2004-04-01 Thread George Pinto
Dear Gilbert:

Thank you for your email. Some years ago, Goa Sudhaop founder Filomena Giese had
floated the idea
of organizing Goa Day and our Advisory Board member Rene Barretto has made it a great
success with
his untiring efforts & Goa Sudharop's support. Goa Sudharop provided the funds for
the Goa Day
website and has consistently advertised and promoted the event. This year Filomena
suggested that
we focus on a theme (Jobs for Goans) and the new Goa Sudharop President, Acaria
Almeida,
wholeheartedly accepted the idea by employing 4 Goans at US Bank in the last few
months. Of
course, Goan employment is not tied to a celebration of Goa Day, and should be an
ongoing,
year-round effort. In addition, this year Goa Sudharop will announce some awards to
acknowledge
Goans in various fields.

Thank you for your offer below in the health field, I hope Goans take advantage of the
opportunity.

Best regards,
George

[Goanet]RE: Opinion needed

2004-04-01 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Subject: Opinion needed

We have had a spirited dialogue of Catholicism in Goa over the Goan
cyberspace over the last few months. In my reading of many writings on
Catholicism in Goa, I came across the following. How many Goan Catholics
on the net believe in or buy the characterizations in the following two
paragraphs OR consider them embellishment (a.k.a. Goan bondol)?

"Hindu influence is also evident in Goa's Christian art. Icons of Christ
have the angular and emaciated features of a Himalayan sadhu, and
statues of Mary contain the features of Parvati, Lakshmi or other Hindu
deities. Many angels and cherubs sculpted on altars and pulpits of
Christian shrines resemble apsaras and gopikas. ..."

"In the early 1990s Goa Catholic leaders admitted that fundamentalist
Christian sects like the "Believers" (akin to Liberation theologians),
then on the upswing, were infiltrating the mainstream Catholic community
precisely because the community lacked adequate religious foundation. It
was realized that only a few had actually ever read or studied the
Bible. .."

No disrespect to the look-alikes. I just want to know if the above is a
fair representation of the views of Goans on the net. Regards, Gilbert

[Goanet]Church in a temple ?

2004-04-01 Thread Miguel Braganza
Dear Dr.Gilbert,

Come to Mapusa[Mapsa,Mapuca,Mapxem or Mhapsa] 16 days after Easter in any
year, visit the Church dedicated to St.Jerome in which the Milagris Saibinn
is venerated above all the other deities one can think of and see the
miracle of inter-religious harmony for yourself. What can one bell, a wall,
carvings and edicts show you that will change history? Are you planning to
join the Bajrang Dal or some other revisionist group? This church was once a
temple. I am not even talking about destruction and reconstruction. I am not
talking about civil engineering; I am talking about social and religious
change.

My grandfather is long dead. He was not a historian. He knew what he was
writing. You find the evidence to disprove what he wrote and put it on the
netor write a book and find a publisher for it! The only reason why I
quoted my grandfather was because he could not have been influenced by the
RSS/BJP ideology. He lived and died in the Estada da India Portuguesa and
studied his law in Portugal, not in Mumbai or Dharwar, where he might have
been influenced by hindu revisionists during his student days. He wrote what
he believed to be true as one would find in the good book.nothing
glossed over...as it is. No pro or anti stancejust facts. Escapism is a
current practice as is obscurantism, it seems.

The Truth is the truth, even if nobody accepts it;
A Lie is a lie, even if everyone swears by it.

Viva Goa .

We were informed by Miguel Braganza, some time ago that artificial recharge
was of little or no use to Goa. So what was espoused by Ramasesha is just
poppycock?

Cheers,

Gabe Menezes.

Mapusa KTC bus stand area used as an open-air toilet

Goa has laws in place to deal with all violations but the authorities
seem to lack the will to implement them, for the reasons best known
to them.
A classic example of this is the Kadamba bus stand here. The open
area between the ticketing counter of shuttle service and the Sulabh
toilet is being used by unconcerned people to ease themselves in the
open and though there is law to act against these people no one seems
to be bothered.
It is not that there are no public toilets. The KTC bus stand has atleast
such facilities, all of which are pay toilets, but people it appears don't
want to pay money to use these toilets and prefer to ease themselves
in full public view unmindful of the hazard and inconvenience they were
causing to the general public.
Those people who want to travel by the shuttle service, especially those
who have to wait till the arrival of the bus, have to bear with the stinking
smell that emanates from the open gutter along the wall on the market
side and also have to bear the foul smell of the faeces as well as the urine.
A few people this reporter spoke to at the passenger shed at shuttle
service centre this afternoon told that they have been frequently using
the service and have to bear with the stinking smell. They, however, said
that so far they have never approached any higher authority either of the
KTC or the Mapusa municipal council for seeking redressal of the problem.
They further said that it is not necessary that the authorities concerned
should act only if there were complaints against any violation, etc and
that it was the duty of the KTC to provide hygienic surroundings at least
in its premises. Some others said that they preferred to travel by other
buses if they have to wait for the arrival of KTC bus, in order to escape
from the foul smell.
The open gutter is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a potential
health hazard, said a young lady. The passengers waiting for KTC bus
also said that fruit, paan, and those selling grams, ground nuts etc near
the ticketing booth were also creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic,
especially during the peak hours.
Besides, the vendors sitting at the gate were also causing hurdles,
said the people waiting for the bus. "One has to be careful not to trample
upon the squatting vendors," said another male passenger. "How can the
authorities allow these people to sit here," he asked further. Around the
same time this reporter saw a lady quarrelling with a vendor selling grams
and ground nuts.
When contacted, a KTC official at the bus stand said that they have tried
all methods to keep the area clean bust have failed. He blamed the
municipality for not doing enough to keep the area clean. He also asked
this reporter to take the matter with his higher ups.
The Chief Officer of the Mapusa Municipal Council, Mr Deepak Bandekar,
told this paper that the civic body was responsible for maintenance of the
gutter only and that he has received complaints about foul smell emanating
from it. With regards to cleanliness in the bus stand premises he said that
it was the duty of the KTC.
He also said that the civic body has been deputing its personnel to drive
away the people who ease themselves but it cannot spare its employees
everyday. He also said that the sub-divisional magistrate of North Goa
(Bardez) was the competent authority to take action against the people
easing themselves on public property. The SDM was not available for
comment.

Modern harvesting, recharge can save Goa's water
--
The scientific management of water is need of the hour in the face
of rising exploitation and pollution of ground water resources in the
country, echoed scientists at one day training programme on
'Ground Water Management' held on Monday at Goa Science
Centre in Miramar.
The training Programme was organised by Central Ground water Board
in association with Government of Goa. The scientists maintained that
in the modern days rain water harvesting and artificial recharge is how
we can salvage depleting water resources.Speaking on 'Amenability
and techniques of artificial Recharge and rain harvesting, C S Ramasesha
maintained that there is imperative need to launch awareness programme
for ground water recharge and water harvesting due to over-exploitation
of water resources
Ramasesha recommended artificial recharge to ground water to enhance
sustainable yield in areas where over exploitation has depleted the aquifers.
Artificial recharge could be adopted for conservation and storage of excess
surface water for future requirements and to improve the quality of existing
ground water through dilution. Any man-made scheme or facility that adds
water to an aquifer may be considered to be an artificial recharge system.
Basic advantages of artificial recharging is that it has beneficial
influence on
ground water regime, provides cost effective subsurface conveyance system
and most importantly it is eco-friendly, observed Ramasesha. Dry and
abandoned dug wells could be used as recharge structures by diverting the
surface run-off into them, suggested Ramasesha.

Arguing in favour of rain water harvesting Ramasesha said surface water is
inadequate to meet our demand and hence we have to depend on ground
water. Also due to rapid urbanisation, infiltration of rain water into the sub-
soil has decreased drastically and recharging of ground water has diminished.
Moreover, over-exploitation of ground water resources has resulted in decline
in water levels in most part of the country. For urban India roof top water
harvesting is most suitable, he said. Other scientist and hydrologist who
presented their views M C Reddy, V Saivasan, K Keerthiseelan,
K M Vishwanath, K R Sooryanarayan and Dr T R Prakash.
Earlier in the morning S K Sharma, Member of Central Ground Water
Board and chief guest inaugurated the training programme in the presence
of Venkatarathnam, Secretary Water Resources, Forest, Town and Country

Ola' Constantino, as you must know, any medicine doctor that wants to
practice in a EU country will require to be registered with the General
Medical Council of that country (Ordem dos Medicos in Portugal).

They cannot work in that country until they are registered with that
country's Medical Council. Example: Suppose a British doctor moves to
Portugal. He will not be allowed to practice medicine in Portugal until
he is properly registered with Ordem dos Medicos (Portuguese Medical
Council).
Agree?

The requirements for registration in any medical council will vary from
country to country.

The current EU legislation is very clear in the sense that any EU
graduate will be allowed to practice anywhere in the EU, so registration
is straightforward. However, Goan graduated doctors that practice in
Portugal are not EU graduates and, therefore, the current EU legislation
does not apply to them. It will depend from country to country if they
will be exempted of further equivalence exams or not.

I do not know what is the current situation in the UK, but few years
back, a Goan graduated doctor who was previously practicing in Portugal
would have to answer the normal equivalence exams in the UK if he/she
wanted to practice in the UK (regardless of the fact he/she was already
legally practicing in Portugal). I am not sure if that is now more
relaxed, but the important fact is that the EC law recognises EC
degrees. So, if you have a EC degree, your degree is indeed recognised
everywhere in the EC. But if not, then it depends on each country's
interpretation of the law of free circulation of money, persons and
goods ... (the legislation is not so clear about that case).

Best wishes,
Paulo.

[Goanet]RE: Inter-faith interaction

2004-04-01 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Inter-faith interaction

Yesterday was DOCTOR'S DAY, which is a day dedicated across the USA for
physicians. This is an occasion for the community, patients and
hospitals to say thank you and appreciate the work and contribution of
their physicians.

St. Elizabeth Hospital (a Catholic hospital) had a religious service for
all their physicians and their families and to ask God's blessing on
their work in healing the sick of all faiths and communities in our
city.

The religious service in the Catholic chapel at the hospital in upstate
NY was attended by and included prayers by Hindus, Muslims (originally
from India, Pakistan and Middle East), Jews, Protestants and Catholics.
It was a great inter-faith service and no one was forced to attend.
Among the program, an Indian physician Dr. Amita Butala sang 'Ai Malik
Tere Bunda Hum' and Dr. Hamid Obeid sang the prayer of St. Francis.

And I said, what a different atmosphere from Goanet. :=))

India seal historic test win in Pakistan
Thu 01 April, 2004 08:18 AM

By Kunal Pradhan
MULTAN, Pakistan (Reuters) - India have sealed their first test win on
Pakistani soil, beating the hosts by an innings and 52 runs.
Pakistan, 207 for nine overnight, were bowled out for 216 after facing just
12 balls on the fifth morning of the first test as India took a 1-0 lead in
the three-match series.
The Indians had lost five and drawn 15 of their previous 20 tests in
Pakistan.
Pakistan's Yousuf Youhana struck a fighting 112 on Thursday, his 11th test
century, but left-arm paceman Irfan Pathan had him mis-hit a pull shot to
Rahul Dravid at mid-wicket to end the match.
Anil Kumble was the best bowler of India's second innings, grabbing six
wickets for 72, but Pathan's career-best four for 100 in the first had been
instrumental in allowing the tourists to enforce the follow-on.
India had amassed 675 for five when they batted, with Virender Sehwag
scoring a record 309 and Sachin Tendulkar 194 not out.
"It's fantastic to lead the side that won our first ever test in Pakistan,"
said Dravid, India's stand-in captain.
"Sehwag batted brilliantly, he's done a great job for us, and the bowlers
bowled with a lot of heart and character on a wicket that didn't offer them
very much."
It was only India's second innings victory over Pakistan. The first was the
inaugural test between the two teams in New Delhi in 1952.
The test defeat was Pakistan's first at home since March 2002, when they
were beaten by Sri Lanka at Lahore in the final of the Asian Test
Championship.
"We've got our feet firmly on the ground," Dravid said. The series is not
over. Pakistan is a good side and they'll come back hard at us."
India's regular captain Saurav Ganguly missed the test due to a back injury
sustained while fielding in the final one-day international, which India won
by 40 runs to clinch the series 3-2.
He is also out of the second test in Lahore, which starts on April 5.
India are playing their first full series in Pakistan in over 14 years after
a recent thaw in relations between the two south Asian neighbours, who have
fought three wars since independence from Britain in 1947.
In 2000, the Indian government banned all home and away cricket against
Pakistan and the current series is seen as a symbol of improving relations
between the countries.

Cheers,

Gabe

[Goanet]Church built on destroyed temple?

2004-04-01 Thread Sachin Phadte
Regarding the claim for recovery of destroyed temple sites, Tariq says: "I
sent you two links that clearly elaborated the fact that RSS sympathizers
did make such claims."

At the time I did say that these relate to the time when the Pope visited
India in 1999. The thread started with an allegation that TODAY the BJP is
asking for the return of the temple sites. And it is this allegation which
Fredrick thinks was made in a tongue-in-cheek mode. The one who made the
allegation has not commented on it.

[Goanet]British police pursue Canada "terror" link - Thu 01 April, 2004 11:22 AM

2004-04-01 Thread Gabe Menezes
Reuters News ArticleThe Govt. and opposition in the U.K.

British police pursue Canada "terror" link
Thu 01 April, 2004 11:22 AM

By Michael Holden
LONDON (Reuters) - Police say they are working with Canadian authorities
after a software developer was charged in Ottawa with aiding a "terrorist
group" in Britain and Canada.
Mohammed Momin Khawaja, a 29-year-old Canadian with Pakistani parents, was
arrested at work on Monday by Canadian police who accuse him of "knowingly
facilitating a terrorist activity" in Ottawa and London.
Details of his arrest and charge came as British police were given three
more days to quiz eight men arrested during London and southeast England in
dawn raids on Tuesday in Britain's biggest anti-terror operation since the
September 11 2001 attacks.
Both Canadian police and British anti-terror officers were tight-lipped
about whether Khawaja's arrest was directly linked to the London swoop in
which officers found half a tonne of ammonium nitrate fertiliser -- prime
bomb-making material.
"We are aware of the developments in Canada and are liaising with the
Canadian authorities," a UK police spokeswoman said.
She declined to comment on whether British officers had flown to Canada to
work with police there.
Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler said on Wednesday he had no details
about the investigation.
The arrest of Khawaja, a computer expert, fuelled newspaper speculation that
the UK suspects had been using e-mails to communicate with al Qaeda
"mentors" abroad.
It also followed Wednesday's seizure of computer equipment from an Internet
cafe in Crawley, Sussex, where three of the arrested Britons lived.
The eight, who police sources say are Muslims of Pakistani origin, were
arrested on suspicion of preparing to carry out acts of terrorism and are
being questioned at a top-security London police station.
They can be held until late on Saturday, although under UK anti-terror laws
police can apply for further extensions.
Their arrest has stoked fears that disaffected young Britons may be as much
a threat as foreign militants.
British Muslim leaders have sent a letter to every imam in the country's
1,000 or so mosques, urging them to help police in the fight against terror.
However radical group leaders said the country's two million Muslims should
ignore the plea.
"Muslims have a unique way of life. Co-operating with the authorities
against any other Muslims, that is an act of apostasy in Islam," Sheikh Omar
Bakri Muhammad, head of the radical Islamic group al-Muhajiroun, told BBC
radio on Thursday.
"Having said that, Muslims in Britain have the right to defend themselves,
but without the use of violence. They can gather together, speak with the
imams."
Some young British Muslims appeared to share his views.
"Why should we help the police," one 19-year-old in Derby, told the BBC,
adding he felt the authorities were targeting innocent Muslims.
"Tony Blair and (U.S. President) George Bush are the real terrorists in our
opinion."

[Goanet]Portugal: how to get studies accepted by major

2004-04-01 Thread Constantino Xavier
Olá Paulo!

you're right in what you say, but with "no major obstacles" I meant there
are of course obstacles to recognition WITHIN the EU but in a lesser degree
than for those coming from an EXTRA-EU country and want their studies to be
recognized in a EU-country. Indeed, you always need to do a exam here in
Portugal to get your Indian studies recognized, and I think you also need to
do a provisional internship (in one of the four specialities), besided other
paperwork and recommendation letters etc.

But on the other side, if you're a practicing Portuguese doctor, and you
want to move to another EU-country, things are easier, as I know several
doctors in this case who are now practicing in Italy, Spain or France and
did not have to pass the same requeirements in the new country. But this may
depend from country to country, I presume.

So the question arises: Mr. X being a Goan doctor, who has studied Medicine
in India, and currently practicing in Portugal (having passed the
recognition criteria etc.), will he:
a) have to abey by the same process/rules to practice in France (other EU
country) as a Goan who is applying directly from Goa?
b) have an easier process of acceptance/recognition/allowance to practice,
due to his previous recognition in Portugal or another EU-country?

Please clarify.

Coming back to the point, and knowing there are many young Goans who are
trying to get their Medicine studies recognized here, do visit the ORDEM DOS
MEDICOS website, something similar to a Medical Council (?):
www.ordemdosmedicos.pt They have most of the legslation regarding
recognition of studies on-line.

[Goanet]magnetically levitated church built over holographic temple

2004-04-01 Thread Marlon Menezes
Sachin,

Unfortunately there will be continue to be people from
all sides who hold extreme views. There will of course
continue to be hindu fundamentalists who will claim
that beneath every church or mosque lies the remains
of a temple. Conversely, there are others who will
deny the possibility that churches now lie over (or
next to!) temples even when evidence is presented to
them. But, then hey, there are still some who deny
that the holocaust ever happened keep asking for "real
proof"!

This so called "issue" of whether churches now exist
over temples is really not much of an issue with the
people of Goa. The moderate christian community in Goa
does recognize that various undesirable events took
place in the past. Likewise the moderate hindu
majority does not (and never did) hold the past
against today's christian minority. Acknowledging
facts does not consitute christian bashing by the
hindus or acceptance of collective guilt by the
christians. As for the extremists on both sides; they
can go to hell! :)

Was the formation of this party solely for wiping out
corruption? or is it following a manifesto?(just
curious) Otherwise a good move and time for all the
